38 friggin miles in one day!?!? Nuts. Absolutely nuts. I think I’d like to do it in 8-10 miles a day just to truly enjoy all the lakes etc and take my time. I’d hate TJ rush or be miserable due to exhaustion!
I only had 5 days to take off work haha, and I generally like to do things pretty aggressively. Thanks for watching! I have a lot of stuff on my channel
Great hike, sorry that you were sick and that impacted you. As hard as you were hiking, and it was hard, think about Sabbe averaging 62 miles a day for the whole PCT. That's some crazy stuff. It's beautiful for sure.
yeah no doubt! those guys are animals. i want to go back some summer and redo it quicker and more efficiently, I really had no idea what I was doing with gear etc
That's an insane pace, but you captured it well, footage & descriptions takes me right back to the trail, l went the other way, well done, great watch!
Likely pulmonary edema was your lung problem, yeah? It can hit hard at those high elevations and you were moving fast with not a lot of time to acclimate. Thanks for sharing this!
haha no i didn't have an edema that would've been more serious. I hike at 14k ft all the time straight from sea level with no issues. and I did have several days at 8k ft before I started. Just got sick from the cool air!
@@ColbyPark-dj6zx awesome, enjoy yourself! Hopefully you are taking some more time than me so you can relax at lakes and not be on your feet all day every day!
Wow wow wow What a trip to experience! You have strong endurance, bronchitis is not easy to breathe with in those dusty and rocky terrain, then more, that is impressive...are you even human? 🤔
Was awestruck while watching your video at the pace you maintained! Is that aggressive hiking something you do all the time or were you under some time restraint to finish the trail so quickly? Like to know your motivation. And would have also liked to have seen who you were, before doing the hike so I could put a face to your adventure. (and age if you don't mind) Your body was definitely telling you something, via your cough so that's one of the questions I have of hiking at your pace. Do you have time to "stop and smell the roses" type of thingy? Or are you in this as much for the physical challenges as the venue? Thanks for sharing. Now, I'm going to bed and rest after your video! ;-)
Thanks for the comment! I tend to always hike fast pace and do long aggressive hikes (see my other videos haha). I just signed up for my first trail ultra actually. I only had 5 days to take off work so wanted to do the JMT in just a week. If I wouldn't have gotten sick I think I could've done it a bit faster. I'm 40 but keep myself in very good shape and have a background in distance running.
Ah, then the endurance aspect explains a lot of it. What a great way to stay in shape and include this type of venue to help maintain. Thanks for your reply.@@HikingEngineer
haha I finished at about 1:30 on a Sunday, we drove 8 hours home to the Phoenix area, and I called out sick Monday. Never went to the doctor, although that cough persisted for about 3-4 weeks. I still had it 3 weeks later in my "Other side of horseshoe bend" video
mosquitos weren't bad at all, i didn't even carry bug spray. I tried to go light -- didn't even have a tent! 4 lbs empty pack, 1 lb pad, 1 lb sleeping bag, bear can + food obviously varied and went down as I ate over the week, plus jackets and miscellaneous first aid -- probably looking at 25 lbs which dropped to 15 by the end -- not counting water obviously

That whole area is some of the most beautiful country in the world. Outstanding.
yes high sierra country is gorgeous!
That's a bucket list trail to do, for sure. Nice job
i'm gonna go back to do it again maybe next summer!

Appreciate you sharing your adventure. Really enjoyed the watch!
🤜🏼💥🤛🏼
thanks! It was a tough one!
Impressive - thanks for documenting! Got to say this seems like more than a "hike". 🙂
it's just a thru hike, still a hike though! nothing but easy class 1/2 walking
You are in incredible shape to be able to push such a mileage!
I try! I'm doing my first official trail ultra coming up here in January (Bandera 100k)
That's an insane pace, but you captured it well, footage & descriptions takes me right back to the trail, l went the other way, well done, great watch!
Thanks! I'll probably go back and do it again in a couple years. I feel like i didn't know what I was doing as I mainly just day hike
Great trip vid. Thanks
I did the JMT in 2012 SOBO, but took my time. I remember not being able to figure out where Island Pass was either, lol,

@@Backcountryhiker I just did R2R2R yesterday, posting the video soon here in a couple hours (although I have several grand canyon videos already up!)
excellent video
thanks
That's a crazy amount of daily miles. You're blessed with incredible physiology. Looks like it was 2022???
2021, first week of August. my background is as a distance runner and soccer player
It's baffling to me to think if I stayed at a camp, you'd be 38 miles away by the end of that day. 🤣
haha I hit it hard that first solo day
Yeah bro.. You’re a freaking animal .. 38 miles in one day? 😮
¡No mamés güey!
Did you go to the doctor after this trip or did you rest for a few days before you went bavk to work?

Thank You..The video brought back memories of my slower trip along the JMT.
@@HikingEngineeroh come on …. Called in sick, you lightweight … LOL! Of course you absolutely crushed the miles! Great job. What month, what year?

how many pounds was your pack? and how were the mosquitos

nice
That’s light. Most people are packing 35-45 lbs for the JMT. I will do this one day. Hopefully I have the strength by then.
Nice video, no wonder you feel like crap. Way too many miles a day. 😁
haha i don't think it was the miles, I think it was the altitude and temperature swings (mainly the cold at night)
