skz won kingdom, became million sellers, earned the most wins they ever have in their entire career, won a daesang & released Christmas eveL - THE viral Christmas song on tiktok of 2021. they've had a fantastic year, earning friendships with ryan reynolds and high jackman was just the icing on the cake. this was their year, and I promise you they're only going to get much bigger and better this 2022, watch out for stray kids!

The best part of my 2021 is that many of my favs had great and successful comebacks *(NCT - NCT Dream - NCT 127 - Aespa - EXO solos)* .. There were many other good comebacks and groups too

I didn't actually listen to that many girl groups this year so I was mostly lost. Dreamcatcher was a big one for me though that I think was overlooked. There's also SHINee's Atlantis repackage, Taemin and Key's solo mini albums, ATEEZ's comeback, Astro's 2 combacks, Seventeen, TXT, Enhypen, EXO and all the solos that came out from them like DO's and Kai's...

They also released two million-seller albums, not to mention them doing a win encore on Zoom because they were in quarantine all throughout the promo which kind of summarise how this year was like for all of us

i think 2021 will be remembered for the shift from 3rd gen to 4th gen. So many 4th gen groups became incredibly popular. Stray Kids becoming the 1st 4th gen group to reach 1M sales with one album and ENHYPEN becoming the 2nd (and fastest). And also the huge numbers of ATEEZ, The Boys and Aespa with Aespa's EP becoming the best selling female debut album if i'm not mistaking.

I think the one thing I’ll take from this year is how freaking talented all the new rookie groups are nowadays, the fact that mainly 2000s kids like me are more consistently the main lineups in groups now is just insane bcus of the amount of talent they have already. 2021 has been huge year for aespa imagine the only 4th gen group to have RAK, CAK and PAK. most awarded daesang by a 4th gen group, sold almost 600million album sales with a freaking debut album, won visionary award (higher than daesang), having back to back hits with next level and savage, 4th gen highest mv views in 24hrs, ambassador of luxury brands left and right and more. they have everything to become the next biggest gg in the world mark my word.

Obviously everyone has preferences and biases, and girl groups are more likely to chart in Korea and thus be considered more relevant, but the success of groups like Seventeen, Enhypen, Stray Kids, TxT, Ateez, NCT Dream, and more can hardly be overlooked… heck I don’t even really stan Enhypen but the fact they became million sellers within a year of their debut is huge. Kingdom Legendary War, for all the issues it had, was also big…

Ateez slayed this year honestly
Ateez had already sold hundreds of tickets for the tour that was supposed to be in 2019 and those were still applicable for the rescheduled dates. I would know, I'm FINALLY seeing them on the 30th after waitinn 2 years. This will be my second concert EVER and the fact that they are my ults? FUCKKKKKK YES

I'm in awe of the rookie girl groups this year. Especially Ive. They are going to be are force in the industry. My favorite Twice song this year will be their Japanese track Perfect World. Though Cactus is my favorite song from them this year and Icon is second as far as their Korean songs. Lisa my alt bias tried to hurt me with Lalisa. And then succeeded with money. So much good music came out this year. Happy New Year to everyone.
Perfect world creeped its way into being one of my favorite twice songs period next to cry for me and be as one. I loved cactus from their new album along with last waltz, cruel espresso and icon. They really crushed it thus year

Some amazing memories I’ve had this year is the release of ASAP and After School, Joy going solo with her amazing bsides. Twice releasing tons of albums this year. Rosé and Lisa going solo omfg. Brave girls getting a well deserved win! Amazing comebacks by shinee, bts, exo etc. and the many comebacks released by other groups.

This year, i'm so proud of itzy!!! THEY SLAYED. I'm so proud of the success brave girls made, And twice! they worked very hard this year. Imagine how tired they are. And shoutout to Aespa, IVE, and Stayc, they're such hard working and talented individuals. Also Enhyphen who just debuted about a year ago has left kpop on it's side with their bops!! I'm personally not a NCT fan but i hold so much respect for them with the amount of effort they put in their tracks and they had so many comebacks this year omg! I'm really proud of the comebacks kpop had in June, July and August. I think so much kpop fans enjoyed this year, (except the horrible scandals). I hope 2021 is a year to remember with kpop, and 2022 is amazing for everyone💙

