Excellent reaction(s), thank you.🦊I think the two songs were separated quite early in the writing process - not necessarily for any other reason than 'The One' deserved to be a separate song in its own right.
As they toured they saw the foreign fans were learning Japanese to sing along with them. They were so touched they wanted to reciprocate and challenged themselves to learn a song completely in English. 'The One' is that song and it is effectively their love letter to the fans.❤
At the Wembley Arena concert in 2016 (which was also being broadcast live in Japan) the fans had pre-arranged that, at exactly the right moment in the song, they should all hold up their different national flags ... a real display of what a uniting force BABYMETAL are and just how many fans from different countries join together as The One.
'Tales of the Destinies' is "full on Prog Metal" ... as confirmed by Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater who was very impressed when he heard it.
Yes those lights were 55,000 neck braces with LED bulbs - just before you said "wow look at that shot..." you can see Su-'s look of wonder the first time she sees them all lit up (they were below the stage during the piano bridge and didn't see them all lit up then).

It's definitely an emotional one for us. These were 2 great versions of it, other important versions were:
    - Su and Moa performed it in an empty arena, after their 10 anniversary shows in 2021, with an announcement that the group was going on hiatus. (called Stairway to Living Legend)
    - And then as a bookend to that, they performed it on the First Take as the same scaled down version, but this time with Momo, and with the new costumes, as a sort of statement that they are back and whole.
Great react as always, and I look forward to when you reach Su's graduation stuff from SG!

You've pretty much got it right about The One. The fans are part of The One, but it isn't just the fans; it's Babymetal themselves, the Kami Band, the Fox God Crew, and everyone involved making the phenomenon of Babymetal happen. The One is everyone together.
The performance of TotD was at Tokyo Dome 2016, the biggest show Babymetal have ever done; 55,000 fans each night over two nights. There were two different setlists on the two nights, and TotD and The One closed the show on the second night. It was the one and only time they have every performed TotD live.
TotD is Babymetal's tribute to Dream Theater and specifically to the song Dance of Eternities, which is infamous for its time signature changes, so TotD similarly has many time signature changes. Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater was shown TotD by his son, and he gave it the prog metal seal of approval. Koba worked on TotD/The One for years before he was satisfied with it. At one point it was all one song, but somewhere in the writing process it was separated into two songs.
Yes, those are necklaces. Every person who attended the show was given one and they were remote controlled to light up during the performance. They did a similar thing at Legend MM with bracelets that they gave out.
There are two versions of The One, the original version which is half Japanese and half English, and the international version which is all in English. When Babymetal started touring around the world, they say that fans were singing along to the Japanese lyrics and they were touched that fans had learned Japanese to be able to join in, so they wanted to reciprocate by singing a song in English for the international fans.
The One sometimes gets hate from some fans who find it boring, but I love it. I've seen it live twice and I always get emotional during it. I got to see the PIA Arena performance live and it was extra special because it was the first time it was performed with Momometal, so it was culmination of her welcome to Babymetal. Not going to lie, I got a little misty eyed during the performance.

@@Hokkyo11 You know.. it's funny, when Babymetal at the end of 2015 heard: we are gonna do Tokyo Dome at the end of the 2016 world tour. The girls said: this is impossible, right ? it's to big, to prestigious, are we even even popular enough ? we aren't ready for that, we only released 1 album and haven't even finished the second album yet, how will it be received ? etc. Then that year, they released the second album, it did even better than the first album, they performed at a prestigious venue in the UK, their first big show outside of Japan, the first for any Japanese artist, went on US TV a few days after, they had a whole world tour of their own shows, did a bunch of large festivals outside and inside Japan, main stage, up to maybe 90 000 in the audience, then sold out Tokyo Dome so fast they added a second night and sold it out too. They performed at Tokyo Dome and said after words: ohh, you know, after this whole world tour, this actually feels smaller than we imagined. 🙂

@@Hokkyo11 what amazes me, they were 18, 17 and 17 when they performed at Tokyo Dome. And while that's crazy, I always go back to the dream was of the little girl, maybe 7 year old, Suzuka (Su-metal)'s dream was: to perform at the famous Budokan in Tokyo. Which is the 'Madison Square Garden of Japan', prestige and fame wise, this is that: "I want to be an astronaut" goal, she reached that at age 16, also 2 nights in a row, sold out. That famous venue in the UK I mentioned, that's Wembley Arena (12 500 and that's not Wembley Stadium, because that 80 or 90 000), that has a slightly higher capacity even than Budokan ! Anyway, can you imaging reaching your life goal at age 16 ? With your 2 friends of age 14 ? You even set a record of youngest average female artist at the famous venue. So what does Babymetal do ? At the end of that show, they announce their first world tour, like it's some kind of victory lap ! 🙂 The 3rd show on that tour was their first gig in the UK, at the Sonisphere metal festival, all metal heads, nobody knows how they will be received, but their Gimme Choco MV had gone viral and they sold out a small venue in the UK in minutes and so they are moved to the mainstage, in front of 60 000 people, their biggest audience even at that time. They knock it out of the park ! They make it look easy. Babymetal really is a the definition of 'a phenomenon', a unique event in music history of our current generations.

