Final Fantasy 8 featured a diverse range of antagonists and Sorceress Edea epitomised their strength. She served as the primary source of aggression though-out the first half of the game and encounters against her were positioned at the end of Disc 1 and the end of Disc 2.
But that was only one side of Edea. During this time she was being controlled by another sorceress from the future called Ultimecia and after that control was relinquished, we got to learn about the softer side of Edea. This related to her relationship with Cid Kramer, her founding of the orphanage that took in Squall, Seifer and Ellone and how she came to found Garden and SeeD.
