- Hey everyone!
I thought this video would be an interesting watch for some people as I get asked a lot how long it takes me to make a Kawaii Studios cupcake charm.
I also get a lot of comments about my pricing and many people consider it to be too high. I wanted to make this video to also highlight why my prices are actually fairly low considering the time the items take to make.
If you take for example the time it takes minus drying, baking etc that's around 50 mins. In the UK if I was to work for minimum wage an hours work is worth around £6.70. That means if I was doing this full time I would in theory have to factor in around £6 just for the time I put in and that's without adding fees, cost price, packaging etc.
The times in this video are just an estimation, as I usually work in twos when making the cupcakes and then most of the glazing and assembling is done in bulk, the whole process is a little complicated to work out for just one charm but I'm pretty happy with how accurate the numbers are.

I personally perfer videos like this over tutorials because as someone who has been crafting making art for years this helps me better understand your process then all the talking. sometimes I will watch a speed paint or speed craft like 5 times before making something just because watching someone go through there process helps with mine. :) so thanks!! :3
Wow for something as simple as a cupcake taking so long. I am not saying your work is simple. To see how much time and effort you put into making each cupcake perfect is amazing. Another note. It makes me furious when people continue asking artists to make their signature piece(s) after the artist has nicely asked crafters not to request the tutorial. Thanks for the video.

I love that you showed everything from start to finish and included the time you spend on each step - it's a great way of showing that there's more to making a charm than 'just' the sculpting part :)

I really like this video. I get asked all the time how long it takes to make certain crafts as well as the questions about pricing and all of that. This video describes it pretty succinctly without putting too many words to it!
It definitely makes you realize the value of handmade items like this. People think "oh it's only a couple dollar's worth of materials" but when you take into account the time and skill level involved, it gives you a real appreciation for it.

This is such a lovely, calming video to watch. I know you said you were worried about doing non-tutorials, but this is delightful, and I hope you do other "craft with me" videos! Maybe of the beading you were talking about? The timing estimate is ESPECIALLY nice as a seller. Getting comments on pricing drives me nuts, especially since I don't usually factor in full minimum wage for my time on some items (ones that I do just for fun). Your so right Ruth, people don't realise how much time goes into your crafts, am fairly new to pollymer but am an advanced crocheter and I also quilt . It takes hours somtimes days and weeks to finish an item and people just expect to pay for the yarn or fabrics and not my time. Somtimes they request i make somthing for them as if there doing me a favour in giving me somthing to do, it so insulting, My prices are fairly low considering the time I put into an item but when I give a price I dont often hear back from them, Or I get oh I can buy one cheaper on the high street. High street are mass produced a hand crafted item is unique and a work of art and in my crafts there a one off as I don't normally do the same thing twice ( its the excitement to see the finished result that gives me the drive to finish it ) stick by your prices only a fellow crafter will understand how low your prices actually are. Am in Newcastle there's not much custom for handy crafts here so I try and sell on esty but my shop is slow lol your charms are fab xx

You never use nail polish on polymer clay! Glaze after baking.
