    I am studio recording engineer and have been beginning a journey in live streaming, have noticed that so many streamers are super quiet... there is just no info out there that is any good, until this video! Thank you so much!!! I do a daily podcast using OBS and I have the RODE PODCASTER and RODE PODMIC. The quality was already there but I noticed that other videos on UA-cam had a lot more volume without distortion or clipping. FINALLY, you have shown me the key!!! I just made a test video after adding the compressor and limiter to OBS (using your settings) and it is like a whole new video. I can't thank you enough for making this information plain and available. God bless you.

    Small update. I have now tried those new settings. Man the sound is just so much better. I play Trance - Hard Trance - Hard House It was a nightmare with the sound levels. Now I can actually hear what's coming through the live stream with clarity. Again thanks a lot for the info I have been searching for 4 weeks to get the sound right. There should be a 6-15db difference between your voice and the volume of the game. It’s ok to have the game or background music quieter. Audience can turn their volume up, but they can fix it when the background is too loud.

    The thing you aren't covering is the fader level on OBS (which I see you had at max) and the input level from the mic. For mine, I have the OBS level not quite to the top and control the level from the mic without comp or limiter. Looking at my level on OBS it doesn't peak. But when I listen back to the stream, it is distorting.

    • @priyonjoni
      @priyonjoni  3 роки тому +1

      Because I never changed the level. It’s at 0dB. The limiter is set to -3dB to provide 3dB of headroom in case any peaks go past the threshold. That is why there is no clipping in any of my examples or my live streams.

    • @BillRussellVoiceActor
      @BillRussellVoiceActor 3 роки тому +1

      @@priyonjoni On a usb interface or my interface (yamaha ur22), there isn’t a way to tell if it’s set at 0db.
      The level on OBS you have is maxed, is that 0db (you didn’t state that and I don’t see it on the meter in your video. It might have it in the newest update, I don’t remember)? You didn’t address it.
      I yell a lot on my stream. I’m going to try your settings and see what I get. I’ll get back to you. From what I can see, I need to set my OBS to MAX or 0db, set the comp and limiter (comp first in line) to -3db and change the levels on my USB interface when I see it go into the yellow (on my streams, if it hits in the yellow it clips or I have my mic gain to high and it clips it). I think that’s my problem is finding the balance between the level in the OBS and my microphone gain, and the comp/limiter combo is supposed to take is that. I’ll update you. Thanks.

    But what if you're not using encoder software and you want to stream straight to UA-cam? We've found that the spoken word sounds fine, but when we stream music from a source (e.g. a choir or multimedia player), the signal after processing through UA-cam sounds awful. If we have mic'd up a choir and they're singing, is the only way to make sure the streamed singing sounds good (aside from choir placement and condenser mics) is to use encoder software? What about streaming direct to UA-cam via Vaddio or via your inbuilt camera where you're lined in through a mixer? Thanks.

    What is broadcast quality anyway and why assume it's high? Many if not most digital broadcasts sound like shit to my ears. At worst they can sound thin and shrink wrapped and scrape like nails on a chalk board. Also no front to back depth, ambience retrieval or harmonic realism.

    i feel like the lack of time stamps kills this video, because the words per minute is low and it makes it really hard to sit still and watch this. i'm 4 minutes in and I don't feel like i got much from that time; wishing it was more concise.
