I have never been told or realized that you’re supposed to push back your heels while planking. Not one trainer has told me this! Very helpful thank you!
Big thanks for the tip on the heels. Truly felt my core engaged and I could keep my heels together, instead of shoulder length apart. Plus shoulders/elbows were less fatigued
I watched this video over a week ago and wanted to apply the techniques I learned from it. I was able to with my coach, tonight during my warm up for boxing lessons. The cupping the hands and elbows out to help support the shoulders, tremendously helped my form. Thank you for sharing this tip. I feel a lot more confident during a plank.
The regular plank is hard enough for me right now, but I won’t try holding it for a minute anymore. 30 seconds with proper form does get the shaking going.
There are not a lot of women in whom I find value on fitness related channels. For that matter, there are not a lot of men in whom I find value on fitness related channels!Yours is an extremely significant exception to that. Thanks for your straightforward and scientific approach. It’s much appreciated!
Omg! No wonder my lower back has been so tender since I started doing planks regularly 😆 Thanks for your thorough explanation! It really helps us newbies.
Thank you Cori! Great info as usual, I learn new things all the time from you! I did not know about the elbow positioning or heels back, and I’ve been practicing planking a lot so I’m very excited to implement this!💪🏼🙌🏼
Great info! Started doing 20 seconds planks, with 20 second breaks for 5 minutes, 3 weeks ago. Now I’m up to 40 seconds for (20 second breaks) 5 minutes. Back pain has almost disappeared. I still have a belly, but the back pain being less is worth 5 minutes of my day. I will focus on engaging my abs and glutes this week.
Love that you're focusing on that proper engagement and building up. I will tell you if you are looking for fat loss, diet truly is also a key component as well! But so glad you're back pain is lessening! Keep at that focused core work!
Thank you for the modification. About 6 days ago I had rotator cuff surgery and cant use my right arm… I will attempt the incline version using my left arm only.
Thank you for this helpful insight into planks. I've been researching on the internet and believe me when I say a lot of information out there but they cannot communicate or articulate it in a way for all people. You have simplified and explained it well. I understand and I will now implement and focus on what muscles I'm engaging rather than how long I am holding the plank. Wish me luck 🙏👍
So glad the tips helped! Focusing on what you feel working to tweak and adjust will be key. And don't forget to regress to progress as needed to make sure you feel the correct muscles working! The incline is a great way to build up!
Thank you so much. We've started a Menopause Plank Challenge (because as bones deteriorate, we really wanted to develop a stronger core). This is such a useful video in that it sets great foundations that I know I may have rushed passed. Thank you for the clarity. Whooo hoo. Abs here we come!
This was a great video, I have always had a hard time doing a plank. I really got a lot out of it, thank you. Been watching quite a few of your videos recently.
Yoga mats help. I often have to fold mine in half and put my elbows on it and it is such a huge relief. My elbows don't feel like they are eating into the floor anymore.
Beautifully clear detailed explanation. You are the first person I have heard say to drive back through your heels. I have been wondering what is the proper position for your feet. Now I know. And it was great to hear hold harder not longer. Of course we have a tendency to think longer is better because we can see it. And I was concerned when I was shaking too, if that was a bad thing. Now I know it's a good thing.
This video was so helpful I only wish I had found it sooner! You're completely right about focusing on planking longer. I've been trying to extend my planking time but I could barely get past 30 seconds. I just tried it again, following these tips and I got to 50 seconds! My max time had been 1m 30s but doing it this way felt so much better than watching the time until it hit a certain number and then trying to push past that lol. This is great improvement! Thank you so much for this video! =D
Hi. Am currently participating in a Personal Trainer course in Cape Town, South Africa. I'm benefitting from the lockdown of the Corona Virus, and am working on my portfolio. BOY! COURTNEY'S LINK IS A GOD-SEND! And her dog?? 😍SO, PERFECTLY CUTE! So, hopefully I'll keep you posted on my progress.... I'm SO MOTIVATED, NOW! THANKS, COURTNEY!
I did it! Thank you! Do 2 minutes plank then rest for 30 seconds then 2 minutes again until you meet a total of 10 minutes a day. Abs and triceps will show in 5 days. The abs will not be solid but you can still see it!
I appreciate your detailed form description. I have severe scoliosis and osteoporosis, I continue to struggle with knowing proper technique for planking. Do you have any other tips for planking with a right thoracic left lumbar scoliosis? I just discovered you and found this planking video quite useful. Thanks Diana
As someone with Parkinson's, Plank is a regular part of our exercise regime. For the time before shaking occurs I think there could be other factors contributing as I find Plank harder and reach that point much quicker now 7 years since diagnosis.
Thank you for advice. I usually feel my shoulders and back when I plank. I will focus on short time try more to engage my core. Any more advice on to use my abdominal muscles more?
I'm nursing a shoulder winging problem. What cues could you give me? And, the only way I can feel the serratus working is the winging happens. Can you help?
I always thought to hold both arms apart for better effect but I was always comfortable clasping both hands as I felt I could hold the planks position more easily and longer thanks for the tip
Thank you for uploading this wonderful useful information so early! Do you get up at five am every day? I learnt something again today, simply awesome!👍🌞🙏
@Redefining Strength: Thanks again, Coach! I'm 9 hrs ahead of you so for me it's already a great start into the weekend, which is very much appreciated. Personally, I'm not much of an early bird but more of a night owl. You too, have a wonderful sunny Friday! 🌻🌞
I hope you are safe and well. I have scoliosis right thoracic left lumbar. I’ve been told to do planks for ab strength. I need to protect my shoulders. Will you please explain technique especially with shoulders for planking safely? Thank you so much, Diana
I had no idea shaking was kind of a good thing when planking..I thought it simply meant I was THAT weak/out of shape. 😅 Thanks!
Nope shaking is awesome 😊
Same that’s what I thought
I felt the same. Shaking means it's working 😁
I thought the same too!
My abdominal area was shaking after ten seconds and thought I must be really out of shape😂
Same here. I start to shake after 20 sec 😂
Doctor: You have one minute to live
* Me starts Planking*
Doctor: What are you doing?
Me: Making this minute feel like a lifetime...
lmfao
Great.
Thank you lol
🤣🤣🤣👍🏾

