I voted for Keith Wilson here in NoPo. All I want is the homeless situation dealt with and funds for a Baseball Stadium. I have watched my city get worse for the last two election cycles, hopefully that trends ends.
As long as there are available shelters that are safe from criminals, open to pets, open during daylight hours, and have transportation to and from needed jobs and services.
Open to pets? that is not going to work, sorry. Most of the homeless in my neighborhood are drug users. Sure, they have pets, but they won't go to a shelter that won't let them use, and won't let them keep a pet. They don't want to follow rules. No rules and maybe they will think about it...Drug users need to be in treatment programs, but...oh wait, they don't want to go into treatment either....same old same old. The main problems with homeless that this city is having is NOT families who have lost their homes, or their jobs, or their dwelling. The main offenders ARE the drug users and pushers. Then there are the RV dwellers living in junk-filled squalor. Sorry, but it is hard to know which came first, the homelessness or the mental illness. This is a much bigger problem than finding decent shelter.
I love this. This is so much like mayor Hickenlooper of Denver. He’s now a senator, but he was not in public office. He owned a brewing company. I love this fabulous yay Portland. Yay RCV!!
He talks a real optimistic plan for the future, and like him I’m hopeful as well, but as the old saying goes; “talk is cheap”, show us that you’re different from the previous mayors that we have had.
Regarding the environment: it's time that we had an Automobike Non-Idling law on the books. Just like many other cities and states across the nation. Start with a ciry law, yhen hopefully, the rest of the state will follow suit afterwards.
Will this be a bigger failure than Meaure 110? We will see in a few years if the city is building a baseball stadium with a bunch of drug addicted homeless people on the waterfront.
All I needed to hear to know that I was listening to pure propaganda BS was “fossil free trucking”… Please don’t insult the intelligence of your audience (What? Oh… that’s all you are designed to do?… Oh, well then. Carry on)
high speed rail -- fix the homeless problem dude and do that before a stadium nobody will use because of the homeless and crime....this is laughable...
stadiums dont really bring in money for cities... unless they have year round games and teams that are top notch. it end sup being a burden for cities in general
Sounds like you watched the first 3 minutes and the last 3 minutes. There was a big section in the middle there where he addressed his plans for unsheltered homelessness.
@@OldManMilner I did -- I stand by my point, which is one thing at a time -- fix the homelessness first -- then tackle graffiti, work on getting more cops and bring business back. fix what we already have, then think about expanding. so many businesses have left and Portland has a bad reputation now..I will be amazed if he can do anything about homelessness...
@@wishihadanickel Well then I hope you can give Keith more than 3 minutes into his term before casting more dispersions. If your primary concern is homelessness that is the platform he ran on. True this interview is bookend by baseball and light rail, but the bulk of the discussion was on homelessness just like his campaign. If you are looking for graffiti removal, more cops and more downtown business than it's tough luck Rene didn't win.
Portland made the right choice. I can't imagine the city being run by someone like Rene.

I am rooting for PDX. It has been a great place and can be again.
No baseball stadium paid with taxpayer money
exactly

We've elected the Portland Mr. Rogers to the mayorship. What a soothing voice. I wish him and the new council all the best.
Unsheltered homelessness is same as homeless...
Sounds $$$$$$
California high speed rail original budget 33 billion. Current unfinished budget is 128 billion!!!! Pray we dont fall for this BS!!!!
God speed to you Sir.

Thanks for putting this out there

0:33 Laurel does Keith dirty by comparing him to Ted right off the jump.

Treatment first then housing.
No need for a stadium. Don’t waste money
