I've had a V3 since before Remington was sold and it seems as good as the 1100 and 1187 before it. My first Camo semi-auto and very soft shooter. After one time taking it down and putting it back together it's not a problem.

I will say I’ve cycled about 1800 rounds thru this in 3 1/2 years, I shoot trap and 5 stand with this, not to mention it slayed some doves this season. This is one of the best guns I’ve ever purchased and I own an SBE 3. Never had a problem cycling a shell or a misfire, I shoot pretty much all federal or Winchester AA. Minimum cleaning for a gas gun, I’ve only fully disassembled this a few times and it’s crazy how clean it stays. Remington says it is a sled cleaning gas system. So soft shooting compared to other gas guns like the SX4. Also loaded it up with Carelson’s chokes. Can’t say enough good things about how the gun performs.

The 1187 I had wasn’t as bad. The V3 is awesome and no saying these older models are trash bc they paved the way for the new ones we have, but most of them can’t stand up to the ergonomics of these new guns…The V3 is lighter and has a better gas system then the 1100/1187. Yes, action disassembly/reassembly is a bit tricky the first time, but when it's apart it's truly apart; there's nothing additional in the buttstock begging to go unmaintained like in many other popular designs.

I have the walnut version V3. Admittedly, it takes a bit to become proficient at disassembly. However, a very underrated quality in the V3 as a waterfowl gun, is the lack of recoil spring in the stock to take on water and gunk! That was always an issue with my Super X2. Really hope Remarms takes off. Would love to see a 20 gauge V3!
I had a V3 for a short time before Remington went bankrupt, I had to send it back for finish issues but in the time I had it I really liked it. Good to see they’re making them again. Something about hunting with a gun made in the USA just feels right.
My V3 is the softest shooting shotgun I have. I want to see you compare it to the SX4. You have to slide the bottom of the bolt to get it back after assembly. I have over 1500 rounds between cleaning. It’s reliable.
@@duke1386I've got 1. Its a big clunky pump but it works fine. Had an issue with a youth 870 as kid. I want to get this in waterfowl pro and give this to my youngest son when he graduates college. USA made Remington V3 in 3 inch 12 gauge is a superb all around shotgun design.
I've had this gun since the Waterfowl Pro was released. I've never had a single issue with it. Reinstalling the guide rods and springs is a little tricky but luckily you only need to remove and reinstall them while cleaning. It seems like you struggled in the video on the reinstallation of the bolt. If the bolt is in the locked position, it doesn't push into the receiver. You have to push the sled to unlock the bolt and get it all back into the receiver so you can capture the bolt handle. That is by design, the pistons or the bolt handle unlock the bolt.
I have two of them. Best shotguns Remington ever made. I"ve not had one single issue with either. I even found an 18.5" barrel and made one into a home defense gun. It's simple to take apart once you know how it's done. I agree it can be tricky when you first do it. But I even sold my 1301 and my M4 because these guns shoot so soft. The pistons are identical to the Benelli M4. I love that everything is in the receiver so you don't have to take the stock off to clean the action spring, like most every other gas shotgun. And not having an action spring around the mag tube is awesome too. Those guns that use them will see wear and tear way sooner than you think. At least that's been my experience. But this gun does need a little oil or grease on the bolt and springs. I open the action and spray a shot of Rem Oil in there about every 6 months or so. Clean it once a year. Every gun maker will have a part fail from time to time. But my two run like they should, and that's why I love them. I've also sold all my 1100s but I did keep my 1988 1187 Premier with the competition carrier. That gun is mint and I only take it out on occasion. Thanks for posting on this great shotgun!
I have been hunting for a while but I used to miss a lot after watching some of ur video I became better and more accurate thank u so much for this beautiful connten

Dude, you have the V3 and the 940 Pro Waterfowl, those are the two neck and neck competitors in this bracket. Compare and contrast them! Does the V3 shoot softer than the 940? With waterfowl loads?
I got an 1187 back in 2017 before they went bankrupt. I used and abused it since then. The only issue I’ve had was a failure to feed the 3rd shot. It started after the gun got fully immersed in water and I didn’t do the best job cleaning and oiling the components after the fact. For my first gun it has been a great package for under 800 when I bought it.
The versa port system works really well on my v max and handles any load , I wish you would of ran some 3 inch duck loads thru it and demonstrated the recoil on them Thanks been waiting on this one
It’s much easier to put the rod and spring back in with the gun on its side (bottom side) instead of standing it vertically. As for the bolt, it moves front-back and rotates on the carrier assembly. In either back or front position (can’t remember) it slides like butter, in the other one it gets stuck.

