I have had this since I was a child. Was in my 30' s before it was diagnosed with a tilt table test. My trigger is sudden sharp unexpected pain such as bumping your toe on a coffee table.
I’ve had it all my life too and was just diagnosed at 38 after a positive tilt table test where I passed out the second they stood me up. It’s a scary disorder. For me, it’s gotten worse as I’ve aged. I wound up with a traumatic brain injury from hitting my head when I passed out in 2018. Every since then I try to get myself to the floor if I feel an episode coming. Sometimes I won’t completely pass out but I’ll feel super tired, almost like I’m drugged. These episodes don’t last long, but they feel awful. Have you noticed that your symptoms have worsened as you’ve aged?
I had this happen. It was odd. I remember standing up at dinner and then I was on the floor and everyone seemed upset. I didn't know why. They told me i passed out.and then i was on the floor in a different place. slightly different, same room. I remember very clearly the moment right before i passed out. one time I even had a glass of water and sit up, then said i could walk and was on the floor again. Eventually the paramedics came. I stood up to walk to the ambulance and then i was on a gurney being wheeled in. All together, I passed out im told 13 times that night. Each time immediately regaining consciousness once i was on the ground. The funny part is while everyone else was upset, I wasn't worried at all... Because of course, I didn't remember passing out. After i was in the ambulance, I never passed out again, ever. Likewise, I'd never passed out before then either. Came out of freaking nowhere and left just as mysteriously.
Same. Its a weird feeling. Hot flash , cold chills, the feeling you want to vomit then your out for maybe 10 seconds. I have a outbreak every 3 to 6 months and it started in Feb 2017. Dr said since its not too repetitive he doesnt recommend meds at this time. Always happens to me on weekends for some odd reason and after a couple of days its gone . I just stay home and drink lots of water and relax and wear oxygen as my COPD intensifies it. Almost has a eurphoric out of body feeling yet still spooky.
I have vasoagal this started when I was middle school. The second time it happened it was worst. I could not see or hear the doctor. The next thing I knew I was on a floor
I ruptured my spleen two years ago and witnessed the syncope first hand. I tried to stand up after a big fall and my body shut itself down, It's actually an incredible defensive reaction of the body. It kept me from moving and messing up my body even more. Thank you Vegal nerve, even though you are the weirdest feeling I've ever felt.
this happened to me, 5 days ago, on Thursday, June 22, 2017. I work at a hospital, but this was not the diagnosis there. The diagnosis there was ' we can't find anything wrong with you, besides dehydration and stress, you can drive yourself home. ' The next day, I went to my Dr and he listened to everything that happened and everything that was done and said and he agreed with it all, except he said dehydration and stress was only part of it. Then he told me it was Vago Vagal. He said it's the 90% cause of people fainting, and it can happen to anyone between the ages of teenage years and 100 years old and beyond. He said it's actually normal. Until THAT day, I had never heard of it. We learn something new every day, weather we realize it or not. Have a good life.
I have a sensitive vagus nerve, but I know my warning signs. I get lightheaded, tunnel vision, temperature changes (gets unbearably hot), and feels like it gets hard to breathe. My triggers is abdominal pain, so anytime I have gas buildup or really bad cramps, I almost pass out every time.
This is crazy and is what I think I have. I’ve been passing out at least once a year for the last 5 years. My most recent faint was a month ago at the outlets while I was shopping and was so embarrassing yet every time I go to the hospital they say nothing’s wrong with me and i’m just dehydrated. But honestly having this is so annoying I feel scared to even go anywhere because I fear I’m gonna faint.
Hello there. I loved the video. I have vasovagal syncope & I have fainted numerous times due to blood being taken and right after surgeries when the anesthesia wears off. I am a bodybuilder & just recently at the gym I got up too fast doing a leg machine and I almost fainted so I laid down and put my feet up. I know what to do but I was surprised it happened at the gym. It's always happened in a medical setting and it hadn't happened in a while so I was surprised. I've ALWAYS gotten dizzy as I got up, even as a little child, but how can I cope with this as a bodybuilder; lifting heavy weight, pushing heavy and cardio? Thanks
increase salt intake, specifically in water. I recommend Celtic Sea salt, a pinch, and then 5 drops of humic and fulvic acid in 32oz a water a day. Increase this by 16oz when you work out. I have been chasing the same issue for years, and recently had my 'ah-ha' moment in a tilt table test. Same darn thing would happen to my in the gym too. I always just drank plain water to re-hydrate.
