I'm starting to seriously pursue VO work, and your channel has been a great help. This clarifies a lot of things for me.

This was helpful and blessedly succinct. Thank you! For those of us who are complete newbies, I wish you'd demonstrated how to create the roll-off you discussed starting at 2:30. Prior to that, you showed how to boost or depress frequencies in wide or narrow ranges, but it wasn't clear how you created the pure roll-off - up from zero.
Again, I appreciate your clarity and brevity, all too rare on UA-cam.

Is it lunacy to attempt to build a separate EQ profile for individual characters in a book? Like, if I'm trying to sound like a woman, would I want to adjust my EQ to complement that vocal range? Then again if I'm trying to sound like a deep-voiced bruiser? Or maybe boosting that nasally range if I'm trying to sound like a weaselly character? No matter how I google search, I can't figure out if people actually do that, or if I'm an idiot.

Yes and no, I wouldnt change the EQ for voice pitch. Changes in environment like being far away etc can be done in part with EQ, but bumping all the low frequencies won't make you voice sound deeper, it will just sound muddy. It should be 90% in the performance, but you can use a very small touch of pitch shift to help. TLDR: you want pitch shift not EQ

Going to have to listen to this a few times. Great info, I just find it difficult to actually hear what is supposed to stay and what is supposed to go away.
But this did clear some of it up. I've tried the auto feature on nectar 3 and some other plugins but they just don't sound natural to me. I guess I need to learn it better so I can tweak it :)

For voice over I tend to tind the auto stuff to not be very good, I have tried nectar and it didn't do a very good job.

Some constructive criticism: lower the music volume in your videos, as it is right now it competes with your voice and makes the audio muddy

The backgound sound is distracting from the content.