Sorry but I can't fathom a 2021 in kpop without a mention of Dream Catcher, even if in passing 😭 They had a massive year with two comebacks selling over 100k albums each, topped Billboard's Next Big Sound chart, became the only kpop group invited to primavera sound music festival, were in the top 10 best selling girl groups of the year, had their first variety show, released their second photobook, first season's greetings, had three concerts, unveiled their official lightstick+robe, went on weekly idol for the first time, were finally invited to countless shows, released a ton of content, are in a bunch of top kpop of 2021 lists etc etc. They did so much this year but aren't ever mentioned by anyone. Even just recently their 2020 song BOCA started trending on tiktok. They did not close out an iconic trilogy with Odd Eye and then pay homage to Jordan Peele's Us with BEcause to be paid dust by everyone 😭 I know people include groups they like in content but even official sales counters were leaving them out of lists which is insane. Same for Mamamoo.
As a fan of Dreamcatcher since 2018, I just can't believe how often Dreamcatcher gets ignored. They are underrated to the extreme! Considering their contracts are near ending, I was hoping they'd renew their contract after they'd finally get the attention they deserved considering their massive sales and high-quality merch and albums. I'm shocked and hurt that they continue to get ignored despite their achievements! 😭
I really hope some day kpop fans realize there's a kpop group called dreamcatcher doing unique concept and genre. Not mentioning their own nightmares

For me this video missed the mark by not staying focused ONLY in girl groups and making that clear. All of the bgs mentions were VERY superficial. I think ggs are taking over the 4th generation but there were still a LOT of HUGE moments for bgs/male artists that got overlooked and should be remembered in a 2021 recap. You can't talk about everything that happened, of course, but some stuff was so memorable that I watched the whole video waiting for a mention and it never came. NCT was only mentioned for its controversies (NCT Hollywood, Lucas case, and Sticker being unusual) even tho they were one of the biggest acts of 2021, like c'mon. There are many more but here are some examples of stuff that were left out:
-NCT Dream's 1st full album Hot Sauce
-Taemin's and Baekhyun's last solos releases before enlistment (with Bambi being the most sold solo album in kpop!)
-BTS's Butter
-TXT's releases, especially the album The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE and tiktok hit "Anti-romantic"
-NCT 127 Sticker achievements (being the most sold full album of 2021!)
Sad that people don't talk too much about Exo releases just bcuz SM has promoted none of them... Despite this they made so many records this year and y'all don't even know that :')..

Oh calm down he can't include every group, also it was the year for rookie groups so he obviously won't focus as much on Exo.
Enhypen also did amazing this year! They had 2 comebacks this year and not just the mvs were good but the bsides were also great.

- ive getting already big in their debut
- and ofc bts, the biggest group in the world released the soty butter and went on to win their 3rd well deserved daesang sweep. has more than 32m album sales 📈📈📈 and spring day and boy with luv spending over 1000 consecutive days on melon daily the only songs to do so.
There is a lot that happened for Stray Kids this year like Kingdom, another full album release, season album, the fact that they were seriously tying in with BTS for the win at MAMA it was very close... kind of sad you didn't mention it at least one of these things considering it was kind of big this year.
2021 gave us the return of some 1st and 2nd gen kpop legends!! As well as the shocking disbandments of some groups.
I always enjoy your videos but this one was kinda :/ like, I get that is practically impossible to fit everything into one not too long entertaining yt video, but at the same time I feel like it was a little too much biased. Like, NCT had the most successful year so far, selling +10M albums combined, but you only mentioned how "questionable" sticker was, without acknowledging the good results that the song had (and the album still charting on billboard with the most weeks for a kpop album released this year). There were amazing solos this year too with Key getting his first win and Kai and D.O's solo debut. Monsta X released a movie and had two korean comebacks + another english full album. Kingdom happened too, and it was a mess but it left some top tier performances. I don't know I just felt like it was just gg (who had an amazing year and they deserve the recognition), BTS and some other group sparkled here and there.
This was definitely the year of STAYC. Their schedule probably needs twice as many days a year, that's how much they are in demand. Just look at the end of the year. At which event were they not, and always with new ideas? Give them a break 😱 (no please not 😁).
IVE is a true enrichment for kpop and I'm already looking forward to more in 2022.

I saw this pop up in the my recommend and watched it hoping to see my Ults ATEEZ but they are not included???? They had a great year as well as all the other groups mentioned here they may not have won kingdom but they still were on it, they had 3 comebacks with multiple title tracks in each one, one of the members (Song Mingi) returned after taking a medical leave period of rest.