@@Gunrunner223 I ended up with a browning silver , older model from a pawn shop. Paid $900 for it, after a full disassembly, looked like it was never shot. I’ve had it since April-ish . Around 7,000 rounds through it. No problems at all.
@@PoppaWheelies the silver was one of my options. I was able to buy the all black V3 for $578 out the door, so I had to take the deal. But I'm still open to adding either a browning silver, or Winchester sx4 at some point. I'm definitely a gas guy. I'm not a fan of recoil.

Remington Versamax would be mechanically better and simpler , and the gas pistons copied Benelli M4 ARGO system . Great video ! Wish you review a Versamax in future.
My rem arms m700 is an amazing gun too, I've got it down to .6MOA consistently on factory ammo, thats better than any rifle I've ever owned. They've really stepped up their game.
After your review/videos on the Mossberg 940, I bought 2 for each of my boys (13 & 14yo) for clays/doves/turkeys.......but I've been interested in a V3 for years- I currently have an 1100 (that I don't care for, bc of fit), and a Beretta 390, but I would really like a direct comparison between the 940 & a V3. I'm also interested in performance with harder recoiling shells; was told by a company that produces heavy TSS shells, that they didn't recommend shooting them in a V3-? (Reportedly bc of the port system) Thanks for another great review!
Big green might be back fellas....gettin good feed back all the way around from rifles to shotguns...hell there rifles now are comin with 5r barrels and timney triggers from factory thats awesome!...i would like to see the new rem arms "870" and "1100" against the old ones that will be the real test.
I had one before Remington sold out. It gave me some issues so I sent it back for repair. Not long after, the same issue reappeared but by then the new company took over. They said they would not honor any issues with Remington guns. I traded that junk in quick for a Browning Maxus 11 and have not had any more problems since. I have always owned Remingtons my whole life, but I'll never own another one unless it's an old one when Remington stood behind their products!
@@poacher-ec9zo Well, maybe it because I bitched them out and told them I would never buy another Remington. They told me they would not honor any of the previous warranties from the real Remington! So, no problem, they can stick it! Love my Browning!
@@austinbeachy3873 It would jam up and you had to take it all apart. Something I did not want to be doing in the duck marsh! The new company left a bad taste in my mouth and I will never do business with them! Such a little issue, but they lost me for life! They just didn't care at all that I was having issues. Screw them!
The fore arm cap retaining “ fingers” that you don’t like are actually not as fragile as they seem… but they are soft and the forearm cap has a spring loaded bearing that ratchets over them and wears a grove in them which allows the cap to loosen while shooting. You can purchase a replacement piece, but it’s not any better than the original. My solution was to buy 2 extra and when one won’t hold anymore.
I bought a Versamax in 2012 which I believe is a predecessor to the V3. I have put somewhere in excess of 10k rounds through it and overall I have been very pleased. Mostly it has shot light target loads for trap, skeet, sporting clays, and five stand. It has not cycled like 2-3 times. 1 of the times was due to the bolt extension breaking off at the pin. That was after about 10,000 rounds through it. Also, it is a lot easier to take apart. Foreend comes off the same way, barrel comes off, bolt comes out, one pin on the rear of the bolt for the firing pin, then the cam pin comes out, then the bolt head. Piston comes out after unthreading the screws on the front of it. The other issue I have with it is the foreend cap unthreads itself, which they did come out with a fix that I never did. It also works fine off the hip, upside down, and shooting it like a pistol.
I agree i have an early versa max waterfowl editition. Easier to take apart than these v3s and has been super reliable. Gun spits out whatever shell you put in and is fairly light recoil
Looks like a good gun period great review as always period glad to see that you kept the original chokes in it period I wonder if you should add a patterning test to each of your shotgun reviews.
I had 1100 Remington years ago , still miss it , but. this one , not for me , too messy taking apart etc . i ll stick now with my Benelli Auto, simple to take down , light, BUT a bit difficult ,to Un load in the semi dark evenings without dropping the shells in the mud ,with cold hands , my only criticism, compared to un loading the Remington Gas Auto easy straight pull back ! BUT still got my old Rem 870 pump, two sets barrels as back up , i d never ever sell ! !
How was the recoil compared to the SX4 and 940? You should do a review on the DECKED box, they have a new design with 30% more storage and a few features.
my buddy and his brother inlaw had the v3's from way back and they were the biggest piles of crap. my buddys brother inlaw sent it in 2 or 3 times and it still never worked like it should have. my buddy, had cycling issues with his, and i heard so many other people had tons of issues with theirs as well. so hopefully these are better
