As you may remember, I owned a 2019 Can Am Ryker 900 ACE for about a year before deciding to move up to the Spyder. The new models were a little beyond my budget, but I did find a very nice 2018 Can Am RT Limited and with the trade in value the dealer gave me on my Ryker, it was a doable upgrade. Your comparisons between ride comfort between the models is spot on. I especially like the power steering on the RT. After coming off a long ride on the Ryker I usually felt like I had been rode hard and put away wet. No at all with the RT. While I have fond memories of my adventures on the Ryker, I don't regret moving on to the RT.

Oh ya for sure I enjoyed my time with the Ryker but I need more comfort and amenities that a Spyder can offer. Don't blame you at all, I would've upgraded eventually if I didn't have a Harley touring bike on my bucket list.

I love my Road King, but one thing I miss about my spyder rss was on longer trips when I got tired I could push on a little further without fear of going down due to a bad decision while I was fatigued. Godspeed

Just Bought a 2021 Can Am Spider RT Limited and Loving it, I has a 2014 Goldwing and getting up in age 67 now and I dont have to worry about putting my feet down in a Ohio Chuck hole and dropping the bike. Waiting on a delivery on a Kompact Kamp Mini Mate Popup camper like I had with the Goldwing years ago. I want to get out and enjoy. Covid19 is just getting on my nerves. Time to enjoy life again!

Great video. I just test rode an RT and F3 after owning a Ryker for 2 years. Other than shifting, the thing I kept forgetting was to actually turn the key. As you well know, with the Ryker, you pop it on and off you go!

Lol yup I hear you on the key. I went from a traditional key bike to Ryker for a year and because the ryker key was out of sight, I would forget to take the key out some times.

When it comes to costs for service, it really depends on which Can-Am dealer you take your Spyder into. I've heard the horror stories of a routine oil change and maintenance up to $600 as you pointed out but my local dealer the price is around $225. The BRP OEM oil change kit is a little over $100 itself so I find the total cost for parts/service under $250 reasonable. Unfortunately for some folks, they only have one Can-Am dealership nearby so it's difficult to shop around.

    • @RideAboutNow
      @RideAboutNow  3 роки тому +1

True that. When you have dealer in your area the price will be dictated by that store. Problem is that we have 3 near me and they are all equally expensive. 550 to 600 for Premium service.

Nice video. I have a 2011 Can-Am Spyder RT I bought 2 years ago with 1000 miles. I drive it on I-95 at 80-90 mph almost daily. The ride is smooth and responsiveness is very good. I've had to replace the battery (under warranty) and I bought new tires $500. Maintenance is costly but an oil change is easy just remove the front left panel. I keep mine plugged up in the garage to ensure the battery is fully charged. I also added a light kit and a Bluetooth adapter to connect my Android, IPhone or mp3 player. Looking to add front & rear cameras to eliminate the video following my eyes.

I had a 16 Road King and was in a motorcycle accident, I lost ALOT of strength and balance isn't the best so I test drove the 2021 RT limited and immediately fell in love and I'm back in the wind which I missed SO much. I put a "pedal commander" and have it on "sport 1" and WOW, did that ever wake up the throttle response, sport+ 4 is absolutely insane 🤣 0-60 4.5 seconds and you can do a big fat burnout. It took a couple weeks to adjust but I'm glad I did. Wind is wind

Good review. We had a 2013 RT then a 2017 RT and they are very comfortable for 2 up which my wife and I do all the time on club rides. Yes you do have to blip the throttle to smooth out the jerkiness in the shifting, Takes about 500 miles to get used to the highway handling most people new to three wheels say. Steering was maybe a little too light and experience riders always told newbies not to grip the handlebars too tight. It’s stable though at 80 mph. Tons of storage. You might like the F3 better as I heard it’s sportier.

