- With the new class 777 units coming into service on the Merseyrail Network, I decided to get a Mersey rail Rover ticket , to make the most of the old class 507 /508 units, and also to try out the new 777.
With just one new unit in service on the Liverpool Central to Kirkby , there was also one running between Kirkdale and Hillside on driver training?? ( I presume).
The locals were certainly getting excited about having new trains!!
A bonus at the end, when I stopped at James Street to get a shot of the rarely used platform 2!

Wonderful 🌟 Thank you 👍
Thanks David 👍
❤❤ old and new 😅😅
They got new class tripple 777s now 😅
Liverpool underground ❤❤
Loved the 507s and 508s.
They will be a big part of Mersey Rail history 😀
I like the way the old emu meets the newer emu
Will the new ones last 40 years?
@@philclarke3203 I think it’s gonna be more than 40 years for the new emus
@@thebrummierailenthusiasts5329 I doubt it, nothing made to last nowadays, and technology will be outdated. Pretty certain I won't be around in 40 years though
Most enjoyable especially with that bonus at the end.
Thanks.Was a great bonus
Well done, get both together as much as you can as the future is 777 stock. Nice captures and lucky to get the MPV plus 230s. Good videos.
Many thanks . The MPV was certainly a bonus 👍
Very nice 👍👍👍 I like the look of the new 777s...
Thanks Craig 👍
I like the new 777 unit they are smart
Amazing ❤🚂❤
excellent shots 👍
Thanks Barry 👍
Merseyrail could do themselves a lot of good by replacing the third rail with overhead wires. They could then upgrade the voltage to 1500V, thus enabling better acceleration and regenerative braking, some thing that can't be done with third rails. The Wirral line would have to feature a dual-voltage system, because there is no space for wires going round the Lime Street Loop and therefore needing to keep the lower voltage and third rail there, but the rest of the system would be a lot better off!
Sorry, but I have to disagree. To introduce complications like dual voltage would be expensive and unnecessary on a compact system like Merseyrail. The 750V dc system works well as it is and would benefit by an extension of the third rail. Simplicity works much better than complicated and is cheaper.
And makes better arcs so.

Great video Phil

Great video Phil the end and the beginning 😁 a good day for you the 777's looks nice..When do the old stock cease running ?
Thanks rick. Not for quite a while yet, I was told.
Good capture of the Network Rail unit. Are TfW still able to use the exLU stock? LNW have stopped using them on Bedford-Bletchley.
Thanks Kevin. Not sure about that, I've not seen any working.
Since found out, they are not being used
