yes, this does indeed take place before Ultimate Muscle - Including a time-travel story which ended Ultimate Muscles manga. So, Ultimate Muscle had multiple not yet adapted Sagas, and the final one was about 2 new villains appearing and trying to change time by taking out certain legends before they could father their children. In particular they wanted to take out Kevin Mask by killing Robin Mask before he could father him (because, in the manga, Kevin became the new Choujin World Heavyweight Champion, Kid Muscle did actually loose to him in the finale of the Choujin Olympics in the manga). To stop them Kid Muscle and his friends would follow them to the past, which led into a gigantic Tag Tournament arc in which the New generation had to go up against their fathers and mentors during their prime while also trying to stop the evil Time travellers from actually succeeding. Here is the kicker: The villains from that arc managed to make some extreme changes to the past, like removing Broken Jr. right arm permanently which ment he could no longer use his trademark finisher "The Blood rain of Berlin" and forced him to create a new technique for example. This means that this anime has a very strict time-line to follow, because, as both Terry and KIng Muscle/Kinnikuman said during their final bout here, both still didn't have any of their children yet here.
This series is the shonen foundation that even dragonball has taken from. Whats sad is it didnt get similar recognition despite coming to the english speaking territories like a decade before dragonball. It released through the collectible figurines called m.u.s.c.l.e and the nes game but since they censored and changed the lore nobody knew the comnection and so they didnt bother airing the original anime. By all accounts it should be up there in fame abroad with your one piece naruto and dragonball. Hopefully this changes that. This is basically the Super version of the series, but he doesnt get dumber like goku did
For context, this is actually a midquel between Kinnikuman and Kinnikuman Nisei (Ultimate Muscle's JP name). Basically, this is a sequel to the OG Kinnikuman manga, which first started. Think of it like Ultimate Muscle to be like Dragon Ball Z and Kinnikuman is Dragon Ball. It starts Kid Muscle's dad on how he became King Muscle in his journey to be a worthy successor of the throne of his home planet. After the first series, it got two sequels, which are about Ultimate Muscle, and then after those, Kinnikuman 2011 became the fourth sequel, but it takes place before Ultimate Muscle, but after OG Kinnikuman.
@@Nickncredible No problem, good sir. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the anime so far despite not knowing the full context of the OG manga. I cannot put into words how extremely influential this series has been on so many shonen manga for the last 20-30 years cause this seriespopularizese a lot of tropes you see in your favorite shonen anime like the power of friendship, bad guys turning into good guys after they were beaten, even the idea of power levels. Not to mention many Manga creators like One Piece's creator Oda and many more cited that this manga was a big influence on their careers. I always been a fan of this franchise since Ultimate Muscle and I'm super happy to see brought back for a new audience and to bring back old fans who saw Ultimate Muscle but never had the chance to experience how huge this series is to Japan. I really hope this will lead for the anime creators to make a full remake of the OG manga for us in the States.
It's funny that Ultimate Muscle is tonned down soooo much, the OG series were BLOODY and GORY 🔥 Ramenman rips Broken Jr's father in half with the Camel Clutch and drink his blood from his upper torso, dude has a psycho, but Kinnikuman crushed him with infinite charisma and Ramenman turned into the most honarble fighter imaginable , and this is like.... the 3rd main fight in the beggining of the manga 🤣 Besides being very violent at the time, the theme is the same, power of friendship, justice and other values brings the best of even the worst human beings 🔥 This arc is right after the OG one [from manga Vol.38 up to 60] and then there's a following one [from 61 to 72] and we're not even near Kinnikuman NiSei [Ultimate Muscle] yet [where they have a time-travel arc where they fight along their fathers WHILE ALL THIS RUMBLE IS HAPPENING] , but it a great ride! Also, regarding anime + Wrestling, ever hear of.... TIGER MASK W [W is the new series, the old one is from the 80s] ? 🐯
a bit of aditional context to you, so the events of episode 1 and the rest of the season will take place in 1 and a half years after Kinnikuman's marriage, so pretty much the world of kinnikuman is in peace between all the factions and everybody is kinda of retired from action, until every faction takes part of the peace treaty sign and then this is where the insanity begins, but anyway it's nice to see you're enjoying the series already, would love to see the other reactions being uploaded here as well, episode 0 does a decent job, but there are some stuff lacking still, i will try to provide some info as the series goes along, hope you enjoy the ride
In addition to what other comments have said, the author once shared a guide on the series's timeline made by a fan. said image listed Ultimate Muscle as somewhat an alternate timeline so the canon status is quite dubious. not that Ultimate Muscle/Nisei is completely non-canon though, just keep in mind that there *might* be alternate timelines situation going on. just enjoy this new show and don't worry too much about what happens to the characters in the future!
This series has been confirmed to be a sequel to the og series but ultimate muscle is alternate timeline which is confirmed to be due to the time travel arc and this arc not fitting to together in the canon because ultimate muscle time travel arc never mentioned this stuff and for this current arc that take place in the og timeline , they has been a lot of stuff that basically changed a few things and the lore that one of the Ultimate muscle characters who has a time travel ability in the alternate timeline ( ultimate muscle)