Hi Dr. Oller, My name is Ashley and I suffer from Vasovagal Syncope and I have a question that I've not been able to find elsewhere. My Vasovagal is triggered by injuries, pain, and needles and even just thinking about certain stuff will make me light headed but not enough to make me faint. My question pertains to pregnancy. My husband and I want to have children one day, but I'm worried about the pregnancy process and how my vasovagal will affect me and a child if I fainted during delivery.
Same I had to get surgery and they had to put me to sleep first and then inject the drugs because for my first surgery I flipped out and almost punched the nurse and my back muscles tightened and I wasn't able to move
Great and informative video. Explains my daughter's reaction to withdrawing blood. However, you did not mention anything about convulsions. Can convulsions be apart of vasalvagal syncope?
If you guys wouldn't mind sharing, what causes yours to flare and make you pass out? After talking with a lot of doctors, and honestly a couple of shrinks, they came to a frightening conclusion about why mine bothers me. I had been running a company in a poor, impoverished part of the south and in 2016 when things started to get heated politically, I had some crazy altercations with employees and terminated employees as they saw me as the bad guy being a northern liberal. After a pair of attempted murders and an attempted mass shooting at my workplace, I started developing this problem. While they say essentially PTSD is a part of it, they have actually identified my trigger as...well...Trump. Now I know people can have this problem with things like blood or doctors, but I was wondering if anyone with this problem has it flared up by something societal like that? Or even, does anyone have it flare from specific PTDS triggers and memories? I had once heard a case of someone who had it flare when they endured extreme physical pain, and rather than feeling the pain and going through it, they would just pass out. I am always wanting to learn and listen from people with this condition even if it is not directly related, please feel free to share.
me too . ive had it since I was 13yrs old . im now 43 . I get severe excruciating pain in my abdominal area which makes me feel like I have to go to the bathroom . once I enter the bathroom. I always end up on the floor . my mom who has been a registered nurse for 47yrs witnessd it once and said I was seizing and my arms became restricted as I was coming to I said to my mom i cant feel my legs . it was scary. ive had every test known to man and according to the doctors im as healthy as a horse 😂❤ . I just live with it . godbless you
Meg G it’s a reflex, there isn’t a lot you can do to treat overreacting nerves. You can only help yourself when you detect the symptoms and react accordingly. Lie down and lift your legs up...
@Meg G you can do few specific yoga practices to reduce it's reoccrence... I'm also doing these yoga practices as suggested by my doctor and these are really effective. One patient of my doctor seen effect of yoga as he suffering one episode in 10-15 days now these episodes are reduced to one episode in 30 days and he is feeling better now. Hope this will help you.
Excellent video, thank you. I just had a syncope and spent several days in the hospital getting tested for all the things mentioned in the video. The Table Tilt Test finally nailed the diagnosis.
This is just the worst, it always happens at school on the topic of blood, especially blood vessels! I start with the sweat then loss of hearing finally loss of vision. Usually it goes after a few seconds and closing my eyes seems to quicken recovery.
I can’t change my own earrings because I have this, last time I tried I almost passed out. But when I got my cartilage pierced I passed out. It’s so annoying
I have ear piercings and get this same feeling when I change my cartilage piercing that over 6 years old at this point. Forget about getting a blood test 😫
When my visiting nurse came to teach me how to use my PICC line for the first time I noticed she had a lot of air in my line I think I heald my breath for so long from anxiety while she started my infusion I started to get dizzy I told her I was goimg down I knew I was goimg to pass out she first tought nothing ofmit but when she couldn't get my BP she picked me up amd put memon the flood....she had no idea what to do while I was out cold she couldn't get a blood pressure or pulse ox. She tried cpr,lol and neat on my back for some reason when I woke up her and my mom were crying...I asked if I died lol that made rhem cry more lol Thankfully I have had my leg amputated so hopefully I'll never go through that again as I had 150 operations and 6 picc lines over the 17 years amd they all clotted which to me is terrifying. ....fighting ostio and 21 other bacteria ultimately getting MRSA in the operating room amd sepsis. My prosthetic gave me a new life. A tip my doc gave me if I ever have another attack is to press down on the eyelids as it stimulates everything.
