Dweezil you probably don't remember me, however your personalized guitar lesson in the library near Pittsburgh and the subsequent performance of "Apostrophe" in the amphitheater changed my approach to guitar. Not 6 strings, but 3 groups of 2! Thank you!
@@ShellSmashedI’ve heard him talk of it ….apparently if you’re at an airport and you walk in 3 groups of 2 you won’t get bothered by security very much…even if your there by yourself. If you can find 5 others who will board the plane with you. I’ve often wondered if 3 groups of 2 would work (probably not because you’d be taking up to much room compared to only 2 across ) would definitely be interesting to try tho
Yes, that happened to me too. It's easy to see there is alot of love for Ed that Dweezil feels for that wonderful gesture. Dweezil is a such a humble and excellent human being, love hearing his stories about EVH.
Dweezil is such an excellent musician and he's sitting on top of some pretty big shoulders. Super humble guy in that he's carrying the responsibility of his dad's legacy and even EVH's legacy as well.
Love Dweezil. Love everything about him. Great human being. And the fact that he honors his dad, and ed and still stays turned to who he is. I've got to see him one day. All the best that life has to offer ❤
That must have been just INCREDIBLE. Surreal. Just imagine being on the scene when Edward Van Halen comes in to see Frank Zappa & his Son & then Steve Vai comes along for the party. & you've got this triumvirate of Talent right in front of your ears & eyes that changed rock guitar forever. It was this meeting that inspired Edward to BUILD 5150 . Because Ed realized that by Frank having his own studio he had this independence from producers & record companies when being creative.... Ed was a kind hearted guy... Billy Sheehan talks about this in a recent video....... In Alex's recent book he talked about his little brother's sensitivity...Sensitive people like Ed have a lot of empathy. & that's why he reached out to Dweezil when he heard that he had just lost his Father. Remember , at that time in the 1990s Edward had just become a Father himself & he could understand the hell poor Dweezil was going through . (Paul)
I never knew of any association between Ed & the Zappas. the stories told by Dweezil since Edward’s passing have blown my mind. I do know & have always felt that Van Halen’s ‘1984’ is a badass album recorded in my lifetime, alongside ‘Women & Children First’ and every live thing that exists from VH, ever. it’s comforting to see Dweezil doing so well & playing even better
He mentioned it a few times in guitar magazine interviews . Edward mentioned Frank's house was a mess with recording consoles and wires were all over the place . That's his recording studio .
Still the most heart warming story in guitar history. Dweezil is also up there with the greats in his own right, which probably was unavoidable due to his upbringing.
I had the pleasure of seeing VH, many times, and Zappa. 2 different musical experiences, but both AWESOME! Love Dweezil's stories like this and many more artistes he had met.
Dweezil thanks for this story telling your story about my guitar idol also, man to have him hunch over you and teach you how to play his song what a surreal moment that must have been and then he becomes your friend I can’t imagine how awesome that must have felt.
I think dweezil and i are the same age and started playing guitar same age ...dweezils album with the song that his sister sings i think its "lets talk about it " blew me away ! His composition skills rythym playing and a tasty well thought out solo..he was way ahead of me in those terms ...i later in my early 20s matured in those areas of my playing..Dweezil definitely inspired me !
Dweezil is a fantastic human being!!! What a glorious moment that was, both on the staircase, and at the soundcheck!!! And the phone call, made me cry.
I've seen a hundred players tackle Eruption but nobody does it as well as Dweez. He just has that extra sauce, having a mentor in Eddie must have helped and being Frank's boy.... Probably got some pointers from that Steve Vai fella that used to cut the grass
I love how EVH was super supportive of young fans being inspired by his work while simultaneously having zero patience for peers that tried to ride his wave. He wasn't a snob either, he just respected guitarists that followed their own path.
Eddie absolutely adored Wolf, so I believe every single word Dweezil says speaking about his experience with Eddie when he was a youngin' and those teary eyes show that Ed was almost like an Uncle to Dweezil. Eddie was a pure soul. There will never be another guitar player like him, we need to cherish the ones we have, which is exactly what Gibson does for their players.
I have watched this episode of the collection more than anything else on Gibson TV! Dweezle is on tour right now so find the closest show and get the vip tickets and see some legendary Gibson guitars up close!
The Dwee still has feelings after all these years alive. Lucky bastard. I cried when my mother died and even though I held my father's hand the night he died, I didn't cry. 😐
The First Person that called you Brother! 🙏😥 Man that's Deep! You Lucky Boy 🤦🤣🤣 You're Dad was a Guitar Genius so Did Eddie 🙏 And you Are what you are just like you're Dad and Eddie a Gran Maestro on Electric Guitar ✌️🎸
Met Dweezil at a show in Detroit, he came out on stage for a sound ck, so I walked to the front row and he walked over we shook hands and talked about Frank. He told me his guitar picks were custom made.
Dweezil also has one of Jimi Hendrix's guitars. It was a gift to him, I think from his Dad. Dweezil is such a down to Earth, great guy and a masterful musician.
True that! I saw Dweezil Zappa in concert on his "Confessions" tour in '91 in a club in Fresno, CA. Still one of my all time favorites concerts EVER. His band played a medley called "70 Hits From The 70s In 7 minutes" flawlessly. I wish he would have recorded for an album.
I would feel comfortable chatting with dz he seems very down to earth as fz sxared me made me feel like i shouldn't be allowed to be on this earth i hopr dz was confident around his fatheritd always a pleasure to hear dz ralk😊
Back in about 1988, I had lessons with a guy who had a purple Kramer guitar - but it was purple sparkle. The store goes, he had one of the signature guitars, it was one of the first 30 out of the factory that Eddie himself had played before releasing to the public - apparently he played all 30 before they left. I've never seen one since or have any idea what happened to that guitar my teacher had.
Great story! I would have left the original paint though. Well, maybe not...I did do random things to make them my own too when I was young w some of my guitars and gear. Amazing to be blessed with Eddie at a young age.
Dweezil you probably don't remember me, however your personalized guitar lesson in the library near Pittsburgh and the subsequent performance of "Apostrophe" in the amphitheater changed my approach to guitar. Not 6 strings, but 3 groups of 2! Thank you!
This is Gibson's channel, not Dweezil's! Even if it was his channel, I doubt that he would read the comments.
@@Krullmatic You should change your name to buzzkill
@Krullmatic shut up Karen!
What did he say? Can u elaborate on the 3 groups of 2 thing? Would love to know

