My interpretation, for anyone who cares on this three year old vid (I just love the song so much) The boy has a sort of preconceived notion of this popular girl, he thinks there’s no way that she could be as perfect as everyone says/thinks she is, so he hates her. The hate is fueled by jealousy deep down, hence the name of the song. They meet through some circumstance, but since she’s been nothing but nice to him, he feels guilty being rude to her. He can’t accept that she’s actually just this bright, bubbly, talented girl. All the while, he’s slowly falling for her. Maybe something happens, she sort of loses her “spark,” she becomes more distant, maybe she has depression, and has been fairly good at hiding it for a while. He’s finally found this flaw in her, something to ridicule her for, but he just can’t do it. However, because of how he’s treated her, (sort of a tsundere way for a lack of better term I guess) he knows she’ll never return his feelings. So instead, he wants her to hate him, blow up on him and tell him off, because then he’ll have a reason to lose his feelings. But really, she’s this kindhearted girl who could never hate him, but she also won’t return his feelings. (Or maybe she does if you want a more wholesome happy ending to the song :))

I think they're friends, and this song is talking about the friendship they have. The boy is jealous of the girl because she is popular and good at singing, and he is conflicted with these feelings of jealousy and the feeling that maybe he likes her more than a friend so he acts strange and says things that might be a little bitter or mean (Don't be so conceited). She is aware that he is feeling this way, but because she does genuinely like him as a friend she continues to talk to him through his mental struggle, and thus also allowing him to continue to feel this way.

Perhaps this is obvious to some, but I think this song is about a tsundere boy who's in love with this really smart girl. Like, she's gets good grades and is at the top of her class. He's jealous of her, but he also likes her, so it's conflicting. He says mean things to her but at the same time has a crush on her and dislikes seeing her upset. He thinks he wants to see her suffer because he's jealous of her, but when she actually is hurting he feels bad and wants to make her feel better. He thinks she's showing off to him, but really she just happens to do well in school. He wants to do well, too, and feels like he can't catch up with her. When he says "please give it to to me baby" it could mean he wants her love but it could also have a double meaning of him wanting her to share her intellect with him. He wants her to help him get good grades, "a little bit's not cheating", he says. "Don't be so conceited." Unfortunately highly intelligent and quiet people are often mistaken for being aloof and conceited. Even if in reality they're just too shy to talk to others.

I hate when people decide to compare content creators of any kind, whether their content is art or music or even fucking shitposts at 3 AM. Like, it's so unfair and I'm sorry that Rachie and Juby have to go through that (even more sorry that it's likely to continue considering how ignorant people can unintentionally be of others' feelings) This was a beautiful cover and my sad mezzo voice is in second-hand pain over those highs haha, but Rachie nailed them like always!

I was scrolling through the comments, looking at different interpretations of the song, and was surprised that I hadn't left one myself since I swore I did. This amazing cover is what introduced me to my favorite song ever, and the singing & lyrics of this cover are just so great. I personally see the song as somebody degrading somebody else they're jealous of but still hold close, before trying to push them away for their sake, but whatever the interpretation it's a wonderful song about the imperfection of human emotions and how we care for one-another, and I want to thank you for your amazing covers of this and other songs, they've introduced a lot of people to different songs and given many more great ways to listen to them.

This kinda reminds me of middle school, buncha guys found out I was gay so they'd intentionally flirt to try and get me flustered and get all the other girls pissed off at me. Personally, I think you did this perfectly despite the pitch needed for the song. You've done countless songs with a higher pitch than your usual tone and always do it so well. Don't worry about the people comparing you to Juby. They're only doing it because of your duets with her. Which, honestly, are so damn good because of the uniqueness in both of your voices.
