Honestly one of the final good moments of Flander's character, its up there with the "put on a happy face" scene. POssibly the last true genuinely touching moment of the show in general.
Rachel Jordan: In a motel room in Delacroix, I was drinkin' like a Dartmouth boy, And thinkin' 'bout the wrong turns that I took. Well, I woke up on the puke-green floor, And opened up a dresser drawer, Lookin' for a bottle, But instead I found a book. Lenny: She's talkin' about the bible. Carl: So? She's good-lookin', shut up. Lenny: You shut up. Rachel Jordan: A book about a man, A book about the dude who lives above, A book about a man, Who drives a pickup full of sweet sweet love. Now, if you think He doesn't care, Or maybe that He isn't there, It's not too late To see how wrong you are. So when your soul has gone astray, Just let God be your Triple-A, He'll tow you to salvation And He'll overhaul your heart.

The difference between season 11 era and 20+ era is the 20+ era would not help themselves from making some jab at Christians. Here they just wrote a song true to the character.
I always thought this song was a really wholesome way to let people who were struggling with their faith know that God has not abandoned them, and it's funny that it came from the Simpsons.

Season 11 really felt like it could have been the final season A lot of character arcs were summarised, especially this episode with Ned's faith and good nature being challenged one last time in such a brutal manner only to pull through yet again
Contemporary Christian music maybe, but some old gospel music is some of the best music I've heard. I remember walking past the Shiloh Baptist church in my hometown as a kid and hearing the people singing great rhythmic catchy songs and thinking ' every church I've been to is dull compared with that one ' . I never went there because I just assumed you had to be African American to go there . "This is a love song about a dude I met in a sleazy motel"
*gasp*
"A dude called God"
*ooooh*
does that indicate that Ned and Rachel had already met, in a sleazy hotel and Ned thought *he* is that dude, she wants to sing about?
Nope, they hadn't met yet.
Flanders is scandalized because she sounds like she's about to tell everyone about a one night stand.
I'm feeling just like Ned in this episode. A girl i used to be friends with doesn't want me anymore. So I'm a "widower"

@@kaldesyzdi595 that is a beautiful love story! Did you murder her or did she just die?

Season 11 was a legend compared to season 14 onwards.
S14 is when it fell
No, you’re completely right. Seasons 11-12 had some (very) deeply buried gems, before the show completely died.
