Ok. So... Children can lie but it doesn't make the parent a criminal. Based on this stupid logic that means if your child gets in a car wreck and flees then you as a parent can be charged for their crime.

If no crime was found what would prevent them from purchasing a rifle?

I have been around guns my entire life. Guns have been in my house throughout all of my children's lives. While my children were growing up the guns stayed locked up even though my kids knew about gun safety. It is just the responsible thing to do in my opinion. But this parent had previous knowledge that his son threatened to shoot his school up in 2023 and had an FBI investigation conducted on him and his child. He still thought it was a great idea to buy him an AR for Christmas. I believe he should be held responsible for his negligence. People died at his child's hands. Because they don't care about victims of gun violence unless they're young, elderly or rich. People are outraged when anyone in those 3 categories is killed from gun violence and they want justice. They're not going to blame the NRA or weak gun laws so they just lock the parents up so they can say they're tough on gun violence.

@@5thtenn okay so parents have to adjust. It's called being a parent. The world will constantly change so there's no excuse for this kinda behavior. Most parents don't even check their kids devices but want the world to censor itself so they don't have to do the work and make sure THEIR child isn't consuming or partaking in nonsense. The kids are making the rules and all the adults are conforming to them.
It's past time for parents to be held accountable
This is strange but more so since the child is charged as an adult. Seems like that would preclude charging the father. If the child was 20 years old, no way they would charge the father. I’m not sure they should charge the boy as an adult, but if they continue this way, it would seem wrong to also charge the father…who bears responsibility for his child, but not for an adult child. We are on a slippery slope. I can imagine a spiteful child doing something terrible, knowing it will get their parent in trouble. I really think the charges on the Dad are way overblown. Even an abused person knows the difference between right and wrong. This kid knew he was doing something terrible, that was the point. It is sick and twisted and sad beyond words.
It is certainly very confusing I cannot
Have there ever been a case where the dad was charged.?
@@maggiegibson7183 This year in Michigan, I think it is a first. Mother and Father got 10-15 years for involuntary manslaughter because their son was a school shooter. The Crumbleys, Ethan Crumbley was the shooter. I kind of think that when there is so much grief, someone has to pay, but it could be emotion over actual law. People are angry and I suspect jurors might not be totally objective. Parents of murdered kids are going to lash out for sure. Will watch this case to see how charges are justified, but I can see where this could lead to a bad precedent, but it might also make people take notice and be more proactive…will have to see. It is a Pandora’s box.

@@rosiegbo7838oh, for fuck's sake, yes! Yes, the parents absolutely should be charged if they actively go out of their way to make it possible for their children to commit these crimes.
After the FBI was at the family home of the shooter -- the father then goes out and purchases an AR type rifle knowing his son was not only troubled and had an interest in mass shootings but the FBI had been tipped off and arrived at the home. Who does that? The father essentially aided and abetted his son. Parents are responsible for the behavior of their children and if that means a prison sentence, so be it. ENOUGH !
beautifully stated
I definitely agree that the father is clearly negligent with regards to gifting his troubled son the firearm and should definitely be tried and held accountable for that decision. However, stating that "parents are responsible for the behavior of their children" is absolutely ridiculous. Surely you have to see that there are many examples where this isn't the case?
Are the parents still responsible if they are never there? It sounds like it would be literally safer legally to give your child up for adoption than to risk being held responsible for their crimes. Maybe we should consider taking a look at why these people are actually going postal in the first place and accept that something is majorly wrong with society. You don't ever hear about rich kids doing this do you? No, because money literally buys happiness, or at the very least mental health care.
