    Sweet vid! Poker definitely helps out with mental math haha one trick that I use is using scientific notation when dividing two large numbers. For example if you were asked to divide 21 billion by 70 thousand you could just use 21 x 10^9 / 7 x 10^4. If you do 21/7 and then subtract 9-4 (from 10^9 and 10^4) your answer is 3 x 10^5(300k)!

      Thanks Musa! And definitely, that's a great way to handle large numbers (and perfect examples that ties into Rohit's point on not writing out 0's)

    Thank you so much for this video! I’m a humanities major about to start recruiting for consulting and my main worry has always been the maths, but seeing it broken down like this and all the shortcuts makes it seem a lot more manageable than I initially thought! Thanks a lot!

      They work for one of the BIG FOUR! All of the big 4, and essentially the BIG 15 accounting and consulting firms have phenomenal training... but they also recruit the best, so these guys were probably geniuses already! LOL I think Boston Consulting Group[ (BCG) has the best training, followed by Ernst & Young.

    Would be better if you added some visual captions when you talk about the math tricks and processes. Since Neel talks pretty fast, having something to look at while hearing about the same thing, really helps visual learners.

    Don't confuse calculations with math, this is mostly knowing how to calculate things and being trained on doing the calculations without a calculator. This is not the same as Math in general.

    I actually do the same trick as Neel with the 25 (multiply by 100 and divide by 4), but would you personally recommend walking your interviewer through this thought process? Or else just saying "18 times 25 is.... 450"

    • @neelandrohit6490
      @neelandrohit6490  4 роки тому

      Haha that's awesome to hear! I (Neel here) would recommend walking through interviewer through the math, but framing it more as you showing them the way you're doing the math rather than showing them as if they wouldn't know how to do it themselves. It's just about striking a balance between explaining and over-explaining (because your interviewer will likely be good at math too)

    Hey guys, hope you're well. Awesome video!! It sounds super interesting :)
    I'm considering switching from my Accounting Major at McGill into one of the following.. I'm the first out of my family to go to college, didn't grow up in much wealth, I'd like to change that for myself.
    Which career, do you guys believe, provides me the best opportunity of a high earning potential (given I'd stay in MTL/Canada)
    1. Civil engineer
    2. Accountant/CPA
    3. Finance (IB/Consulting/etc.)
    4. Premed track
    What did you major in? Did you find your major helped you out in your current job? What do you recommend!
    Thanks guys! I know it's a little bit of an unconventional question, and hoping to hear your responses.
    Matan

    • @neelandrohit6490
      @neelandrohit6490  3 роки тому

      Hey Matan, apologies for the late reply!
      Awesome story man, and best of luck changing your family's financial situation around. As for the career with the highest earning potential, my personal opinion (Neel here) is that finance will provide that. Specifically if you go the investment banking (or maybe even consulting) route into private equity. That's a sure-fire way, although quite stressful and demanding and selective, to get a ~$250K yearly salary just 3 - 4 years out of uni
      Have you made any headway on this decision since making your comment?
