30D was my first DSLR. I've taken it out recently, along with some other older cameras (e.g. Canon M2 and G11) and have been thoroughly enjoying the fun these older platforms have to offer.
I got the 20D for only 45€ used including batteries, charger, and other stuff. Why is it that cheap? The picture quality is insane! This is how one should get snapshots, not with a smartphone.
I bought a 30D for hundreds of dollars back around 2011, when after having bought a new 7D in 2010, I thought I should "save" my good camera for fun things and buy an older camera to wear out for my work. I ended up taking more photos with a 30D than likely any other camera since, though that 30D now mostly sits on a shelf still working as well as ever, and that prized 7D that should have been used mostly still sits in the bag losing value by the day. I found another 30D a couple of years ago for about $30 with kit lens and charger, and I couldn't pass it up...so I have that too. The 30D is a workhorse, with no frills by today's standards, but all that is really necessary. Yet, I like some of the newer features. The menus were dramatically improved on the 40D, which also added live-view shooting and a boost to 10MP (found the 40D body for less than $5 at a thrift store a few years ago). Thanks for the nice video. I didn't know how to get at the focus screen until you showed it.
I still think the 30D produces some of the nicest colours I’ve seen on a camera. My dad had a 30D and I had a 700D, I have compared the two cameras and while the 700D had way more features, the colours of the 30D were unmatched. Also feels much nicer in the hands. How do you think the 30D and 40D compare? I have known people when the 40D was first released went back to their 30D because they preferred the look of the pictures.
I think you've been unlucky getting a dusty and out of focus camera. Mine takes perfect photos. For me this camera is enough, I don't need photos with a large number of pixels, I just need very good photos and the best thing is that the photos are very light. I got the camera for 60 euros, with a carrying case, a strap, a charger with two long-lasting batteries, and a leather case just for the camera. I think it was a good purchase. Grüsse aus Deutschland!!
Very impressive comparison, nice video! The "grain/noise" is something many people nowadays want to emulate and add to their images, with their LR presets etc, yet these cameras have this aesthetic film some people want straight out. The IQ is quite remarkable compared to a very modern camera, just goes to show. I have X2 Canon 10d's, and they are fantastic bodies, and often use them for a certain look i want. Wouldnt rely on them for paid work, but certainly wouldn't be an issue if I had to. 👍 Noticed these bodies are creeping up in price for good ones...think the secret is out
I'm a fan of bargain rated gear from KEH. Haven't had any serious issues. The incorrectly installed focusing screen was probably the worst thing. Maybe not an amazing deal with how much some ebay sales go for, but having a warranty is nice.
@@ScottJWaldron I've only bought bgn stuff from keh and found it's like new. Only ran into a problem with a 5dm2 that had a line develop on magnified pics. They replaced it (it was within their warranty of a few months) no questions asked. Updated to the 5dM3 for better video. Just bought another bgn lens and will see what it looks like.
Scott, be very careful with this focusing Screen - it gets being scratched bar none very easily. I use only the Rocket Blower to keep it clean, even it doesn't get 100% of all the Dust. Any kind of microfiber, etc. Cloth is prone to make Scratches into this very delicate Screen. And Replacement Focusing Screens can sometimes easily cost the same, as a "new" old 30D, some 20 to 50 Bucks, depending if being used or NOS (New, old Stock).

I made this video a while back. Oh, around 2:20 where I'm showing inside the viewfinder? I have no idea. A scene like that is often done in the editing stage of a video because that's when I know exactly what I need. Not sure why I would have had the camera in -2 EV because I tend to use that one in full manual, but the camera would have been in whatever state it was in beforehand for a clip like that.
I have the same camera and i bought a set of allen keys to try but the smallest size i could buy was 1.5mm and it didnt seem to fit on insert. Is this because i didnt have the right size allen key of 1.3mm? Would appreciate any input from u.

By doing so, the Mirror flips upwards, so one can see the Sensor (well, Sort of, the AA-Filterblock is physically in front of the Sensor Surface), to allow it to Clean. I never needed fluid Lens Cleaning Swaps, and if one isn't extra-ordinary being careful, and don't ever do this with any Kind of Force, only very subtle) the OLPF Block could easily getting scratched - and then your Sensor is being ruined, because you see these Wipe Marks then only every Shot being taken with your Camera. I switch Lenses rarely, and never into the Wild. So Cleaing the Sensor this Way....perhaps all 8k Clicks or so, i only needed it twice since 2006, and i shot only few Images with my 30D.

I'm not a good person to ask because I've rarely done wedding photography. Lenses depend on your style, so I can't recommend some type of perfect lens for you. 35mm is a good start. You could do most of the photography with 35mm on the 30D. To get more background separation, consider something around 50 to 135mm with a large aperture, but I don't know what you could find for the equivalent of $150... good luck.
