While I agree that it would look great on a leather strap (and I'll be ordering one for my green dial version), the rubber makes more sense for a watch with 300 m of water resistance.
I like mine, but I have tried to fit other straps, but the space between the spring bar and the case is very narrow and I have not been able to fit a leather strap.
It's hard to say which would be brighter in regards to the lume. As I only have this particular Eagle Ray GMT so I can't compare with another one that has the BGW9. But this lume does seem on par with some other models that I have taken a look at it from Phoibos that have BGW9. I do feel that this old radium lume does take a better initial charge than BGW9. Longevity seems about the same.