YAY! So glad it helps! Often it's those little tweaks that help us better engage muscles and become more efficient with the movements!

I was having trouble figuring out what I'm doing wrong with my planks. This really helped. Thanks so much.

The tilt tip is a game changer!!!!!

Little tweaks can make the difference! And even having options to adjust moves based on our needs. Let me know how it feels doing those adjustments!
you're the best and your short videos really help, keep it up.
Hi Courtney, many thanks for the video and tips. Great to know these things. Enjoy your day
Thanks! Glad the tips help!
I always felt bad or that I was cheating for holding my hands together but I'm glad to see it's actually beneficial :)

Really useful - especially the tips about pushing back through the heels and if it's shaking, it's working!

Do 2 minutes plank then rest for 30 seconds then 2 minutes again until you meet a total of 10 minutes a day. Abs and triceps will show in 5 days. The abs will not be solid but you can still see it!
U sure we can do that everyday?
@@Jubby1 - Yes, bro! Do it 5 days a week and rest two days. You will see results you wanted bro!
I do it 2 times a day for 3 mins each plank let's see how long before I see the abs

What about side planks? I have so much trouble with these: where to put my feet & stability, etc. Thanks!
Hi Cyndey. I can definitely do a more in depth look at them, but these tips will help you get started - ua-cam.com/video/pVh3zBMGrfA/v-deo.html
@@redefiningstrengthOC please do a more indepth one - i'd really appreciate it as i find side planks tricky for the exact same reasons as Cyndey.
Love it. Thanks
