    Hey Taptic! Creality released a firmware update on the 26th last month at their website, addressing some of the issues we've discussed; they introduced a "Extruder Configuration" setting in the options section on the pad. You can now set your hotend temperature limit and extruder steps depending on what extruder you're rocking. The e-steps calculation is a little finicky, but it's basically taking the current set value, and multiplying it by a ratio of the measured extruded filament over a controlled value (100mm). I set my values appropriately and it's working fantastic!

      Wow! Creality does fix stuff sometimes! I might have to give it a try, I’m still running a slightly older rooted firmware simply because I’ve spent so much time tuning it that I don’t want to go through it all again, but I may try it on another machine. I can’t believe setting e-steps wasn’t a default to begin with! Thanks for letting me know about the cool new stuff too!

    Awesome! This is a really tempting option. $85 right now or less if you hunt, comes with a webcam and G-sensor, easier than a Raspberry Pi or alternatives. Without the root access it was definitely not the best option, but now it seems sweet. Even if you buy alternative parts you'll be looking at a similar price, so this is a win for Creality even if only thanks to the public fixing their mistake. That's an awesome 7 segment model too!

    This is excellent news. I was able to get the Nebula pad working after getting the newer firmware from the Creality site, but this rooted firmware definitely takes it to the next level. Can't wait for the firmware to drop and to give it a spin. Thank you for being on the front end of this technology! Glad you got it working. I have some experience with rooting phones and using command prompts so I'm sure I can make it work but I will definitely need to do more research before I'm comfortable with the process to flash it onto one of my printers. Plus I don't actually have the Nebula Pad yet. The great thing about this community is that someone will probably create a more user friendly method of flashing it to various printers in the future.

    • @TapticDigital
      @TapticDigital  7 місяців тому +1

      On the upside because it doesn’t actually change the firmware itself, you can still use the Nebula without much risk, and you can always flash right back to stock if it hits any errors. But I agree, were it not for the community we have I doubt half these printers would work as well as they do

    I have the Sonic Pad to control multiple printers, yeah Klipper is the best upgrade you can make to a non Klipper printer.. For the price its a decent deal to get into Klipper, you get more accurate prints and faster and adds wifi control etc to you printer. With the cost of a raspberry pi and a screen these offerings from Creality are pretty well priced.. and yeah why did i do it, because i got a Klipper based printer and found out what i was misssing, I wanted Klipper on my Ender's from that point on... for $130 for the Sonic Pad I can upgrade all 4 of them to Klipper with wifi control etc.. Yep sold.. But yeah Creality should open up the SSH etc, especially for people with upgraded printers that differ from stock configuration.

    Until today I have not been able to use my Creality Nebula, I cannot calibrate the printer parameters to adjust the center of the table where the CR Touch Probe should measure the Z axis. It is measuring the Z almost at the edge of the table of printing and when doing the mesh leveling of the table, the first point that the CR touch tries to measure is almost 5cm outside the printing table, as the probe does not touch the table the extruder nozzle collides against the table.

      I had the same issue at first, but I have a solution! Assuming you are running the rooted firmware with klipper open your printer.cfg in the configuration settings. Yes, on the flash drive included in the Nebula Kit you’ll find a file called “firmware_Nebula_Pad.bin”. All I did was go through and increase my speeds by 2-3x, so where my print speed was 60mm/s I bumped to 180mm/s. Then upped temperatures by about 5-10c since it’ll have to keep up with the speed. The big thing that I almost forgot was in Prusa there is a “maximum print speed” and my printer would never go past that speed even with the others set to go faster, just change that one to 200mm/s and you should be golden. Yes it should still be much better than factory for speed. It also depends on what your printing settings are, I’ve found that with my set up it starts to lose quality past 200mm/s. And unfortunately klipper systems don’t understand common gcode macros like M600 (filament change), it requires adding some code to the config file. Much too long to post here, but there’s a Reddit post on r/klippers from a few months ago titled “Filament change mid print” and they have the code linked there.

    • @TapticDigital
      @TapticDigital  7 місяців тому

      Super easy to go back, all you have to do is place a different firmware on your microSD card and place it in the printer. The Nebula Pad printer firmware overwrites your existing one, so you’ll need to keep a copy of your old firmware handy or download a new one!

    Great video and a life saver for me as I have exactly the same set up as you. Two errors I encountered are the probe auto levelling off the bed and the front, and I think the extruder not pushing out enough filament. What two values am I changing here, and are they in the printer config file on your website? Appreciate the help!

    • @TapticDigital
      @TapticDigital  6 місяців тому +1

      Kipper doesn’t call it e-steps like every other printer firmware does, they call it “rotation distance” so check for that in your configuration. There are also a few calculators online to convert normal e-steps to rotation distance. As for probing off bed, I had to change two things. The first being the “home” point, I moved my extruder so the probe was roughly centered and used those XY values as my new home point in the configuration. I also ran into an issue where it would try to move the X farther than possible, so I ended up reducing my build size by about 10mm on the XY.

    • @robparker1944
      @robparker1944 3 місяці тому

      @@TapticDigital Just thought I'd update you on progress. I adjusted the rotation distance successfully, and also the home point. Started to struggle getting the probing off the bed to fix. Turns out is was the BLTouch offsets that were giving me issues, not sure if it's the same for you. Maybe try and reset your build size and adjust the BLTouch offsets? Mine were X -33 and Y-30 - same set up as you.

    • @TapticDigital

      Unfortunately Cura is not compatible with the default g-code. The above-mentioned 2171 error is given, and I can not print anything. I have found info on altering gcode, but I am still fairly new and am not sure if I am doing it right. I currently have 2 printers, one stock and one with the Nebula system. I need something that will work with both. Rooting is pretty in-depth, so I am a bit leary.

      So you’ll want to use the firmware bin file from the flash drive your nebula included, you’ll place this on your printers MicroSD card. Sure thing, in the cfg file under the section [extruder], you can adjust the “rotation distance”. This is a little tricky and I ended up using an online “klipper rotation distance calculator”. I’m no good at math myself, but that’s why we have calculators in the first place isn’t it? 😉
