People are saying that they're "disappointed" whats there to be disappointed about? Sure this is different from they're other albums, but you've got to remember. There's two sides on the same coin. They're showing us they're other side. I love this. But that's just my opinion.
i cant speak for everyone, but duality was my favorite album from them. i think uncontainable is good, but the other 2 songs that have been released so far arent very good. they dont sound good enough to be singles. the lyrics kind of suck, and the instrumental in the verse is just boring af. just my opinion though c"

Well, I'm disappointed that they gave up what made the group sound distinctive and original in favor of copy and pasted radio tunes. I loved SIO but the past album flopped for me when I was so excited for it.

Same, Set It Off is awesome and their music is very encouraging thanks to Set It Off i've been able to go through tough moments. Yeah it might sound weird that music can help you, but for me it isn't, and I hope Set It Off continues making music and encouraging more people. :) :)

wait, people are disappointed? come on. it's new. it's different. when a band shows diversity, it shows just how talented and hard working they are. it takes grit and creativity to break out of a reputation and do something new. and it's all for the fans! so we have more to listen to and can share this with any type of friend who needs it at the time. they worked really hard to make this for their fans. and personally, I'm honored and ecstatic that my favorite band has so many different types of tunes I can listen to. awesome job Set It Off! you're doing great.

It's because people get attached to the band and its members so when they're style starts changing and they start making music you you don't like you feel bad because you still want to support them. It's a good song but it's just not my thing.
Honestly, I love this. I've been here since Cinematics and I love both their old alternative sound and their new happy sound. I met Cody at a songwriting lesson thing at Warped, and he talked about how he was always writing music focused on the opinions of other people during his Horrible Kids/Cinematics time instead of for himself, which was what he told us was a lot better for writing. He said he wrote these songs for himself, and that he realized that you had to love your own music for people to love it too. He wrote Duality and the songs in Upside Down with that mindset, and loved it, and if he loves it and enjoys it then I'm in full support of it.
Sorry if it's hard to understand this, it's really hard for me to put what he said into words because he said it a few weeks ago and I haven't been able to remember his explanation that well (his was a lot better than mine).

Honestly, I'm a huge fan of both the dark and light songs in Set It Off, and it's amazing how well they can do both styles while still giving off that little je ne sais quoi that makes it what it is.

It upsets me that a bunch of people are saying they don't like the song or it's not as good as their older stuff. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I for one love this song because it's all about conquering anxiety which I have had to deal with. And from that perspective every line of this song rings true and is a motivation to not let it control me. And on top of all that it has an amazing beat that just makes me want to smile and get up and dance! So I respect not liking the song (I say extremely grudgingly), but at least understand that these guys aren't remotely losing their touch in regards to producing great music!

Set it Off really is such an astounding band. The fact that the members are not afraid to try different styles with their music. They're willing to try new things and experiment instead of having all the songs be of the same genre, although there is nothing wrong with that at all. It just makes this band so unique, especially how they add diversity to their music and pull it off so freaking well! Not everyone has to like this song, but it's really hard not to appreciate their uniqueness, talent, ability to adapt to a different style, passion, and hard work. Please keep up the beautiful work. You are my favorite band! :)
Set it off is best described by Panic!'s lyrics "Swear to shake it up, if you swear to listen." they are changing it up some, but we still love them, and there is still a message in the song, it doesn't matter how it sounds, you can like a band without having to like all the songs.

I honestly cannot get enough of this song. It makes me wanna get up and dance and run around, and I absolutely love songs like this. If you don't like this song just because it's not like Cinematics, then sucks for you. The guys worked hard on this song, and they were so pumped when it came out to see your reaction. I'm sure that they weren't expecting to see the people they thought supported them saying "I don't like that you're changing."
They write songs based on what they're feeling. Stuff like N.M.E, I'd Rather Drown, and Ancient History are songs that were written because they were mad or upset. Something New and Life Afraid were written because they were excited, or they were happy. Stop being like "They're changing." Because, yes, they're changing, but they still enjoy what they do, and that's what matters.

