So far I wouldn't say Maresca has put a foot wrong as Chelsea manager. The only exception is the results preseason but I couldn't care about that game where Haaland scored a hattrick against our defense.
Potter didn't get sacked on the back of a few bad results, we were in danger of getting dragged into a relegation battle. There was a change in ownership approach, Abramovich would have turfed him out before Christmas.
To be honest any other manager at that moment wouldn't have done much better. The whole club was under transition, and usually the initial phase creates the most chaos. I always thought Potter was judged unfairly at Chelsea. That's not saying he's world class, but he is better than what we got. Started off well, but then injuries happened, we had almost no medical team (as everyone was sacked), also no director(s) which meant the squad was bloated once they were put in place post Jan, as they wanted total squad overhaul. That's not an easy situation for any manager. Remember we dipped even more once Lampard was put in place (who's not top himself but he got us top 4 with a transfer ban and no Hazard).

They have been refreshing in the way they have changed how players are bought on amortisation, how they are paid less for longer contracts and how they have known the type of guy they wanted as coach and finally appear to have achieved it. Results speak for themselves, so far so good.

No preseason, no directors, no medical team, UCL fixtures, mid season World Cup, injuries to vital players, then squad bloat post-Jan once the directors were installed. Whole club was just being uprooted, that won't grow back in 6 months. We got worse once Lampard (who got us top 4 before) was put as interim. Pochettino had it far more fair last season. Maresca has no excuse too, and so far we can see it's been positive.
I wonder what the youngsters that are joining in the next year or two, watching the performances of the team (palmer, sanche, Jackson, Nkunku, Felix, Neto, Mudryk, etc), Wonder where they see themselves fitting in. If it’s crowded at the minute with young players who need minutes, where will they get minutes? On loan? Because I don’t see any of the previous players being displaced to start over with younger prospects. Our problems with keeping players happy will be Maresca’s toughest job while getting performances out of them. Let’s not forget the striker need is still out there, Right back (James long term health), and settling the mid field to learn to play out the back. Our defense needs experience and refining. There’s lots for a young player coming in to think about.
Personally I think we will be challenging this year but we may fall slightly short, but then again if other title contenders have key injuries then anything can happen. Since December last year we have been the 3rd best team in the league since then we’ve added more depth and quality, we’ve not got a mountain of injuries, the entire squad is more cohesive due to more familiarity and we have a better coach. I truly believe next year will be our year but who knows maybe Christmas will come early up the Chels 🎉💪🏻💙

I agree that we probably aren't out and out title contenders, but we are in a golden situation where City might get shagged by the court case, Arsenal might see a massive injury crisis like we did (and they don't have a large squad lol), Liverpool look to be having some shaky performances recently, and Mo Salah will be leaving for international duty this winter and they might also be hit by an injury crisis of which their squad is even smaller than Arsenal's. I don't know, but with the way we are playing and only 3 points away from the top, I think we are in the best position to at least pit one or two of the aforementioned teams from their predicted league spot.
The question really is how long until the "promise" of Chelsea comes good. I'm with you in that I don't think this year is a title contender year. But it's also no longer a "transitional" year. So no excuses for poor performances, really. I think if Chelsea finishes fifth, that would be considered a a marginal failure, but maybe acceptable. Anything south of that, and it's a big problem.

I agree that we probably aren't out and out title contenders, but we are in a golden situation where City might get shagged by the court case, Arsenal might see a massive injury crisis like we did (and they don't have a large squad lol), Liverpool look to be having some shaky performances recently, and Mo Salah will be leaving for international duty this winter and they might also be hit by an injury crisis of which their squad is even smaller than Arsenal's. I don't know, but with the way we are playing and only 3 points away from the top, I think we are in the best position to at least pit one or two of the aforementioned teams from their predicted league spot.

The question really is how long until the "promise" of Chelsea comes good. I'm with you in that I don't think this year is a title contender year. But it's also no longer a "transitional" year. So no excuses for poor performances, really. I think if Chelsea finishes fifth, that would be considered a a marginal failure, but maybe acceptable. Anything south of that, and it's a big problem.

When we say Title contenders I think he means in the race and will drop off. I see us being in the top 3 with Arsenal and City. Liverpool look beatable and player for player aren’t as strong as Chelsea. With Rodri out the title race is wide open. City will probably sign Wharton in January. Arsenal are good but I can’t see them winning. I think Liverpool will be lucky to finish 4th as I see Villa as a better team to finish in 4th. Spurs are too beatable as are Newcastle. Signs are good for Chelsea.

Chelsea Supporters are always weird. There is no middle ground. Enzo is doing a great job so far. Good Press Conferences. No waffe. Straight and honest. A good and so far working system. Good setup and ingame management incl. subs. He got the ability to adept if needed. He knows how to handle the players and their characters/egos. Some like Jadon or Joao require a bit more "cuddle and hugs" then others. But lets wait and see how the season develops. We will have some dips. We will lose games. And we might get a battering here and there. Combined with the usual fan outcry that a championship manager is in the end not good enough. Player X is shit. And player Y should never be at the club. Chelsea in a nutsshell.🤣
