In Canada, when you see stacked rocks like that they're called Inukshuk's (created by our Native Inuit groups). They are a marker to represent that you're going the right way, and the way that you are travelling/hiking is safe!
Dream Vacation: 1. Great food 2. Rich culture and history...I love a good tour and story. 3. Beautiful views 4. A spot of adventure 5. I must feel/be relatively safe.
I've seen rock stacks like that a lot when I've travelled, but never that many laid out like that. Corsica looks so beautiful and has such diverse scenery!
This place looks amazing. Thank you for sharing this. Is it easy to get to if you don’t live in France? What are some tips for making plans to see this amazing place. Many thanks.
Thanks for taking us along on your vacation. I've already taken one of my dream vacations (Greece), but I have many more. I'm gonna have to add Corsica to the list now!
Beignets are definitely a Corsican specialty. And actually, traditional Corsican food isn’t all that seafood focused. They traditionally eat a lot of charcuterie, pork, veal, beef, chestnuts (example: chestnut polenta), clementines, myrtle berries, etc. This is because most of the villages in Corsica are tucked away in the mountains for historical reasons-to avoid the Barbary pirates and other invaders-so not much access to the sea. You can get some delicious seafood there though. In December you can get freshly caught sea urchins with a glass of rosé. Amazing.
Tiff: *shows stacked rocks* Me: 👀 OH NAH *NY accent* 😂😂 Also can we need a moment of appreciation. Sis gave us Brown skin, Bawdy, Beach and Beignets 👏🏾 lol
👉🏼Cairn👈🏼 “Rock cairns are human-made stacks, mounds or piles of rocks. They take different forms, and have been built by cultures around the world for many different purposes. Cairns may serve as monuments, burial sites, navigational aids (by land or sea), or ceremonial grounds, among other uses.” I’ve seen some very intricate ones on Mackinac Island, Michigan and we are on Mount Desert Island, Maine now and they are on the rocky beaches and forest trails here too.😊
Eat Cheaply Originally rocks are stacked to mark out the path when it's hard to notice where is the path. Usually people that went past those "cairns" (that's the term for it) are supposed to add a rock so that it never disappears. But I think that with the time it has just become a fun thing to do for kids like when they go past cairns they find it cool and so want to make their owns (at least that's how it was when I was a kid walking in the Alps, Pyrénées or Corsica). But some cairns still maintain their primary function of marking out the path.
I am also interested in the response to this question. Corsicans have a reputation for being racist - this is what I have been told by white French people from other parts of France.
In Corsica I personally didn't experience any racism (we were probably 2 of the 7 black people that we saw on the trip). I'm still making my way to other towns in France but so far so good on my end. I can't speak for everyone though!

Here in Brittany, I often see a bunch of stacked stones and it is called "cairns". But I see them on the beach and not in forests.
Interesting!

Those rocks piled on top of esch other really gave me Blair Witch Project vibes...😅 who took the time to do that? But mostly why??
No girl, I feel you on those rocks. What in the Blair Witch Project was that about???
So crazy right!! Someone mentioned that it was to celebrate lost loved ones

Nice #PriyankaTimesFiles from london
Those stacked rocks are giving me ‘Blair Witch’ vibes. 😬
Out of interest going to the smaller towns do you ever experience any racism? Always a tad bit nervous adventuring to smaller European towns
Obviously it won’t stop me, but more of emotionally preparing myself
I actually wonder about this too.
