Oooft!!! Hard landing Jonathan! Sounds as if Hahn is to be avoided! Was looking out for the Gewiss Stadium, home of Atalanta FC, as you landed but it’s further north of the airport. Nice video & thanks for sharing👍🏻
Haha it was slightly mate. It really is not a good airport at all. Few places I'd ever say that I wouldn't go back to, but Hahn is definitely one of them. Yes the Stadium is just a little further north. No problem at all mate my pleasure. Thankyou for your comment 😁✈️
Great video as always. Which terminal did you depart from at Hahn Airport? I've flown from Hahn several times since 2002 and found it basic but efficient, even when Ryanair had 4 based aircraft departing it didn't feel crowded. I haven't passed through in a while (been using Eurowings EDI-CGN mainly) so perhaps it has gone downhill in recent times. Thanks for uploading this one, have safe travels ✈️
Thankyou for watching. The only terminal the main one there where the viewing terrace is. It was crowded and woefully inadequate for the number of passengers inside that space. Because the likes of Wizzair and other use the airport too it really is far too small. I think only Modlin comes close to being as bad, however Modlin did have at least a decent enough small shop and decent toilets. Interestingly a new group is looking to transform the terminal and invest in the airport, but when that happens we shall see. Thanks for watching
In May 2022 it was in Germany just the Outphasing-Time of the Pandemic, the last restrictions were just abandoned a few weeks earlier. So maybe it was not the best time to travel to Germany. Hahn Airport is a former US Airbase which was converted into a civil Airport after the end of the Cold War back in 1993. And calling it "Frankfurt" is a Marketing Gag, nothing more. Hahn Airport is located in a rural area in the Hunsrück Mountains (as you can see in the Video) round about 120 Kilometres away from the City of Frankfurt. The next town is Kirchberg (Hunsrück) with round about 4100 inhabitants, the Airport is located on the territory of the Village of Hahn with round about 200 inhabitants. The Airport can be reached only by Car and by Bus (and by Plane - of course). The Peak of Passenger Numbers were back in 2007 with round about 4 Millions, but they decreased during the years before the Pandemic to round about 1,5 Millions in 2019. In 2022 there were round about 1,3 Million Passengers and in 2023 round about 1.6 Millions. Hahn has a little bit greater importance as Cargo Airport - some (few) larger Cargo Airlines are approaching it, even with 747, amongst them Suparna Airlines from China and Silk Way West Airlines from Azerbaijan. There´s also a little bit of General Aviation at Hahn Airport (the Airport has a small General-Aviation-Terminal, too) and still some Military Air Traffic (as it is shown in the Video), also a Police Flight School for Police Helicopter Pilots. The biggest and best thing at Hahn Airport is the Runway with 3800 metres x 45 metres, a 03/21 with ILS. The State Government of Rhineland-Palatinate, which was the Majority Owner since 1993, tried a couple of years unsuccesfully to sell the Airport, so no nothing was invested into the Airport for many years. In 2023 (one year after your visit) they were finally succesful and picked up a private Investor, which is now running the Airport. All-in-all: Hahn Airport is clearly not designed to be a Tourist Attraction.
@@JonathanWinton123 I´m not wondering about that. The new private Owner want to change much to the better - he had at least stated this, but we will see - and it will not change the very remote location of the Airport.

That is true. It is still one of the worst terminals I've ever used and the facilities were not good.