Just bought a 2021 f-3S in November of last year. Very impressed so far, although I have only put about less than 100 miles on it so far. It got pretty cold here in November. Then the snow started. Wasn’t too bad this year but it was way too cold to ride. I don’t have a windshield yet but I will get one before Summer/Spring season starts. I have been ridding 2 wheel bikes my whole life and have always had a shield.looking at some other stuff as well. I have always done oil changes break jobs and the like on all our cars/bikes etc. I’m not a mechanic by trade but have been a shade tree mechanic all my life. I may let them do breaks and alinement but I’ll probably do my own simple stuff like oil changes. Thanks for the ride. 😉

Nice F3s is pretty cool. The riding position is just like the ryker I had just bigger with a lot more options. I am not even that handy to do my own oil change. But that is awesome, congrats on your new ride.

Awesome vid. Thanks for posting. I've not ridden since 2009. I had a bought of anxiety I couldn't get over. Now, I'm 43, wanting to get back on a bike, but want total leisure. Boyfriend thinks 3 wheels would be a good option to get me back on the road and be confident enough to be on my own if I choose to go solo riding. The price tag hurts my soul though. Thoughts on older models?

    • @gregkamer3754

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't go with anything older then say a 2014. Prior to that, Can Am offered the 998cc engine, which was high rev. The newer 1330 engines in the 2014 and up are a much better, lower maintenance engine. When I updated my ride, I went with the 2018 RT Limited with no regrets.

I convince my wife to start riding she had some experience on dirt bikes in the army but had not really ridden motorcycles much in her life I talked her into taking the three wheel course and offered to attend with her even though I have my motorcycle licenses. I told her if she got her license I would get all of her gear if she decided to ride. She loved the Riker that we trained on and was getting ready to buy one the first day when we took our lunch break I convinced her to be patient finish the course get her license and then let’s do some real research and determine working a ride and she wanted to do. The Ryker is awesome and fun as hell to drive but if you’re going to do long distance you need to look at Spyder it comes with more amenities and it’s and that seat is amazing especially for long rides. If you had a Goldwing the RT is going to fit your riding style the best. It rides well, got power, and all of the amenities you want for touring. If you want a more aggressive riding Spyder with considerable amenities get the F3 it’s got the best of both worlds. It’s aggressive like the Ryker and have the amenities of the more luxury liner the RT. I currently have a 2017 Indian Roadmaster and I love my bike but I also love my wife’s 2019 Spyder RT Limited it’s one of the best riding two up touring bikes on the market in my opinion.

Well done! I appreciate you showing the different bags. Did you sit on the Sea To Sky? I'm curious if the seat is a lot more comfortable. I'm going to be buying one or a limited very soon. I have a 2020 RT. I also own a 2010 Harley RK. But at my age 59 I was starting to feel less confident riding with my wife on two wheels. It was a tough decision between the triglide and the RT. Specially for me that enjoys our Harley Davidson culture. But my wife as a passenger liked the RT. She didn’t like the Triglyde look of two wheels on the back. Also at times she felt heat been trapped around her legs area because of the rear fenders. So I was happy to spend $7k less than a Triglyde. I agreed with your review. The ride is very easy to ride, good music sounds and very comfortable. However is a bit boring for my riding style so I added foot pegs, Ella suspension, and a Comander. Now is a bit more fun. 😉

    Why the high maintenance. Cost?
How often do you have to do maint?
What all do they do during maint.?

I think it is every 6k miles. The labor charges are ridiculous that make the maintenance high. They have 2 types. A regular oil change ($250-$300) and a 'premium oil change' ($600) Premium is where they give the bike a once over. I feel that they would do that anyways on a regular oil change.

Muddy,There is virtually no effort in the shifting process on a RTL. What I'd be concerned with with your ailment is the reverse procedure. Left thumb on top button & simultaneously hitting the downshift paddle with your index or middle finger. THAT might pose a challenge.

really it's time for it to be an 8 gear automatic, with the ability to shift manually. it needs way more lights and bigger lights. no reason not to add an airbag. it's a little cramped. the cost is crazy. i can see 18K - 23K loaded. they should do custom colors for another 1000.00.