I found this video really helpful and informative. I have suffered from this condition since my teens and I am now 76! So often it is not properly diagnosed by health professionals while others understand it immediately. I have found that lying horizontally is the best way to prevent losing consciousness, though of course this is not always possible and this can lead to falls and injury. Fortunately my episodes tend to be widely separated, sometimes by several years.
Had this last night as I was standing for near 2 hours playing Table Tennis. I just finished and was leaning against the wall when I saw blurry and dropped to the floor. Went to the hospital and said that it was VasoVagal Syncope. No treatment, nothing serious. But now I have to tell everybody there that I am ok.
Wonderful video! I would add one point - it can be VERY psychologically traumatizing. There are people who totally avoid medical care because of this and end up suffering from otherwise treatable conditions. So, harmless...not so harmless in reality. Having this in reaction to needle exposure is what is now often referred to as a panic attack for lack of a better word. Dr. Martin Samuels of Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston calls this 'fast fear' which is as good a term as any at the present moment. It is the part of the fear response that hits the autonomic nervous system and can happen with or without the 'slow' fear - the actually mental feeling of fear. I would suggest, if this happens during blood draw, to test for serum dopamine sulfate. It may be related to pseudopheochromocytoma, Page's syndrome, and the reason why developing panic disorder is sometimes a side effect of Parkinsons disease patients being treated with LDopa. In any event, two medications that can prevent this are Xanax and nitrous oxide at sufficient dosages. Please, do not underestimate the psychological impact and future avoidance behaviors this can have on some people.
It fades with time. I've been rushed to the hospital 3 times due to it, the most recent resulting in a serious concussion involving temporary memory loss. After over 2 years I'm still remembering things about my early childhood. A couple years ago listening to this video would have knocked me out less than a minute in. Now, I got to about 3 minutes before stopping myself. I wouldn't have lasted the whole time, but it is definitely improvement. *It will get better, I promise you that!!*
My stomach hurts during the attack. My vision blurrs and I see white spots. I try to stop this but my body continues to shut down. Had this attack when I had blood drawn and luckily it didn't proceed to passing out. The needle didn't hurt but for some reason I still felt extreme dizziness.
Great and informative video. Explains my daughter's reaction to withdrawing blood. However, you did not mention anything about convulsions. Can convulsions be apart of vasalvagal syncope?
Thank you for sharing this. I had an episode of syccope when standing at parade rest for a change of command ceremony while in formation. Lots of people in the gym, standing for a long time, couldnt shake the quesiness even while bending my knees and flexing my leg muscles. Had to drop out of formation or would have literally droppe to the floor. Very embarasing. They sent me to the ER, had numerous tests;CAT scan, EKG,echo cardio etc. and was found to be healthy.Prescribed lopresor. Now that I am going for a flight crew position, I was subscribed IC Losartan-HCTZ. Have a Class III physical coming up so hope it works out.
i am 24 weeks pregnant and i experienced vasovagal syncope when i went for my glucose test, they didnt draw the blood yet, I was just nervous at the process itself
I've had this all my life. Very strange for others but very normal for me. One trigger I found, is standing up too fast from a hot bath. I fell and hit my head on the toilet. Ouch. If you have this disorder, be extra careful and learn your triggers. Good luck.
I just got diagnosed with Vasovagal Presyncope. For over ten years, when out at the shops, I would occasionally start to feel really warm and breathless. My vision would change and start to turn grey, then the dizziness and a feeling like cold blood running from the back of my head and neck would start. This "cold blood" would then radiate down my arms equally to the tips of my fingers, alongside a tingling feeling, all the while, I am getting closer to passing out. I have adapted my response to be on the ground before I fall onto it. People only die of this by not lying down and then hitting their heads as they fall. The whole episode lasts roughly 30 minutes and is awful. I have never passed out, hence the name Presyncope, you get the prolonged build up but don't faint. That might seem better but it is like a kind of conscious torture, not good. My Vagus nerve is triggered by bowel problems, rarely in the bathroom though, more digestive. Very hard to isolate exact triggers so I still get numerous attacks a year. Lately, I had to call for assistance as I was getting over 10 attacks a day, even while lying down flat! That is when a doctor diagnosed my condition. Now I am less worried about the cause and the prognosis. No treatment required, just deal with it, lay down with legs up is best.
