  • This engine came out of a late model 1957 Belvedere equipped with a “Police Pursuit Package”. Purchased in 1966 and I finally found time to build it. It utilizes the latest available muscle car engine parts. It has been built to stock 57 Fury specifications. Parts list, machine work, and spec data at the end of the video.

The Chrysler 318 series in my opinion started from 1957-91 from Poly to Magnum

Actually the poly design started in 55 but the design that lasted until 66 as a 318 poly started in 56 as a Plymouth 277 ci engine. In 55 thru 57 Dodge had a poly engine that ranged in displacement from 270 to 325 ci but it was a totally different engine. Plymouth used the same design in 55 only and was something like 250 ci. Back then the 4 different Chrysler cars had to be sized both in engine displacement & vehicle length based on their price range. Plymouth being the lowest price was the shortest & lightest & had the smallest engines. Dodge was next then DeSoto then Chrysler. Engine sizes were sized accordingly. It was a crazy setup.

Bob, was this a bone-stock rebuild? Or was it ' improved' a little? Second question: Where is the car and are you going to put the engine back in it? Thanks!

Should ask him if it has "FP-31" stamped on the block. If it does then it's an actual Fury engine that someone put a different intake on, but if it only has "P-31" or something else entirely then it's not an original '57 Fury engine.

The headers are for a 392 hemi and the adapter plates to mate the hemi headers to the poly are custom made by Hells Gate Hot Rods - see parts list at the end of the video.

Did they make a custom adapter for you or is it an item that they stock?
