Be nice if they can find a cargo hatch for it. I was stationed at Naval Air Station Keflavik in 1971 and the US Navy had a DC3 that they used to haul groceries back and forth to some microwave site on the north coast of Iceland. I recall it was the last navy aircraft with an enlisted pilot, a Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate. It was also missing the cargo hatch. That is probably the same plane. We probably gave it to them when we closed the base. But I guess it didn't matter since the plane wouldn't go much over 100 kts anyway.
I believe that if Donald Douglas were still alive today, he would probably be proud to know that thousands of examples of his DC-3, ALMOST 100 YEARS AFTER IT WAS DESIGNED, are still around all over the world earning their daily wage.
God bless you Iceland! I flew Iceland Air in '87, but never expected this. Great job!
Amazing sound, you can hear the low base tone and the hum of the engine all at once.

Wow! What a beautifully preserved plane. The colors are stunning. Good job!
My first flight was in 1947 as a passenger on one of Captain Eddie's converted C-47s.

That's one good looking C-47.

After 2000 hrs and 12 different airplanes, rarely did I ever have to restart after 8 blades
Engine Sound: Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp
And with some modern electronics and engines,,,,, they'll be around for another 80 years!