I had my first experience with this disorder last week in a store; ended up in an emergency room. I am now learning about this condition; and hope that was a once in lifetime occurrence.
Happened to me yesterday, Don't know the actual cause of the trigger, I changed my workspace 1 wk back as working on laying down on the bed and laptop on my thigh, yesterday i went for Urination ( bladder completely empty ) came to room, had few sips of water, suddenly after few seconds started pain on my stomach , pain was there for 15 to 20 secs, then started all the symptoms mentioned in this video, after sometime, around 30s or a mins, became normal and still was feeling the tiredness, consulted doctor and and he suggested to take ECG after checking Blood pressure, then he told all looks good, but BP is bit low now, then told it is, VasoVagal Syncope, then he told it might be because of the pain occurred due to gastritis, and due to this pain VasoVagal syncope, Prescribed Gastritis tablets and asked to drink salt soda. Now Looks good, but still the fear. After seeing this video some relaxation. And the same thing happened to my Dad 2 to 3 times and the last one was 2 months back.
My husband had this. We found out it was due to a congenital defect of the aorta heart valve. He had open heart surgery and they replaced the valve with a bovine valve. He is in great health now. Surgery was a complete success.
i have been diagnosed with vs 25 years ago when i was 20 and fainted dr office after they took blood, woke me with smelling salt heard her say medics were on the way fainted again, the medics attempted to insert iv fainted again, they all thought it was drug related, i never did drugs in my life, ended up on heart patient floor of hospital had over dozen tests done in 24 hours, found nothing wrong, my follow up dr visit dr diagnosed me with vs, ever since certain triggers cause me to become presynope, and 99% of the time i faint, it is an awful feeling, worst feeling ever, no cure, only to avoid triggers, but older i get more things have been triggering my vs, fainted 5 times within 7 hours last month when had stomach bug, the vomiting is one of my many triggers, i always make sure to stay well hydrated, eat healthy, dont drink alcohol, dont smoke, dont do drugs, exercise regulary, these are all tips many specialists gave me to limit the episodes
I had many people say...oh he is just faking it. Really?? Sure I wanted to be forced to quit working, lose my home, car and force me to file bankruptcy due to owing 40k in medical bills (due to my employer cutting off my health insurance). Sadly people have no clue unless they are in our boots or are medical physicians.
Jessi Nowack, A.K.A. Nowacking, an actor known for Misty from Pokémon Abridged & the fan voice for Vinyl "DJ Pon 3" Scratch from the fan My Little Pony videos has Vasovagal Syncope. I'm afraid she could die. I love Nowacking so much, she means so much to me like a best friend, & a sister. She's one of my favorite actors.
a few minutes ago i was at a store near my place of stay. i missed a step and sprained my ankle badly. i didnt fall however and quickly gathered my self. but few moments later my senses went crazy. vision started becoming blur, my forehead and eyes became cold and back felt very strange. i didnt lose consciousness. it was hard but i scaled three floors and am now back on in my room. it was only after i rested my back against bed that i can see normally. first time fainting, well almost! 1530 GMT 18/05/22
I always know when I am going to faint. The arcs of light. Peripheral vision blacks out. Breathing is slow and I almost have to force myself to breath more. I just lie down and get my feet above my heart. It fades away in a few minutes then. Once you know the warning signs, just get your head lower than your heart and wait. It's embarrassing, but it's better than falling down and busting your head because the faint went full cycle. Good luck!
dammit I am always good at handling pain and I have no fears of seeing blood or taking needles but today after blood test I went deaf and felt exteremly dizzy.. I was like what the hell!! never had this problem before until now.
My triggers for fainting are tattoos and eye contacts that distort the color of one’s eyes. It’s happened to me a couple of times at work (I’m a grocery cashier) and it’s very embarrassing because it does create a scene.
