    Appreciating having this vids back again, I had a question u probably could answer that is what happens to that bottom tower section of crane which is embeded in concrete slab foundation, when the construction has ended?
    Is it removed? Just cut away? Left in place maybe?
    Thank you. And by the way why is the crane foundation so massive this time? I have seen such tower cranes installed before and none was featuring such a huge slab!

    • @HospitalConstruction
      @HospitalConstruction  4 роки тому +2

      I'm not expert by any means, but I believe that the part encased in concrete just remains forever, but most of the bottom section unbolts from that. So the only part left is what is encased in the concrete. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the slab size. Maybe there are some experts who can chime in.

      Yep the bottom section stays, either poured over or cut off. You cast it en-situ once level so thats that.

    • @ke6gwf
      @ke6gwf 4 роки тому

      @@HospitalConstruction the slab size was instead of pilings.
      That's on sand, as you can see from them digging a trench BY HAND near the beginning lol, and putting the slurry layer down before starting with rebar, and so you just need a really big heavy mat to spread the weight out, and by its extreme weight, compact the sand and provide stability.
      And yes, the bottom section of the tower base bolts on, and at the end it gets unbolted, the tower lifted off, and then torched flush and covered over.

    I don’t get this craneboom dolly. In Europe they drive around like it supposed to be and in the US everything is made bigg and heavier only youre US tonnage is less then Metric tonnage and the roads can’t handle this? Where’s the logic in building bigger and heavier if the roads can’t handle it?

      It's the US ... biggest third world country in the world ...

    • @tannerrobinson5110
      @tannerrobinson5110 4 роки тому

      Yet most US semi-trucks are heavier than an average European semi-truck, which isn't exactly a great apples to apples comparison. At the end of the day it comes down to bureaucracy (maximum axle weights, permits to drive a large crane down the road, etc.). A dolly also allows the crane and boom to spin freely, meaning that the back of the vehicle will not swing outward when turning, but rather drag behind the rest of the vehicle. Again, not all cranes of this type need that large of a dolly, but most use one. I personally have never seen one with that long of a dolly. Most are only two axles in a tandem configuration, not not in the two plus one configuration as seen here (which is likely because of California having some of the most ridiculous Commercial vehicle laws in the US).

    • @ke6gwf
      @ke6gwf 4 роки тому +1

      In the US we have what are known as Bridge laws, and it's a formula for how much weight can be on the road, based on the number of axles and the distance between axles.
      You can get overweight permits, but you still need to be below the bridge law figures unless you want to hire engineers to plan your route and calculate if the bridges can handle the weight.
      Basically the bridges are designed to handle a certain amount of weight per foot of bridge, and so the loads have to stay below there.
      So by adding more axles, and spreading them further apart, you can be heavier with less issues.
      In Europe, I would expect to see a crane that size with the boom shipped separately from the carrier and then assembled on site.
      Here they were able to extend the dolly and get a larger crane in a single trip.
