In case you are wondering what is VRD, let me help you.
VRD simply means Voltage Reduction Device. This is a safety mechanism that is put in place in a welding machine to prevent accidental electrocution when the machine is not actively welding.
When the welding machine is turned on but not actively welding, the VRD automatically lowers the Open Circuit Voltage also simply referred to as OCV, to a safe level, typically around 15V or less.
As soon as the welder starts welding and forms a closed electrical circuit, the VRD deactivates, allowing the OCV to rise to its maximum level to establish a stable arc.
VRD is especially important when welding in damp, humid, or confined spaces where the risk of electric shock is higher.