Forgot i had my videos set on x1.25 and im sitting here thinking "how the hell does he expect anyone to take this in with so little time to process??" Lol
I am 25 wks pregnant and have been having reoccurring syncope episodes and they have ruled out my heart despite my tachycardia and told me it could be due to panic attacks?!?? It just doesn't make sense to me...yesterday was the worst, I passed out while I was driving. I woke up propped up on the median in the road... now I can't drive which I understand but I just wish they could figure out what's wrong with me.
aquala bush have your doctors ruled out vena cava syndrome? Most pregnant women experience this, but it is worse in some people. Try laying/sitting on your side for most of your time spent, or let others lay you on your side when you have lost conciousness. This often helps. Avoid laying on your back or sitting slouched or leaned backwards. Remember to drink enough fluids and drink soup for extra electrolytes. Hope you can figure out whats wrong! Oh, and dont give up trying to get answers. Dont let anybody tell you something isnt wrong when obviously there is.
My partner has this but the bad version of it. He had one this morning on the way to work (he had a driving test also today) his is where his valve to his heart over works and it gives up until his heart stops. He will basicly die for up to two minutes and then the valve starts working again. When he has one of these faint attacks I have to lift his legs in the air so the blood still flows. Last time he had one was (apart from this morning) two years ago when I found out I was pregnant and going back to collage after term. He fell through a glass door and was gone for nearly a minute and a half. He's had this (weirdly) since he met me in 2009, he jokes about it and says his heart skips a few beats. There was a time where he first started his job and he hasn't actually met his boss before, about a month in he met his boss for the first time and they were fixing cannel boats and he fainted in the water and nearly drowned, its scary knowing there back because like the doctor we saw he said he would grow out of it. 😞
hey I am an intern doctor now, and ive been getting these vasovagal syncope attacks since I entered medical school. initially I thought it was only blood but ive come o realise its not only blood and abcesses but any body fluid! I try so hard to fight it but the nwct hing I know am on the floor! so ive topped trying to fight I but during surgery I am always sitting and standing sitting and standing and u know its really affecting my medical career. in a sense I love surgery the most but I feel I cant specialise in it because of this also OBS nd Gynea. it also affects ur peers trust in u as a dr, I feel helpless and incapable and its affecting my self confidence. I am smart in theory but in practice am always on the floor or excusing myself! if there is anyway I could treat this I am willing to do anything just to make it go away.. thank u so much in advance
May I ask you how this affected your medical career and what specialty you're going into now? I'm asking because I am a medical student and I just found out that I suffer from Vasovagal syncopy
Tilt table for me= hr-0, bp 0/0 and a nurse that quit the second time they did one. Midodrine, toporal, ssri all onboard. Got pacemaker as a souvenir. $25,000 of machinery that I can't even drive to work. 🤘
I have Syncope... I would like to be a doctor someday that talks and teaches people about it and what it is. What doctor degree would I look up and such?
My Syncope is controlled; I havent had one in a long time :) The last time I had one that was real bad was on Memorials day of 2011 I think.. and I blacked out to the point where I saw a bright light and couldnt hear or see anything. - I have Fainting spells which is like linked to Anxiety.. because I wouldn't be able to go in Stores like Walmart or Safeway because I'd end up feeling light headed and sick.. to where I'd pass out so I was Always nervous to go in the store :/ - but I get what you mean... I dont think Ill be a doctor then. I thought about being a Vet Assistant.. you think I can do that??
Thank you for this information sir. Sir my dream is to become Doctor , But when I saw wound of some one or blood just I passed out . Plz give me a solution.
Diagnosed with Syncope Tilt Test Positive, but never passed out. Fears & Light Headedness only. Every doctor talks of fainting but no one discusses fear & other symptoms.
My brother was diagnosed with this condition and he currently plays basketball for LSU but he recently started having these episodes and the doctor at the school said his prognosis was that it could be career ending is that true? and if not what are the treatments or medications he could use in order to continue to play?
There is a wonderfully supportive community on Facebook for this condition called "Living with Vasovagal Syncope". Please join if you or a family member has been diagnosed. There are many things about this condition that are unknown and it helps to talk to others. Also, don't put your head between your knees, if you feel an episode coming on! You could injure yourself. Instead, lie down with your legs up against a wall. This will help the blood flow away from your legs and back to your head.
Hi, I´m from mexico, city and my daugther has been diagnosed with vasovagal syncope. I have been read some articles about VVS. That events happened in april 29th.My question is the following: Is it common VVS in children of 2 years old? How much danger is VVS? Thank you?
