I have been around guns my entire life. Guns have been in my house throughout all of my children's lives. While my children were growing up the guns stayed locked up even though my kids knew about gun safety. It is just the responsible thing to do in my opinion. But this parent had previous knowledge that his son threatened to shoot his school up in 2023 and had an FBI investigation conducted on him and his child. He still thought it was a great idea to buy him an AR for Christmas. I believe he should be held responsible for his negligence. People died at his child's hands. There is no way to defend this parents actions. This man is not the typical responsible gun owning parent.

I’m not sure they should charge the boy as an adult, but if they continue this way, it would seem wrong to also charge the father…who bears responsibility for his child, but not for an adult child. We are on a slippery slope. I can imagine a spiteful child doing something terrible, knowing it will get their parent in trouble. I really think the charges on the Dad are way overblown. A reason not to have children if you don't want to put in the effort to raise responsible, intelligent, emotionally mature people. Raising kids is hard. It stinks when they misbehave and you have to correct them. Consistent discipline is hard. But if you have the right partner and you have an understanding of the kind of people you want to raise, and work together, then there is no greater joy.
We rescue dogs, my husband and I. And we volunteer at an animal rescue for pets and farm animals, and we LOVE our dogs. When our oldest had to be put down in January, it broke all of us, but especially my husband. She was there for my daughter when I was in critical condition, and in and out of hospital for the next two years. She was there for my husband when our daughter left for college. She is still an integral part of our lives.
But as much as we love our amazing dogs, and no matter how rewarding it is to see neglected and abused animals revive and enjoy their lives, it isn't the same as the profound and inexplicable amount of love we have for our daughter. And she's beginning her life in health care, and making a difference to so many people you need empathy and patience as well as excellent care. The amazing person she is humbles us,.and she's found a partner who supports her like my husband supports me. When they get married, they'll send their own amazing children into the world to make it better in their own way.
