Andrew, the reason I love this channel is the long cuts, the artful shots, the elaborate stories. In a sea of 3 second cuts and goofy thumbnails, your channel stands up by not being that.
One of the greatest bands ever concentrated on the art, not on their personas. They never showed their faces, not even when winning a Grammy. Everyone knows the Daft Punk robots. I think that says it all.
The advice he gave you is for his channel, his personality, not yours. Don't go for clicks, stick with the quality.

    • @daddymuggle
      @daddymuggle 2 роки тому +15

Yes! I watch Watchfinder because it's not about the presenter, it's about the watches.
And yet the personalities of the hands, and latterly of Tom and Andrew, come through. Of course we're interested in the faces, and that's why the mystery is so powerful.

    • @sylinmino
      @sylinmino 2 роки тому +16

Nico framed his advice this way as well. He said that his techniques for holding attention work for him, but Andrew should absolutely not adopt those same ones if it will meddle with the integrity and quality of the channel. Good, respectable advice on Nico's part.

I don't know, the "talking hands" is this channel's signature. If you show your faces then keep them at a once-in-awhile appearance.
Oh, and don't ever change the cinematography, it's exquisite and the main reason I watch...well, and the highbrow humor.

I agree with Nico that Adrew should be recognized for the AMAZING job he has done, but I would suggest 2 things:
    1. Do the face reveal on YOUR channel, you deserve those views
    2. Maybe show your face on this podcast kind of videos but do not change your classic videos, because they are truly a work of art (that has costed me thousands because I've bought all my watches after seeing them on your videos)

One of the best things about watchfinder videos is that you actually see the watches thruout the video and not the speaker half of the time. Most other youtubers show themself all the goddamn time and then they have 10sec of watch footage during a 15min "review". You can do that in reaction videos or in your podcast style videos but please not in the educational watchvideos surrounding specific models and collections.
watchfinder and Nico, you make great content! Keep up the good stuff! :)

Ahh a new Watchfinder &Co video. Kool! Made my day, mates! Absolutely loved it.
Andrew, the humility to accept and the zeal to make the channel bigger (visible from the past few weeks) is heartening to see!
Regarding the face reveal, I'd be happy to see but I wouldn't not see your content if you hadn't revealed which is to say - don't be compelled to do it unless you 'want' to do it!
My suggestion for the collab is: do a watch reaction video wherein you react to the watch first (like a Grand Seiko :P) and let Nico have a go next. That'd be fun! Ofcourse, this is in addition to what you guys are already planning with cars, etc.
I would love to see you guys collaborate with 'Youre Terrific' as well. He makes great videos too and has a practical/fun approach to the hobby which is rare to see here.
PS: Please make sure the humour content of this frequency (like the constant Hublot references in this video) is there in every video.

What Nico says is actually good advice, IF you use it to complement, not to substitute, analysis of time watched to understand why people are clicking out is a good thing, so is a style improvement in shooting time, thumbnails and titles, but don't take the wrong lessons from it, 3 second shots are not for everyone, it works wonders for his style, but for yours maybe just play a bit with longer and smaller shots without losing focus on your style, improving is good as long as you don't lose focus, and a couple experimental videos can be fun even if they don't work out great, you can still learn from the experience, people saying that you shouldn't change anything can't see that for improving you need a bit of change, and stagnation eventually will lead to downfall, having said that, I love both your channels, and both your styles, you both are already winning on UA-cam, and I wish you both nothing but the best.

We need more collaborations and inclusion in the watch UA-cam space and would love to see Nico back to talk about; 1.) all the different complications and both sides take on each complication, 2.) GMT versus world timer and which is really more practical for everyday use, 3.) Daytona vs. Day/Date which really is the ageless and iconic Rolex known all over the world and why? 4.) Zelos micro brand and their possible future and value in the watch space, 5.) Minute timer, the most under-appreciated complication?

The face reveal could be a bad idea on the Watchfinder channel, but a good idea on Nico’s channel or another watch channel. The appeal and success of Watchfinder is the story telling and amazing camera work, not the faces. With UA-cam all about grabbing attention, it’s nice to have a calm, incredibly entertaining and intelligent video without the constant barrage of images and shouting in our faces. I love both channels and gained more respect from this interview. I can’t sub the channel or like the videos anymore, but absolutely love the work that you do! Cheers

I will be showing my age here, but if anyone remembers the shows “Cheers” and “Frazier” they both had characters that we never saw. In “Cheers” it was Norm’s wife Vera. In “Frazier” it was Niles’ wife Maris. It totally worked for those shows. Maybe it was because we kept watching to see if there would ever be a reveal. Maybe we liked how they played around it. Whatever it was, it worked.

Nearby, there are some designer boutiques and a jewellery. Had a glance at the window and the mood of the evening shifted from great to the worst possible nightmare for Nico.
There was Not a Hublot, nor two...
HALF of the shop window was packed with Hublots, about 12 of them, creating an atmosphere of chaos, a Big Bang of Nico's Kryptonite.