...but the regular anticipation/anxiety that is associated with the preparation always triggers a vasovagal episode. Very frustrating. I do several small canyon hikes every year so I know it encompasses almost all the trigger situations--excessive heat, physical stress, extended time on your feet, physical pain if you get blisters, nausea, etc. I'm always prepared with plenty of water electrolytes, advil, and the like, but is there anything additional to help me?
Growing up as a kid I used to faint while pooping on the toilet. I would wake up on the floor. These episodes became more and more rare as I went through life. Today it got me, was in the toilet and tried to make it to my room when I started feeling it was coming, but fained 4 steps from my bed and opened my forehead and my nose. Never had it this bad. But this one is also after a few years of no fainting. My head hurts now lol.
Can someone please help me My daughter was diagnosed with this But in her case she jaw locks her teeth and urs only when she has to vomit.please help me know what is wrong with my baby.
When I cough really, *REALLY* hard and empty my lungs of all air, I go into a trance-like state where I lose all motor control. I have mild twitching tremors, and I sometimes make a strange whiney sound. I actually fell out of my chair and onto the floor once. I am aware of what has happened afterwards, but I'm only mildly aware when it's happening. Also, I have high blood pressure. I hope it's not a precursor to a heart attack or stroke.
Ten years of grand mal seziures that started at age 35; diagnosed with epilepsy, medicated yet still had seizures. I met with so many specialists. Finally met with a cardiologist who induced a tilt table test in which a seizure was induced within five minutes. Diagnosed with "vasovagal syncope" and low blood pressure -- I took a salt tablet daily to increase my BP; gained about 20 pounds that increased my BP -- no seizures. Life changing! I'm convinced my seizures happened when I was overheated, under-hydrated due to low BP.
I am going to my electrophysiologist tomorrow to discuss a new treatment that he has been doing with about an 80% success rate - where he first uses an ultrasound of the legs to see if the veins are "leaking" (which mine are). I'm sure there is a more "doctorly" term for it! LOL If the leaking veins are the peripheral veins and not the primary veins, he can seal off the peripheral veins, thereby forcing the blood to stay in the upper part of the body and not pool in the lower legs.
Hi Dr Carol, my Tameka Fuller is my 5year old daughter fainted this morning at school. And I took her to doctor! n she told me that my daughter have vasovagal syncope it's her first time fainting.wen I got home I did a research where I saw your video and began watching it.
I've recently been diagnosed with vasovagal syncope, but I've never actually fainted because of it (except during the table tilt test). All of my other heart related tests came back normal, showing I have a strong heart. The only thing I can guess is the cause is being on my feet a lot, as I drink a lot of water. I do already take blood pressure meds and am diabetic (metformin). Do you think that going to the gym and riding my bike (fairly long rides) will keep my blood flowing correctly?
Thank you for giving me a bigger understanding of my condition . I have a history of syncope and they can't figure out the cause of it but I do have a pacemaker .
Just know the triggers and signs and symptoms of vasovagal episodes. I yawn a lot days before, usually around menstruation. I'm 50 I've had several since turning 40. It's debilitating. One day, I had three in a row, which broke me out in a sweat and vomiting each time. Hours between each episode. Needless to say I was in bed or hot bath the rest of the day. A hot bath helps me. It calms my vagus nerve I assume. It does help. I also take Meclizine or motion sickness pill to Layman. Which helps any nausea or vomiting. It's over the counter. I usually take a caffeine pills with it because that's what is in most migraine medicine. Doctors can't treat this. Learn relaxing techniques. Destressing is key. Stress raises cortisol levels and that leads to heart disease and fatty liver.
Its very annoying. Just emberessing really. Even with no harm done, i just dont like being treated like im dying because i fainted. Really this is my biggest issue in life lol.
I just fainted today during class :( was hoping this wouldn't happen at school since it hasn't happened since last year. I've had it since I was young when the first time I fainted I fell and hit my head on the cupboard but I couldn't feel it even after i woke up.
Had this problem for about 2 years now, was having constant crysis (like 2-3 a week). Didn't faint, but felt terrible, afraid, and had hypothermia in many cases. I'm curious as to why isn't hypothermia listed as a symptom anywhere. Body temperature (armpit thermometer) goes as low as 34ºC. Cold as hell, to the point of cracking my teeth.
