  • Tutorial showing how to motorize the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Ferris Wheel 31119 with Power Functions 8883 M Motor.
    Transcript:
Today I’m gonna show how I’ve motorized the LEGO Ferris Wheel 31119.
The first thing I did was to move the gearing away from the front - and put it in the back instead.
Remove the “Fun” and the sun.
Detach the wheel - and the diagonal support.
Remove some of the vertical support - and put it all back together again.
Then mirror the stairs - and switch orientation on all the gondolas.
Even if you’re not going to motorize the set, I personally think it looks nicer with the gearing moved to the back.
    And now to motorization.
Remove the “Fun” and the sun - again - and the wheel - again - detach the diagonal support in the back - again - and remove the vertical support in the back - again.
And then remove this 2x4 tile.
    Now to building the gearing.
One thing that was important for me was that the motor and gearing didn’t take up extra space outside the ride.
I used gears that I already had in my LEGO collection - in the end of the video I will list which parts I’ve used to motorize this ride.
I’m using different kind of gears - 8 tooth, 24 tooth, 12 tooth with bevel and 20 tooth with bevel.
This will - with fresh batteries - end up with around seven and a half rotation per minute for the ride.
For comparison, a similar ride in Tivoli in Copenhagen has a maximum speed of around five rotations per minute.
Then we can just attach this small build to the Ferris Wheel - and check that the gears can rotate freely.
Then it’s time for the motor.
I’m using an M motor for two reasons: one - I already had it - and two - it’s relatively small.
Then we’re gonna put the battery box under the stairs.
A few extra pieces are also needed for this - I will list all the needed pieces in the end of the video.
And then all there’s left is to put it all together again - don’t forget the sun and the “Fun”.
I hope you found this video useful - see you another time.

After I moved the ferris wheel, i had some problems running it. I fixed it by doing what's shown in this video:

These really good instructions. Very easy to follow and understand. Thank you for not going so fast and providing the list of parts.

      No problem 😌
You probably have to pause the video while assembling the gears - maybe I’ve made that part too fast.

Quick note: the old gear are out of production by LEGO until the new and improved one is replaced in 1980s to 2011s.
The newer gears has less backlash and more reinforced but the smaller 8t gears gets cracked during running.
This is a same problem with a osprey set.

I did what you did by moving the rotating gear to the back. But I kept the steps on the left (whereas you moved it to the right). Good job!

I have a question? Can the wheel spin to the other side?
In the video, it runs backwards.

I also had some issues myself after moving it. ua-cam.com/video/Zb1J8OB2vnU/v-deo.html shows how I've fixed it. I don't know if it will solve your problems.

Do you see “plain text” or an XML file? Some browser (Safari on iPhone eg.) show it wrongly as flat text. Else try to look at the file here. And if that still doesn’t work, it’s the number after ITEMID that’s the LEGO part number. github.com/thordreier/RandomFiles/blob/main/Bricklink/Motorized%2031119.xml
