I must admit Muse is only one of a few bands that I know that have pretty much absolutely nailed their debut album as most of the time it's incredibly difficult to make an extremely good first impression for your debut album as a lot of the time you're often quite inexperienced in the musical industry (which is of course very likely since you just joined). You have to be a very powerful strong band like Muse to pull something like this off.
The Great Sloth Lord I totally agree with you!! I wouldnt say they sound very nature on this album but it doesnt matter. It is great. Fun fact: It is considered as one of the worst debut albums... Probably cause its a bit too alternative and may were compared to Radioheads work..
+Tamás Kerekes Whoever made that sounds like they misspelt "best." However, I can get the Radiohead accusations from listening to a lot of them lately but it's not really that noticeable except for "Exit music (for a film)" which Muse does sorta have where Matt has that sorta "Thom Yorke" sound in the last chorus of the song. As for anything else, it's pretty hard to notice as both bands are very unique but that being said, there is a lot of "Radiohead" vibes in their first two albums but I believe that was just because it was popular back then in the British Alternative Rock scene and the band just being seen as a "Radiohead copy-cat." Which I think was explained really well in Muse's song "Falling Down" where no one in Teignmouth would appreciate them as a potential successful band and just was passed off as a copy-cat of Radiohead which at the time in 1997 and around there was incredibly popular especially following the release of their revolutionary album "OK Computer" which completely changed the whole Brit-Rock music scene and became widely regarded as one of the best albums of the 90s. This, if you were a very small band like Muse was (or probably Rocket Baby Dolls (Might've got the name wrong) in 1997-1998 would be severely disheartening when everyone that you see at the small bar gigs around Teignmouth, just thinks you're this "Radiohead copy-cat." I feel really bad for Muse being treated like this as both bands are really good (Although Muse's debut is much better then Radiohead's "Pablo Honey" with the only memorable song being "Creep" and the album not realky aging well at all) and both bands have really unique music. Sorry for going on a rant and if it's bad, just tired at the time of typing this.
plus the song is about a relationship breaking up. ''tango takes two'' they say. The tango is like the irony that ''we could have had so much fun but you blew it away''. Same with muscle museum it's a about two people that can't be together but the intro resembles a greek wedding. Double genius now eh?
This means nothing to me 'Cause you are nothing to me And it means nothing to me That you blew this away 'Cause you could've been number one If you only found the time And you could've ruled the whole world If you had the chance You could've been number one And you could've ruled the whole world And we could've had so much fun But you blew it away You're still nothing to me And this is nothing to me And you don't know what you've done But I'll give you a clue You could've been number one If you only had the chance And you could've ruled the whole world If you had the time You could've been number one And you could've ruled the whole world And we could've had so much fun But you blew it away You could've been number one And you could've ruled the whole world And we could've had so much fun But you blew it away
I really love this song. Muse are so underrated. Matt’s voice just gets me on another level. Saw them in this tiny venue in Vienna. Must have been about 1999? Any ideas? There were hardly any people there but from then on, I knew they were special.
The title alone is fantastic; Uno is one in spanish, hence the Latin sounding melody and bass, I think this was a single by them as well, single is another wird for one, and the whole song being about a breakup, where you go from dos to uno? Incredible
I've always thought that if it was soften at the beginning and at the chorus... just a little bit... this could be an intro song for a Bond movie... does anyone agree???
Benjamin Lebidineuse supremacy is easilly the most bond like song in their discography, I would probably have watched spectre just for muse if they'd have been chosen and I'm not a bond fan.
Why do I get the feeling that this would have made a brilliant Bond theme for a film where Moneypenny was the agent of focus? Or the debut on the PS2 of my very own fantasy franchise of games featuring a female secret agent called _Belladonna,_ which would have included a scene where the female hero tortures a serial rapist and sex trafficker by applying hair straighteners to his genitals, resulting in cosplayers using hair straighteners as shorthand for the protagonist, men crossing their legs, wincing and calling said protagonist a bitch no matter how much they sympathise with er and relationships ending because a man watches his girlfriend take more pleasure than he's comfortable with in that part of Belladonna 1?
Those are two of the bands I treasure the most, but to say they are the only real ones is a bit much. Even if they are the only two bands you like, you simply can't deny the talent of some other bands out there. I probably have at least five that are tied for my very favorite, and TONS more that are still absolutely unreal.

and the best part is that they only got better
It's easy to nail your debut album when you're essentially ripping off Radiohead and Jeff Buckley.
That bassline...
tom york rejected for a girl: you're special, but i... am a creep
Matthew:
A tango in a rock song. Geniuses.
it's got that old school 60s rock vibe mixed with grunge
plus the song is about a relationship breaking up. ''tango takes two'' they say. The tango is like the irony that ''we could have had so much fun but you blew it away''. @@novasoul99matt bellamy says he went to greece and italy before recording showbiz so makes sense it resembles a greek wedding
I am 36 this year and this, along with Origin of album, were two of my fave albums to listen to when I was 15
Scary how few listenings were enough for this to grow on me. Art.
this is stuck in my head and it means everything to me
I was already convinced Muse were great, but this song just confirmed it 100%
Muse and Chevelle had killer debut albums in 1999
The most relatable lyrics ever.
Anna Kołbuk no that title belongs to cave with the line please leave me alone it's nothing serious
This means nothing to me
'Cause you are nothing to me
And it means nothing to me
That you blew this away
'Cause you could've been number one
If you only found the time
And you could've ruled the whole world
If you had the chance
You could've been number one
And you could've ruled the whole world
And we could've had so much fun
But you blew it away
You're still nothing to me
And this is nothing to me
And you don't know what you've done
But I'll give you a clue
You could've been number one
If you only had the chance
And you could've ruled the whole world
If you had the time
You could've been number one
And you could've ruled the whole world
And we could've had so much fun
But you blew it away
You could've been number one
And you could've ruled the whole world
And we could've had so much fun
But you blew it away
The bassline has Quentin Taratino film vibes
best bass ever
Uno is back! Now let's go for the vid.
+-JTK- The Hysterical yeah it's been back on all youtube for like a day or two, let's hope this lasts forever
Dewa - Laskar Cinta
This one kind of has a James Bond theme to it.
Reminds me of giving up on an Uno game because I forgot to say "uno" with one card.

Is it just me that gets a real Darkshines vibe 1:52 - 2:09 ?
no I do too, wouldn't be surprised if they took inspiration from that part of the song to make Darkshines as they sound so similar
I do too!!
Dat bass
So good sound quality on all of your videos! GJ.
The title alone is fantastic; Uno is one in spanish, hence the Latin sounding melody and bass, I think this was a single by them as well, single is another wird for one, and the whole song being about a breakup, where you go from dos to uno? Incredible
Uno also because it was the first single they recorded
Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like a James Bond intro song?
I've always thought that if it was soften at the beginning and at the chorus... just a little bit... this could be an intro song for a Bond movie... does anyone agree???
GMOATILLIATA
Yes. Muse have done a few songs that were meant to be in Bond movies, but they were never chosen. This might be one of them?
Benjamin Lebidineuse supremacy is easilly the most bond like song in their discography, I would probably have watched spectre just for muse if they'd have been chosen and I'm not a bond fan.

This has to be inspired by the theme to Callan.