I’ve had vasovagal syncope many times in hospital. When i see people in pain or bleeding. Or the specific smell which is common in hospitals makes me pass out for a minute.
iv been told its pots, however It turned out I have lymphatic filiariasis. I have fainted with no warning, but usually it is this, with a very full feeling, and tachycardia. feels like my heart is flopping like a flat tire. Im finding Im having a problem keeping magnesium, and I am very anemic. microcidic anemia, and stage2- 3 lymphadema. my dog is now predicting a faint. I can cause it with a hot shower, or by walking up hill on a warm day. usually violent vomiting, and lost of bodily functions.
I have had spells of fainting all of my life. First time I can remember fainting I was 6 years old. Just had a lengthy dental procedure. I walked out into the waiting room to be with my Mother. She said I was as "white as a sheet". I remember feeling like I was walking on foam rubber, seeing arcs of light and colors, peripheral vision blacked. Again, at 7- bicycle crash. Continued on into adult hood. Sight of blood sometimes. Sexual arousal. Stress... always something stimulating. It's bizarre.
This is what I've been told that I have. The doctor said that at least I get the warning signs, which for me is extreme hot flash with clammy cold skin. It's awful. I have been experiencing these since I was a little girl. My body temperature does this all day and night. I'm never comfortable for any given period of time. When I do pass out, which is not often I get the ringing in my ears followed by a loss of vision.
After 5 (yes, FIVE) ambulance/ER visits in the last 3 weeks, I am praying this is an option for me! Have you heard of this procedure? Pros/Cons? I'm sure there is a medical term for it but don't know what it is. The doctor's name is Dr. Sawar in Florida Hospital, Tampa.
I get loud tinnitus when this happens. Every other sound goes away but the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
golgi apparatus me too
Agreed
Same! Like a heart monitor when somebody is dying
I don’t usually get that. I just can’t hear anything
Holy crap i thought that was just me!!
@@ctxbikergirl9110 Yes it definitely got worse as I got older. I now immediately try to lie down if I have severe pain.
I have the same problem what can i do to not have this problem?
THANK YOU DR WERY IMPORTANT INFORMETION
This condition makes going to the doctor even more unpleasant.
Omg seriously
@@santaitwasntme7373 it's the worst
Exactly I was diagnosed in March with pots syndrome as well
I have been having this for a few years. only actually fainted once, only because I know the signs.
same here. I know to grab something cold and quickly put it over my face
OMG SAME!!! I'm glad im not the only one!
i have this its the worst D:
Chloe I have it too. It's the absolute worst
Betas Animal AJ I passed out from it
Betas Animal AJ same here man

Bro feels like you are about to meet God. Had it twice in one day last week wound up in the ER
this happened to me, 5 days ago, on Thursday, June 22, 2017.
This is pretty much the Mayo Clinic article word for word.
Yep
Yeah ikr
I have a sensitive vagus nerve, but I know my warning signs. I get lightheaded, tunnel vision, temperature changes (gets unbearably hot), and feels like it gets hard to breathe. My triggers is abdominal pain, so anytime I have gas buildup or really bad cramps, I almost pass out every time.
This video is very helpful, information complete and concise. I really liked it!!
I believe I have vasovagal syncope too. Just curious, do you drive regularly? I do, I'm always afraid it might happen when I drive.
I had one of these and whacked my head and got a concussion
this happened to me yesterday after getting blood drawn. ugh its the worstttt

Hi Dr. Oller,
My name is Ashley and I suffer from Vasovagal Syncope and I have a question that I've not been able to find elsewhere.
Every time I go to the doctors for blood pressure tests, blood tests or anything involving needles, I will hit the deck, guaranteed!

I have vasovagal syncope, with seizures. I find that this video was very informative. Thank you.

I just live with it . godbless you
how do you mean treatment is not necessary? How would you like to pass out while you examine your patience. Would that be okay for you?
I get it after some bowel movements.
this only happens i get shots in my arm
This is just the worst, it always happens at school on the topic of blood, especially blood vessels! I start with the sweat then loss of hearing finally loss of vision. Usually it goes after a few seconds and closing my eyes seems to quicken recovery.
thank you for making me understand what my little bro is going through.
