  • In this final installment of the Drawing as an Embodied Practice series, we examine automatic drawing, also known as surrealist automatism. This technique was developed in the early 20th century as a way for artists to explore their subconscious mind and tap into a heightened state of creativity. It is still used today as a method for relaxing the mind and creating innovative, interesting artwork.

Growing up I would always do this while on the phone. My conscious mind was busy talking while my creative mind was "guiding" the pencil. Neither was aware actively aware of the other. At the end of the call I would be surprised by what was on the paper! I actually found it relaxing. 🙂

Glad I stumbled on this. I was looking for ideas and forgot about automatic drawing to get myself started. :)

I do it but i allow my deity to draw/write through and at times other spirits should i wish to communicate ith them more than i normally do. im currently trying to help my deity work out what he drew means lol. he was writing then suddenly felt a great need to draw something.