I love all the remington pump guns I have. I always wanted a versa max back when I couldn't afford one. Now that I can afford one, you can't find them.
Thanks for the review helped me make up my mind. I got a "new" Remington 700 and it has been awesome, so i was curious if the V3 would be a good addition.
Remington, please bring back the VersaMax. It is the most reliable shotgun on earth. Thanks. Love you! *Edit* also, please make it so the mag plate doesn't bite me feeding shells... Thanks 😘
I have tens of thousands of rounds through a Versamax and I've never had to clean the gas system. Only times it's ever malfunctioned on me was when the recoil spring wore out after around after 10000 rounds
Have you reviewed the Remington 870 SPS Super Magnum Waterfowl? I am highly interested in that shotgun as I am just getting into waterfowl/goose hunting. I'm finding out it's a costly endeavor and, although I do like the V3, I was considering something a little cheaper. Can you let me know your thoughts on the 870 SPS Waterfowl? Thanks.
Bolt handle flying out. How common is that? Does that happen with all autos? (I'm replacing mine with a knurled handle but thinking maybe I need to pack the old one in a pocket when hunting, just in case ...)
While I love the V3, I would never call it reliable in the past. Not when so many owners had cam pins breaking and were unable to buy a replacement bolt carrier. If RemArms has solved that problem, I might be in the market for a new one.
That was a good test Steve I got a v3 at the old Remington and I love it but it looks a little different than that one the only gripe I have with mine is sometimes a shell will catch pushing it into the tube and if you want to just pull the shell out of the chamber it's about impossible without just unloading the gun because it releases the next shell before you can get the one out of the chamber.but I've never had it misfire or hangup yet mabe 1500 rds in and I'm the shits when it comes to cleaning my guns I just don't like I know I should so if one of my shotguns hangup it's usually my fault for not cleaning them
Hey man, I don't know if you know this but the V3 has a shell catch right in front of the trigger guard. Press it forward and it will lock the next shell from coming out.
Its pretty much a Benelli M4 clone. My buddy had one, started having light primer strikes and misfires due to it. Replaced parts, still continued. From searching on the internet this is not uncommon on these guns.
For you guys that own this and an 1100 can you tell me if it handles like the 1100? The reason I ask is because I’m looking for a duck gun. Decades ago I owned an 1100 that I just couldn’t miss with. If it’s like the 1100 and is reliable it would be a no brainer. However I just ordered a 940 Pro waterfowl and I can send it back if I don’t accept it at the FFL. So I’m very curious if I should keep the 940 or exchange it for the V3.
No. They changed the COG to be more forward to help with swing I guess. Instead of that fast, accurate pointing feeling of the 1100 I find I have to swing through the target to feel when to shoot with V3. V3 does swing a little smoother, but 1100 feels so natural to me I can just poke shoot with good accuracy. In defense of V3, I haven't handled any gun that points better than 1100. Although V3 is a good gun I would recommend getting both V3 and Sx4 in hand before making a purchase. I don't find that v3 has a noticeable difference in recoil reduction if any when compared to sx4. I far prefer the ergonomics of Sx4 over V3, but that's just my preference.
@@saltyOG Well while I like the 1100, I got away from using it. I did a lot of layout boat hunting in salt and fresh water, it would have really beat it up. I pretty much stopped using it all together. I prefer a slimmer gun in hand and the ability to change chokes. Although I don't use it very much I still love it. One of my favorites is a 28ga 1148. If you want a sub gauge for small game, upland birds and even ducks with bismuth, that handles similar to an 1100, grab one of them. They're fairly cheap. Both of mine are 60 YO or more and still shoot great.
I have owned a Remington Versa Max since 2010, and it is an absolute workhorse and never has failed to perform. This V3 looks like an awesome shotgun, but I was wondering, has anyone heard any info about a Versa Max 2 in the works, or is the V3 its spiritual successor?
May be a silly question, but where can you even find this gun to purchase? I’ve been waiting for you to drop a review of it, and then the review comes out and I can’t seem to find them anywhere in this configuration. In my opinion the new Kryptek one is hideous. The whole gun comes from the factory looking rusted. I don’t know what’s wrong with good ol bottomland or Max 7 but regardless, I’d like to be able to buy some form of the V3 as easily as it is to buy an SBE3 or SX4
I just picked up a v3 field pro from fleetfarm. It was the last one, I’m sure in a couple months they’ll be back in stock once consumer spending slows down.
The system is undoubtedly different, however, when John Browning brought forth the semi auto A5, everyone thought he was crazy and now look. I applaud the designers for daring to be different, that road is always rocky. Remington needs our support folks, we're losing American firearm tradition more and more everyday. I love Winchester but it's no longer domestic, I'm seriously overjoyed that Steve went Mossberg. USA! USA! USA!