It give with dizziness when you eat?
I have this and my fainting trigger is dehydration and it sucks 😒
I have syncope or is it presyncope ? Never fainted but do have dizziness & light headedness.
I was yawning when it happened to me today like an hour ago
It's a great video to know about this problem. I have it and I'm on blood pressure medication.
Just got diagnosed with it ...... don't want to believe there's no cure !...
Yes it is true. There is no cure. You just take salt tablets & keep hydrated
My stomach hurts during the attack. My vision blurrs and I see white spots. I try to stop this but my body continues to shut down. Had this attack when I had blood drawn and luckily it didn't proceed to passing out. The needle didn't hurt but for some reason I still felt extreme dizziness.
My triggers are anything medical. Whenever I go to the doctor to give blood or even the doctor talking to me about a my body I pass out.
Kristine Gemza I’m 24 weeks too and there about to do the same with me 😣 I hope I don’t pass out
I've had this all my life.
I have it every day
Happened to me yesterday,
Don't know the actual cause of the trigger, I changed my workspace 1 wk back as working on laying down on the bed and laptop on my thigh, yesterday i went for Urination ( bladder completely empty ) came to room, had few sips of water, suddenly after few seconds started pain on my stomach , pain was there for 15 to 20 secs, then started all the symptoms mentioned in this video, after sometime, around 30s or a mins, became normal and still was feeling the tiredness, consulted doctor and and he suggested to take ECG after checking Blood pressure, then he told all looks good, but BP is bit low now, then told it is, VasoVagal Syncope, then he told it might be because of the pain occurred due to gastritis, and due to this pain VasoVagal syncope, Prescribed Gastritis tablets and asked to drink salt soda.
Great video, have lived with syndrome for 40+ years. Figured out triggers, avoided them and haven't fainted in over twenty yrs.
Unfortunately my trigger is giving blood. Kinda hard to avoid that.
Could it associated with pulmonary hypertension? I was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension but the MD told me not to worry about it. What can I say…

Relax! It's not deadly in ANY way, it's just kinda scary, but not harmful at all!
a few minutes ago i was at a store near my place of stay. i missed a step and sprained my ankle badly. i didnt fall however and quickly gathered my self. but few moments later my senses went crazy. vision started becoming blur, my forehead and eyes became cold and back felt very strange. i didnt lose consciousness. it was hard but i scaled three floors and am now back on in my room. it was only after i rested my back against bed that i can see normally. first time fainting, well almost! 1530 GMT 18/05/22
My exhusband tried to kill me along with my brother Syed fawad and his wife misbah hafeez
My trigger for these was caffeine. Tea or Coffee on an empty stomach, mixed with heat, a few times I’d get dizzy and pass out on the floor.
Good luck!
If my friend laughs too hard she feels like she's about to black out. She says everything goes dark

dammit I am always good at handling pain and I have no fears of seeing blood or taking needles but today after blood test I went deaf and felt exteremly dizzy.. I was like what the hell!! never had this problem before until now.
My triggers for fainting are tattoos and eye contacts that distort the color of one’s eyes. It’s happened to me a couple of times at work (I’m a grocery cashier) and it’s very embarrassing because it does create a scene.
I wish you would've mentioned memory loss during the event.

you must inform the driving agency that provided your licence of any seizures
hey I am an intern doctor now, and ive been getting these vasovagal syncope attacks since I entered medical school. initially I thought it was only blood but ive come o realise its not only blood and abcesses but any body fluid!

I came here because of Howard Stern pronunciations of Brents condition.
I have Vasovagal Syncope as the sight of blood or smell. I want to be a PA. Is there a way to overcome it so I can treat patients?
I have this but always right before it happens I have really bad stomach pains
I have had spells of fainting all of my life. First time I can remember fainting I was 6 years old. Just had a lengthy dental procedure. I walked out into the waiting room to be with my Mother. She said I was as "white as a sheet". I remember feeling like I was walking on foam rubber, seeing arcs of light and colors, peripheral vision blacked. Again, at 7- bicycle crash. Continued on into adult hood. Sight of blood sometimes. Sexual arousal. Stress... always something stimulating. It's bizarre.
I hear very loud and clear police sirens when I faint and as I wake up, then it fades as I get oriented