I literally laughed out loud when Tom said, "Horology House doesn't show his face any-more". Very funny Tom! On a serious note, I really love the Watchfinder videos. Their artistic and beautifully photographed macro images allow us to see the detail in watches that normally pass us by. The rare and unusual examples and I'm thinking now of the double and triple split ALS's are some of the most mesmerising UA-cam videos I have ever watched, so please don't ever change the format. Your brand is very recognisable so be wary of changing your thumbnail too much as it easily stands out when my eyes scroll than the page. Maybe the Tom and Andrew colab videos could be your space to experiment whilst retaining the educational watch videos in their present format, for now at least. I think you also have to remember that yourselves and Nico attract two distinctly different types of audience. There will be some crossover but if you asked true watch nerds who would they choose if they could only subscribe to one, the reply might be very enlightening and I don't think it would be Nico (but I may be wrong). Your content is all about quality, very much like the watches you are promoting whilst I think it's fair to say that Nico is all about 'shock and awe'. He has to keep finding new things and new ways to create the drama because that's why people watch him. The Watchfinder videos have a timeless quality and the format whilst remaining relatively unchanged since its inception continues to attract a growing audience each week. Keep up the good work an don't think for one moment you are doing anything wrong. And remember, what if UA-cam changes its algorithms again and any changes then backfire on you!

This is to all the members of the Watchfinder family. You guys are the most quality watch content on the internet. Period. I'd not be a fan of watches and get into watch collecting if it were not for all the educational videos you guys make. I have to admire the fact that you also generate the most neutral watch content where every other channel on youtube is biased in one way or the other. This is your selling point guys, please do not change this. On your channel, every piece is treated with it's own merits and demerits from an almost neutral perspective. The anonymity behind it all also adds to this allure, according to me, a person may hate or love a watch but watchfinder tells it like it is. Kind of like batman, you guys are the watch content we need but not the one we deserve, because you are too good for us. The fidelity of your shots and way you capture the essence of each watch is mesmerizing, probably the next best thing to owning the watch itself. Your content will never be boring to the faithful crowd you have amassed over the years, because we are watch lovers and not watch haters, and that is what sets you guys apart. Keep doing what you do folks, you are perfect the way you are and you don't need to change one bit!
    Cheers!

It would be cool (not sure if allowable or legal) if the Watchfinder's & Nico's channels swapped styles for one video. So, Watchfinder would attempt to do the whole 3-second max edit, yelling, bleeping-type of video, and Nico Leonard did the "talking hands," quiet, long form, poetic ode-type video (with the Watchfinder background music).

Hi Nico, Andrew and Tom - you’re all really entertaining, knowledgeable, educational and interesting.
Please just ignore the hurtful or spiteful stuff people write - pick out the good and useful critique.
Keep up the amazing work, cheers Dave

This was awesome! I watch both channels and a few others. I watch them for different reasons though. This channel i really enjoy being educated about a watch i am interested in or maybe already own, or maybe learning about a company I've never heard of before. I watch Nico because he has a personality i can relate to, obviously has a passion for watches and thoroughly entertains me. Keep up the awesome work 🤘

The irony of this video is Nico speaking on the subject of titling videos with a view to baiting viewers into clicking.
I genuinely watch every video that Watchfinder put out (& Nico’s as well), but this one slipped through the net because of the title - I only found it when Nico linked it in his own video.
Now that I’m here, I get the reference - but the title reads ‘BORING’ and that’s all the brain catches. Great video as per usual though. Love Watchfinder and love Nico

Great collaboration. I enjoyed hearing the real Nico. I like the mystic of not seeing your faces. The introduction of the talking microphones has been a refreshing change to this channel, adding a lighthearted element to your watch feature vids. And I think it's so much fun that your guests are microphones too 😄I believe showing your faces would be too much at this time. I've learned so much from the talking hands, and now microphones, that I would continue to watch even if you never reveal your faces. I agree with Nico, your content is some of the best not just in watch-land, but across all of UA-cam! If you wanted to discuss cars, introduce the talking cars concept 😄

I would say Nico does content for everyone even people that are not into watches. Watchfinder is making watch people drool and their wallets bleed with macro shots and smooth story telling. Your macro shots made me choose GS over Rolex and Omega. Nico is like watch fashion police and you teach us that every watch deserves to be loved. I rewatched Die another day this weekend and couldnt get your idea about Rolex CEO burning Omegas CEO with laser to get the Bond contract back out of my head. Dont ever change.

Wow, I chose Hodinkee in the survey, big mistake. I love the nod to Nikko in the title of this video.
Perfection is attainable, listen to Nikko's advice after he gave you so much live!
Nice! What I love is the format of learning and then sharing. That's why you have earned my attention. In the end, don't forget that.
Thanks Again, hope you remember this humble comment.
PS: I was hoping you'd ask Nikko how he memorizes all those reference numbers.
