  • Come on a crafting adventure to create a miniature version (complete with lights) of Bilbo's Hobbit Hole from Lord of the Rings for my dad for Christmas. A little piece of the Shire, right in your own home.
    All you need is a peanut can, some cardboard and cereal boxes, papier mache, paint, and some little pieces of nature.
    Such a fun project! I've seen quite a few really good Lord of the Rings/Hobbit inspired book nooks and dioramas, so if you want to continue the adventure, here are a couple that I really enjoyed:
    • The Hobbit Book Nook [...
    • Mount Doom Book Nook 🌋...

    If you are here to point out that the piece I was confused about is a doorbell, about 50 people have pointed it out now and rest assured, the info has been received lol! Seriously thank you for wanting to help out, I feel pretty silly now for not realizing it at the time. But yeah, I know it is a doorbell, thank you!

    I hope my local dollar store still has rolls of spider mesh in stock so I can get just the right dirt consistency.
    Also, this is such a fantastic video! Gandalf is indeed my favorite. I keep Glamdring and his staff close by at all times.

      Hahaha funnily enough that is literally the only thing not from the dollar store, the premium spider mesh for perfect dirt™ is from Michaels quite a few years ago (still only a dollar though).
      I'm really glad you enjoyed! Knew it, nobody can escape the wise wizard character, least of all me. Glad you're prepared, you never know when an orc will show up.

    I like the fact that it's made of cheap materials that can be found around the house, it makes a build like this accessible to any of the inhabitants of middle earth.
    It isn't every hobbit that has access to large dragon hoards of styrene, foamcore, modeling clay and static grass, nor does the average hobbit hole come equipped with laser cutters and 3D printers.

    • @MechanicalFiend
      @MechanicalFiend  2 роки тому +2

      Oh so you missed the part of the movie where Bilbo pulls out the 3D printer and makes a 1:1 replica of the ring? It's in the extended edition. No seriously, thank you so much for saying all that- it is always my biggest hope that people see that they can make stuff without having a huge barrier to entry. Where have you been and why haven’t you been in my feed? Just what I want to watch. Someone making so cosmetically pleasing terrain etc. using less of the pro tools and using ingenuity to improvise with what you have at hand. This has definitely inspired me to go back to my roots with my next project. Looking back on my first project ever,a dice box surrounded by brick with a pretty wooden and fabrics floor inside. It is so satisfying to make something like this and step back afterward to just ..look at it. I’ll shut up now but good deal. Can’t wait to watch morw

    Young lady I want to say something to you. I watch literally thousands of diorama videos each year. Yes I know of all of them. I think you are pretty special. Here is why. Many of the guys who do this are indeed very good. Some aren’t so good yet they speak with extreme authority while they barely know anything. Here we have you. You are way smarter than you think yet you are so humble and good. Do not EVER change! You have the patience of Job and the creativity of an artist. You solve problems inventively and forge ahead like you did building that amazing house over the cliff. That is a huge accomplishment! I’m so proud of you. I have not done anything that huge yet. When I do I hope to do as good as you. Oh and you probably know this by now but when you want to see nails or rivets like on the door where you used dabs of hot glue consider ordering tiny gem stones from Amazon. Perhaps the 1.3 mm size. I got over 2000 for little more than pocket change. They come in many sizes. Cheap and effective. Just put a dab of tacky tape on the end of a paint brush handle and you can easily pick them up and apply them. You are a delight. I’m subscribed. Keep up the great work and stay sweet just like you are. 🙂🖖🏼
    PS just finished watching and your work is fabulous! I had chill bumps. Hey nice going with at scale miniature grasshopper that landed on the door! 😉. You did so good. Hug yourself for me.

    I never did paper mache in school so I know nothing about the medium, I had no idea it could give such a clean result for natural terrain- and that flour and water mixture looks like an amazing substitute for small amounts of modeling paste, now I don't have to shell out money to buy it when I don't know how to sculpt 😅 you're really really helpful when it comes to doing things on a budget that are still of amazing quality

    • @MechanicalFiend
      @MechanicalFiend  3 роки тому +2

      I never did it in school either, they were really holding out on us! For the longest time I thought it HAD to be done with glue and water, but when I tried the flour and water technique there was no going back. It takes a while to dry, but if you can leave it overnight while working on something else, it's great! Granted, I'm probably pretty biased, but it's really versatile and inexpensive. Super glad you enjoyed everything, if it can help with projects, that makes me the happiest~

    I think 5his tuned out awsome. Love your paper mache work. For the grasses, you can pull them up like you did, then make small bunches wrap some thread around the end of the bunch and hang it up side down to dry. Some place warm to hot and out of direct sunlight. This way your plants will stay in 3D.