During my 8th grade, I thought that the only way I could be happy was if I looked like a skinny white boy with straight short hair and side swept bangs. That's kinda impossible for me because I'm already pretty skinny, but my hair is really curly. I decided to try and fit that mold by barely eating. It got so bad, that I was eating part of my lunch for breakfast, the rest for lunch, and I'd eat 1/3 of my dinner, and spent sometimes during class looking up the calories of certain foods. It started with wanting to go from 103 lbs to 100, but I couldn't stop. I got to 93 in around 1-2 months, and still thought that wasn't enough. I was also going to the bathroom a lot at school, and every time I went, I just thought about how I didn't have the guy parts that I should have. Somehow, I snapped out of it, and I felt so much better. I was doing just fine, and I felt like I was really a bisexual girl. I even came out to my family and they were supportive! However, around november 2019, (9th grade) I started to realize that me wanting to be a boy wasn't a phase, and now I'm actually starting to realize that I am a boy. Throughout all of this time, I've been hating myself so much, and I actually had two scratches on each arm, and they were shallow but still hurt a lot. I also had really wanted to just disappear from the world, and somedays still I feel like I should've died from certain things. This song has helped me out so much even though I figured out about it this year. It makes me think back to 8th grade and even this year, and how I could've been gone and wouldn't have been able to hear this song, but I stayed because I wanted to get better. This song really helps me to know that even with everything that's happened and with everything going on, I'm still here, and I really won't live my life in fear and sadness. I'm gonna live it how I want, whether that's exploring new parts of town, or just finding fun games to play online.
I mean, even if the song itself isn't the best SIO has produced, the lyrics are still really inspiring, which is what makes SIO so incredible

I understand that it can be frustrating when a band that you love changes their sound from what you loved in the first place, having said that though I also completely understand that as we get older we change. Think about it, how many of us are exactly the same as we were 5 years ago? I personally know I'm not the same person I was even a year ago. Change happens, and I'm so glad that these guys can do what they love, because it's clear that in doing so they have inspired so many people, myself included. I love their older stuff as well as their new stuff, and I think it's because you can tell that they genuinely and truly love what they do, and that type of energy is so infectious. ❤

It's about standing up against your fears and not letting them take control of your life. Depending on the person, those fears may be bullies or caused by bullying. For me, this song is about overcoming anxiety to live a happier life, since that's something I can relate to. The wonderful thing about music is that each person can hear the same song differently :)

i love set it off and i always will but honestly something new and life afraid have been kind of dissapointing. Their music style is changing a lot, and it doesnt sound pop punk anymore. I miss the orchestral sounds of cinematics. Duality was amazing as well. But the sounds of these new songs seem kind of techno, and i just miss the plain guitars and drums and no effects.

I was so hyped for a second when I saw this in my UA-cam feed, I miss their style from Cinematics. I liked a few songs from Duality but I was overall disappointed.
It's growing on me. Not going to say it's my absolute favorite. But I did enjoy it. I will forever support Set It Off, and I won't say anything negative.
I know people are going to get mad at me for this, but this song was a huge let down. Maybe if I found this song first and didn't previously follow the group for their orchestral-pop-punk sounds.... maybe then I would like the different sound. I hate to be that person who doesn't like change... I fully understand that groups change their sounds (I've defended a bunch over the years), but their lyrics used to be something you could tell were very personal to the group. Their sound used to be very distinct that I hadn't heard other groups doing. They were SET IT OFF, not just another group basing their sound off of what is on the radio today. This has so many Justin Bieber vibes, but I came here for SET IT OFF, the group I saw live two years ago and met and hugged, the group that brought me close with so many fans who became my friend (I'm still friends with 2 of them years later)... the group that made me into a dream catcher in one of my lowest years. Sorry if I'm sentimental and nostalgic of a group I once loved dearly, but their songs have become so basic and plain.... average

I'm no music critic by any means, but this is probably the first disappointing song made by you guys. It's not bad by any means, but it seems like it's severely lacking in the edgy energy that you guys had in all of your other songs. It almost sounds like you guys are holding back a bit, it may just be the way the sound is produced by it's certainly missing that intangible quality that really drew me into your music in the first. I still plan on buying the album since you guys are too awesome to not support, but I doubt I find much replay value in this track.

The lyrics in this are killer. I love the metaphors and the meaning behind this. A lot of people don't like their music but they have the choice to make the music they want to make. This album I already know is gonna be killer! Something New, Uncontainable. They shouldn't have to make the same music that they have before. Like I love everything they have done with their albums it all. It's a different sound but it fits where they are in their lives now. I just love it so much! I took Cody's songwriting class this summer at warped. He knows so so much about the craft of songwriting and being a good person while also being a great musician! I see comments about like "ppl say they're disappointed" and comments like "i'm disappointed" and I'm here like "LISTEN TO THE MUSIC, ITS THEIR OPINION"

I understand that people aren't a huge fan of this song saying that "there older stuff was so much better" but just like something new, they were basically telling us that they are evolving and trying something new (song reference :)) people evolve all the time and so does everything else, so we respect that and some may accept it, some may won't. And that's ok. All in all, love this song, love them. Set it Off, keeping doing what your doing
