  • Critical thinking, risk taking, and collaboration-along with academics and discipline-are just some of the areas where Bates Middle school educators report big improvements since integrating the arts across all subject areas.

Obviously I made NO contributions to higher scores since I was TOTALLY disposable. Maybe bc the less I weighed, the less test scores improved? Or maybe you wanted a more diverse population? Scary thing is that I would ABSOLUTELY send my children to this school. It may not appear classy on the surface, but it's top notch. I had THE best years of my life AND teaching career at this school. Thank you to those of who helped facilitate those incredible priceless years.

This was ten years ago! Why is this not going strong nationwide?? Care more for your preteens! They need to see themselves in the future and see possibilities instead of crime scene ribbons. Woo hoo. I love this so much.

Vakintegratie, met de kunstvakken als middel begrip brengen over cognitieve aspecten, een plek waar kinderen leren door te doen... Een inspirerend filmpje.

honestly I have worked in several urban school in my little time as a teacher. Each class I would actually ask students what they thought of having to wear uniforms to school. I would say about 2 out of 3 students preferred the uniform. It was less for them worry about when getting ready and it put all on an even playing field. All of the students would add their own personality to their wardrobe to showcase their individuality. There are many ways to express yourself other than you clothes.

It's great to hear arts is actually being integrated into the classroom and not taken out. Just wondering, does this school also buy and implement certain resources (i.e. pearson's enVision Math or Wonders, writing matters, etc.)? I'd like to see how the arts integration is possible on top of the required resources and the time restraints.

Learning through doing and creativity - it's not rocket science and yet you would think it was a concept from another planet for some education policy makers!

It's strange to me that a middle school that has strict uniform policy is preaching about arts.....don't express yourself except, through the means that we provide you!!! The school ranked 158 out of 239 middle schools (below average) while the school district outperforms it and is ranked 6 out of 25(above average). Actually look up info don't trust these people! Just look over their union contract!!!
