Gouache has to be my favourite medium. Because once you’ve understood the consistency is has and how you can manipulate it, you can use it like oils or even watercolor.
@@81modusbest recommendation is to always paint using a thicker gouache consistency over thinner (more watery) layers of gouache to prevent the water in your brush/paint from reactivating previous layers. It’s best to work from thin paint to thick paint. Also wait for thinner layers to dry before painting on top of them or else you will accidentally lift up the pigment. ALSO lol, acrylic gouache/acryla gouache is gouache that doesn’t reactivate with water so if you want to paint without the chance lifting up layers, acryla gouache is a great alternative
@Strawberry Kiys You're completely wrong, sorry. Gouche is far more similar to watercolour: same binding medium (gum arabic), both are water techniques and you can mix the two with no problem, they both dry fast and once dried they both can be awaken with water. Gouache it's simply opaque watercolour, if you take watercolors and add chalk you made yourself gouache. If you want to find something similar to compare it to, maybe acrylics (both are water techniques). But oils? Please. Oils have opaque colors, sure, but they have a ton of transparent ones as well , Richard Schmidt sometimes used oils in a very watercolourist way. Oil dries in days and once dried it's sealed, hence you can work in layers. Also, what is pricey is not the binder, of course (oil or gum arabic), it's the PIGMENT for god's sake. From what you said so far there's a high chance you're a beginner, so, please, don't spread false informations. Sincerly, a painter.
@artofaauditor I will address false informations as I feel appropriate to the context. 1kg of gum arabic of the best quality costs less than 40 USD. So you have clearly no idea of what you're talking about either. Don't be in a rush to act like a white knight if you don't have the experience nor the knowledge to back it up boy. Gouche cannot be handled similarly to oil, any amount of whishful thinking will not change the science and chemistry of art.
Stop criticisms, watch and learn technique...the Values that he sees and paints...he has wonderful eye for subtle value changes/planes. And all done in quick drying gouache (opaque watercolor).
this channel just uploades random clips from usually Asian artists i think from china mostly, so if they do have a name on the web its in chines characters, I've only ever found one of them on Instagram and that was just random cause their name was in chines characters.
Zac Hampson Oh shoot, that’s so bad! I’ve swear I’ve been searching for this man everywhere because I’m ever so intrigued by how he uses gouache. Thank you for the reply. I hope I’ll find him one day 😂
@@ojou.artist James Gurney uses gauche in this sort of way and has an extensive list of videos on how to use gauche like that too on his youtube channel
I had gastric bypass earlier this year. This video really help3d me though it. Thanks east oak studios for the video. I love the work of sean cheetah. Beautiful glazes and washes in oils
correct me if im wrong but before painting, it is important to sketch out the composition that you like and capture the proportions of the figure correctly before blocking in the painting. This way, you won't lose the accuracy or create any distortions. It's much easier to have a basic outline to guide you than paint blindly as you go along. Every painting/drawing begins with a sketch or an outline of some kind.
GRina got it right. It might seem weird to see that when you are used to digital illustrators using a lineart, or comic book artists coloring within lines as well. Painters don't actually "draw". They are more like sculptors. They don't build their painting through shape only (in opposition to a drawing), but with colors (value, hue, etc). The sketch in the begining is to fix the first masses in the canvas, to have guiding lines. The real definition and volume is given with the brush strokes, when the painter puts the different values on the canvas. The beginning sketch is only here to fix the propotions and the composition. It is not meant to be present in the end.
its a little hard to see if youre not used to it but he actually is using the lines he drew to map out which areas need to be darker or lighter in value, its pretty subtle in beginning stages but hes not just painting straight over it hes using those initial lines to determine where he will put in shadow and light
Gouache is a type of paints. Basically, it's just more dense and matte than watercolor. And i don't think that it's the best type of paints in the world, because it sticks to everything and leaves marks everywhere.
brylidan oh, so you're welcome, I guess.... btw I don't know about other countries but in Russia gouache is very popular in art schools, I think, it's because gouache is quite cheap and easy to learn
Lionel Kresperne yes, here its cheap too, i practice more with acrylics and a bit of oils (cause its expensive), but i heard colors on guache disappear faster. never used them. ºoº
Not true, it really depends on the gouache. Gouache it´s good due to how easy it is to use it, you can paint with it like with watercolour or like acrylic/oil. If you try to use gouache as you use oil paintings you´ll find it amazing how easy it is and how bright it´s colour are
i don't know if you are an artist or not, but you clearly don't know what the fuck you are talking about. a 3 hour head study is to force the artist to pick and choose the most important parts to convey within their time limit. it is not about accuracy, if a piece of the glasses bothers you so much upload your painting so we can see utter perfection.
trahapace150 - The glasses are on the portrait's focal point -- the face, especially the eyes. Pretty important. It stands out because it's a silly mistake despite everything else being terrific.
I was abit shocked when he started destroying the drawing at 6 min etc... And I like the way he leaves the 'faulty' top of the left lens of her glasses.

I really don't understand how to use it. The reactivation really frustrated me

what brand of gouache
What kind is that white waxy stuff the man mixed at the beginning? is that gesso ?
What paper did you us e?

trahapace150, yes it is a lovely study. The mistake on the glasses really does draw the eye though.
trahapace150 you are an inconsiderate piece of garbage. Your parents needed to teach you some manners.
個人覺得逢合法色彩看起來比較輕盈自然活潑,重疊法上色如果太厚重一不小心會讓人覺得牽強像油畫,功力不好的人容易弄髒顏色........
I would love to see the realization of your own portrait with acrylic step by step.
It's possible?
Thank you
these videos are not made by this account, he probably just downloaded them from other places.
Sir oil or acralic ?????
Neither
顏色豐富色調讚!只是總感覺中國這類的畫鮮度不夠,是因為灰色調太多的緣故嗎?

This is gouache ?? Really ??
those glasses are a mess omg XD

OneDawkinsFan Because it’s a painting, not a drawing.
Too much forehead in the painting...
слишком много цветных пятен, а тона нет((((
