    Hi Rob,
    Wanted to say a heart-felt Thank-You! Very much enjoyed the video, and really felt like was out in the lot with you on a private tour of the collection. I think I could have asked questions until the sun really did set and we were left looking at the almost neon signs under the stamped metal. Will have one for the pinball room one day.

    I grew up in my dad (and granddad's) country store. In the 50's and early 60's we still used a 1920's visible gas pump. My early job was to keep the gas pumped up to the top...I once got in big trouble with my dad for attempting to keep it full while he was putting gas in a car...I have a nephew who restores cars, and I passed it and a large round HC Sinclair gas sign, on to him...always love to see all the old general store stuff. Thanks for your videos.

    What a great video on the evolution of gas pumps. The first pump that you showed where you had to use a bucket and a funnel to put gas into the car must have caused a lot of spills.
    Some pumps today have a tv screen that shows some of the days events, although sometimes I wished it had a mute button.
    I remember all or most gas pumps from the 1960's and 1970's only went up to a maximum of $9.99. When gas prices jumped up in price due to the oil embargoes in the 1970's, many stations had to quickly replace their gas pumps to accommodate the higher prices.

      @gaspumprob  11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! You are correct in saying that they had spills using the bucket. I remember reading that. At the very end of the video it ends on a modern pump with a tv screen like you mentioned. Thanks for watching and commenting. Rob

    On the farm we had a '20's 'visible' ten gallon pump for the tractors. The pump however was a pump handle that could be locked in the down position for security. I've pumped literally hundreds of gallons of gas through it....ten gallons at a time. My brother now has a pair of Skelgas pumps from (I thought the 50-60's) but they seem to be between the Blendomatic and the Exxon at the end of the row. But don't hold me to that for sure because I really haven't paid too close attention to them. What a fun video Rob !! Thanks for producing it for us to enjoy.

I know we poured a little slab and stubbed up some conduit so he could send power out to them. I used to know how many pumps to a gallon on the old pump out on the farm. Many a time I would make a game of closing my eyes and pumping then stop to see how close I was to the mark on the glass at 3 or 4 gallons. Ahhh..the memories. There's one style gas pump that was kind of like the last one you showed at your Ranch but it was bigger than what you showed and still a little different. I remember back in the 80s riding around with my cousin and his friend. She back in the eighties I was like 10 years old cuz I'm only 23 now hahaha my wife is just rolling her eyes at me. Anyway my whole point of it is reason the guys pickup truck and a guy got out short fueling up and they had this big window to look through at the gas station. But since this guy pulled in and parked in between the pumps and the gas station when do they can see him. So he pumped in about 5 gallons of gas. Hit the reset thing in the lever and pumping nother whatever amount of gas. I never forgotten that. Well anyway he would only pay of course for what it showed. It was customary thing to do was to pull forward from the pump so that the cashier could see the pump ⛽. You go in tell the cashier how much you got they look over your shoulder take your money 💰. And we wonder why they don't trust the public anymore. Ironically I can still pump first and go inside and pay for the gas at that very same gas station 🚉. Whenever I'm out his way. Their gas pumps is still about 20 years behind the times. They still had the black with white number dolls rotating for a display up to around 5 years ago. Yes I did tell the gas station owner what happened on a subsequent trip. He told me who did it. See he already knew this character. So the cops made him pay for the gas at they thought he had stoled. And he was banned from going to that gas station ever again. They were always the cheapest gas station around so he paid for his error several times over. Has Paul Harvey would say now you know the rest of story. By the way fabulous scenery behind you. Yoda build a house out there someday.

    • @gaspumprob
      @gaspumprob  Рік тому +1

      Interesting story and I remember hearing s story similar to this but the guy who did that never got caught . I guess he will pay for it in the end. That is neat that you still have a old school station like that and seeing the last pump in my lineup reminded you of that station and story. The clouds were beautiful the day we shot this video adding to a nice backdrop. Thank you

    • @CAROLDDISCOVER-FINDER2525
      @CAROLDDISCOVER-FINDER2525 Рік тому

      @@gaspumprob sure the clouds are beautiful and they gave a good backdrop but what you're missing out is what you see everyday. We don't see it everyday. Just like not seeing the trees for the forest or vice versa. Now I appreciate the beauty of the trees and which I live around or live in between. But I sometimes forget how other people may be out in Kansas really find those trees beautiful. Just like that little bit of a mountain behind you compare to the Rockies as you get farther into or maybe it was a bigger mountain inches farther back in the background than I realized. There's something majestic and beautiful about an item that large. I was out the Rockies one-time came out of a hardware store with a straw hat. They were on sale for $2.50 a piece or something like that. At tourist traps they would have been 20 something. And it's been a few years ago. I knew where our travels are going to take us I thought it would come in handy those hats and the boys liked them anyway. Anyhow I turn and look and go wow 😳. Several people around me look and said what what what what does a plane falling out of the sky what's going on mr. I should look at that mountain 🏔️. Everybody just kind of looked at me and said so what and a half a dozen people just kind of melted away. I was head over to the McDonald's back when I didn't care so much about my health I guess. My boys and me and these two people went over there chit-chatting sit down and I'll just gazing into wonderment of this mountain 🏔️. Where else could you get a 75% hamburger for $3 and have a million-dollar view!
      As far as the story about the guy still in the gas I think that's what you're referring to. They caught him and ironically they figure he stoled quite a bit. So if he did not want to go to jail. The deal was he painted gas station owner so much money. He did. And he was banned from that gas station and it was by far the cheapest one around. Okay I also gave your link to a guy almost to the East Coast. Because I figured you had the utmost authority that I know of gas pump ⛽. Funny thing is when I talk to text. I say gas pump ⛽ and the next word if I pause to let the microphone turn off. The next word that is suggest is Rob!I guess I've said gas pump Rob so much it just assumes that's the proper words to go together. Well you have a wonderful day we got up close to sixty years today and today is supposed to be I think around 50 so that's fairly warm for us this time of year. As a side note did you know that at the end of The run for the falcon. It was the Torino body style. 1970 or 71 is when the falcons cease to be produced in the United States owe it overlapped with Ford Torino.