The One was dedicated to their fans, after they realized that their Fans worldwide started to learn japanese to follow the lyrics. Thi lead to a strong internationalization of their concerts Call outs had to be understood everywhere by everyone, so they were given in english, parts of the stage Dialog Su had to do in the local Country language and parts of the songs were texted in English.Things that were concidered unnecessary in the beginning since it was a project to renovate the japanese metal industry, nothing Else.. The One also had an unexpected cosequence. In one Show Yui propably showed sign of her long term injury they decided to simply rent the heavy lift capacity of one location, which allowed them to fly over the audience. This made such an impression that they started to develop crawlers for their bigger japanese shows, a portable stage with enough place for All dancing girls , most of the lighting and effects needed for the show, put it on a hydraulic table that drives on rails.

As always I love your reactions and experiencing your journey! I'm at the beginning of the video so I'll probably come edit to add more of my thoughts but .. so Dream Theater is my favorite band in history. Koba is a fan and they wrote this song as a tribute and yes, it sounds EXACTLY like a typical Dream Theater song, constant time signature changes and even the ragtime keyboard solo! I love watching the girls struggle with all the time signature changes haha so cute .. they talked about how much more difficult the dancing was compared to other songs.
Ahh yes, those gold Tokyo Dome outfits are still some of my very favorites! Some of that footage, especially during Tales, you can see how truly soaked with sweat they get, and no wonder why! They give it their all, every single song, every single performance. And yes, their theater skills are so evident.
And The One! You can hear a huge difference not only in the maturity and depth of Su's voice from 2016 to 2023, but her English singing improved a crazy amount!
And yeah, the movie quality stage production where they make the audience feel part of it is unmatched I believe by ANY music/theater act anywhere!
A fun thought, when they first started they had to borrow clothes for outfits and couldn't afford a backing band.
What a wild transition from those days to now, when they have the money to go absolutely insane for the production including hiring a drone racing champion to fly a drone for those perfect shots!
    It's all truly inspiring!!!

the structure makes much more sense if you're familiar with Dream Theater's _Scenes from a Memory_ .
interestingly enough, "scene 7" (which includes _Dance of Eternity_ ) is also broken up in to 2 songs, and also transitions in to a very uplifting vibe. 🤔
though, as far as TotD+The One are involved, from what i understand, it just got to be too cumbersome , so was just easier to split them.
it's neither the first nor last time Koba worked in tributes to other bands in to BM songs.
(btw, if you do ever get interested in experiencing DT's _SfaM_ , it MUST be experienced full album, start-to-finish -- it's a concept story album that can really only make sense when taken in whole)

Dream Theater's 'Images and Words' is one of BABYMETAL producer Koba's favorite albums.
Here's what he said about the development of 'Tales of the Destinies':
"Upon opening the World map of Metal music, this song as well really made me stop and consider how are we going to deal with the genre of Progressive Metal represented by such bands that I love such much like Dream Theater.
It took about 2 or 3 years to put it into the form that it is in now.
As you can imagine, there were a multitude of hardships to overcome to do so.
That goes for the performance side of it as well and we had to put it through countless, repeated changes to its arrangement to finally get it where it is now.".
Along with MIKIKO, their choreographer, they rehearsed a few different versions of the choreography for 'Tales of the Destinies'.
In an interview, Moa said that she can't even remember which version they ended up performing live.
BTW, The woman in charge of the aerial filming at BABYMETAL concerts is Mai Shiraishi.
She's a representative of the Japan national drone racing team.

Great reaction man! I don’t know why those two songs were originally one and then split into two but I guess it was because of the length.
TotD is probably their most prog metal song and was a tribute to Dream Theater. It has numerous time signature changes and feel changes in it, which is probably the reason why it was only performed live one at the Tokyo Dome show. Btw the two Tokyo Dome shows had 55.000 fans attending each night, 2 completely unique set lists (no song was played twice) and the most insane stage setup. And yes, the lights were neck-braces that were handed out to the fans.
Glad you got to see both versions of “The One”. They made the full English version in appreciation of the fans that learned the Japanase lyrics. I personally prefer the Japanese version tho, it just hits me different. And as you said, the song was created for the fans specifically. Which other band does those things?
The official mv for “The One”, as well as the special version “The One - Stairway to living Legends” are also totally worth watching! The latter was released after they finished their 10 Babymetal Budokan shows that celebrated their 10th anniversary and before they went into hiatus. ❤🤘🔥🦊 See you!
