The new system has absolutely no quality control and takes away from the ideology of bboying: expressing oneself through ones own interpretation of the music. Here's an example - If Gravity let Alcolil win the first round purposefully by lets say doing a very simple set vs. wasting his good set, he would have won the second and third round easily if he used his 2 power sets. Hence, the bboys are battling the system and not each other. Also, showing the school before the end of the battle further ensues this problem. If they were doing a round for round system, they might as well make it a cumulative point system which they previously used at R16 (which was not quite as bad, but worked better and met the regulation requirements to register bboying as a type of dance - all dances require a formal judging system).
Bboys have been using the strategy of sacrificing a round but beasting the rest of the battle for a long time. The system has nothing to do with that. But I do agree on the fact that it changes the dynamic of battling by showing the scores.
csannihilation ii I think the issue is that when they used to sacrifice rounds, they would do short but snappy rounds. With this system, there would be no penalty to walking out, doing 1 round of 6-step, and calling it a set since the margin that you win a round by does not matter. Thankfully, I do not think anybody has abused it to that point so far. It seems like all the bboys are legitimately trying to win every round, but the opportunity for abuse does exist.
qprtx That's true but I think the judges would take that into consideration and carry over that decision to the next round. Otherwise there wouldn't be a battle. But good point
all of a sudden all these events some weird point/round robin.....this,undisputed,red bull, etc..they need to just keep it how bboying should be in every event. judges juding at the end of each battle. what u said was a prime example. corruption already breakin its way thru.