It hit me when Dweezil got emotional talking about Ed calling him when his father passed. 😢
Yes, that happened to me too. It's easy to see there is alot of love for Ed that Dweezil feels for that wonderful gesture. Dweezil is a such a humble and excellent human being, love hearing his stories about EVH.
Dweezil seems like he's a straight up good dude🤘
Agree!
Those tears came from a broken heart. Eddie was a beautiful soul always reaching out to People. RIP EVH👑
Dweezil is such an excellent musician and he's sitting on top of some pretty big shoulders. Super humble guy in that he's carrying the responsibility of his dad's legacy and even EVH's legacy as well.
Dweezil is a legit player. he has done great work for his father's legacy.
The moment he gets emotional I really felt it.
Me too. -Lee
Oh man, Dweezil getting teary eyed telling this story.
I can tell Dweezil's parents raised him right. He has a heart, and am sure he always will wear it on his sleeve.
Everyone likes Dweezil and he's an incredible player.
Ahmet does now too?
@@DougsBeershaha. Good one
Interviews like this are priceless to me, at 59, and a musician, Van Halen was such a big deal to me, and still is. ❤❤❤❤❤
Man, I really like Dweezil's personality. He's a very down-to-earth and passionate dude.
He's got a great publicist...
I’ve heard Dweezil tell this story so many times but I still love hearing it. It’s like a bedtime story
Me too, Peter ... I enjoy it every time.
Love Dweezil. Love everything about him. Great human being. And the fact that he honors his dad, and ed and still stays turned to who he is. I've got to see him one day. All the best that life has to offer ❤

What a cool story, Eddie was the greatest
I'm 64 years young , i was rocking your dad,and Van Halen from 73 to present day! Love your story's, John from Rock City, currently South Chicago!!!!
It doesn't matter how many times I hear this story, I love it every time
Beautiful story.
Dweezil is a straight up legend.
Just like his pops, not as big but still pretty close up there.
I had the pleasure of seeing VH, many times, and Zappa. 2 different musical experiences, but both AWESOME! Love Dweezil's stories like this and many more artistes he had met.
I still love the solo Dweezil played on 'Diva Fever' on the second Spinal Tap album 'Break like the wind'. It truly went to 11
I love Dweezil ❤
I dunno. Dweezil kinda "is" the guy. I really dig him. Thx for this little video gem!
Don't say it often, but that's a beautiful guitar and story.

Much Love for Dweezil, Thank you Mark and Gibson. What a great insight.
I love how EVH was super supportive of young fans being inspired by his work while simultaneously having zero patience for peers that tried to ride his wave.
He wasn't a snob either, he just respected guitarists that followed their own path.
such an awesome shape
I worked at vets memorial in cbus, as a parking lot attendant. I knew how to sneak into concerts. Me and a friend snuck into a Zappa show ! Badass 👍
What a story! Dweezil seems to be such a nice guy.
Great interview. Dweezil is such a down to earth super nice guy. :)
What a cool and humble dude.
Dweezil is a monster on guitar!
Birds of a feather flock together. That's the flock of really fun guitar players. The universe is amazing that way.

I love hearing Dweezil's "Ed stories." ❤
Dweezil is the man. Really authentic and humble guy.
Damn! Those are the craziest stories Dweezil! You're the best!
Dweezil is a righteous dude.
literally the sickest guitar I have ever seen. Imagine if Dime had this
That was a great little video…thanks y’all. 😊
Listening to these stories I really admire these guys, absolute legends. R.I.P King Ed

No WAY I love hearing more about this story. I guess I didn’t know it was a Kramer that’s awesome
Saw Dweezil live quite a few times and I gotta tell ya, I always left inspired to play music. And I'm a drummer not a guitarist!
Saw Dweezil with an absolutely fantastic young band playing Zappa in Luxembourg on his dad's SG.
Dweezil sure turned out to be an awesome dude.
Absolutely freakin awesome, what an amazing story ❤

Man painting that guitar was insane. But i understand he was young at the time
Born right into it must be so cool for a dream career....
Dweezil also has one of Jimi Hendrix's guitars. It was a gift to him, I think from his Dad. Dweezil is such a down to Earth, great guy and a masterful musician.
I used to listen to his music in 1990. It must have been incredibly difficult trying to find a unique musical voice living in those giant shadows.
What a nice story and a great player, thank you Dweezil!
An excellent story…and a damn fine guitar player, too.