-Action spring not in buttstock to get wet when in the swamp
-Raised vent rib barrel
-3 round magazine tube length; forearm is not too long; gun rides higher when using a sling to help keep it out of the water
-action spring guide rods can be used to push out trigger group pins; can fully disassembly in the field without tools
-bolt handle is located in the middle of the bolt and not the front like most; you can press the bolt release button with your hand on top of the action (vs having to reach under the action) and the bolt handle will not slam into you; makes quick work of loading an open bolt after you just missed three times
-appropriate weight and balance
-gun fits me well
Cons:
-bolt is complicated; small parts (video did not show bolt disassembly)
-bolt/action reassembly sequence not robust (as video showed, must install bolt handle with bolt in exactly the right position or it will lock the bolt)

@@Gunrunner223 the browning silver was perfect blend of browning Gold reliability with a nod to the A5 Hump. I love it . I added 1/2” to stock , and my scores improved drastically! Running a Carlsons gold ported Sporting Clays choke in Light Mod. Never change it .
Remington Versamax would be mechanically better and simpler , and the gas pistons copied Benelli M4 ARGO system . Great video ! Wish you review a Versamax in future.
Yes Versamax is better
Highly regarded in the 3 gun circuit as well. Comes apart like a AR and runs just as good
My rem arms m700 is an amazing gun too, I've got it down to .6MOA consistently on factory ammo, thats better than any rifle I've ever owned.
(Reportedly bc of the port system)
Thanks for another great review!
Must’ve been Apex. I think it has something to do with their crimp and the V3’s gas ports
Big green might be back fellas....gettin good feed back all the way around from rifles to shotguns...hell there rifles now are comin with 5r barrels and timney triggers from factory thats awesome!...i would like to see the new rem arms "870" and "1100" against the old ones that will be the real test.
V3 versus SX4 please, gonna buy one or the other
I had one before Remington sold out.
That’s weird because the new company took my old model 700 and got it right back to me.
@@poacher-ec9zo Well, maybe it because I bitched them out and told them I would never buy another Remington. They told me they would not honor any of the previous warranties from the real Remington! So, no problem, they can stick it! Love my Browning!
What issues were you having with the gun?
What was the fix, I have 2 versa maxes and a V3 that all have the same problem. I love the guns except for that.
I agree i have an early versa max waterfowl editition. Easier to take apart than these v3s and has been super reliable. Gun spits out whatever shell you put in and is fairly light recoil
Looks like a good gun period great review as always period glad to see that you kept the original chokes in it period
I wonder if you should add a patterning test to each of your shotgun reviews.
Love my V3. Cycles everything. As you found out the disassembly is quirky and a pain but the shooting ability of it makes up for it.
26”,1187 is my favorite shotgun. Like the maxus also
I had 1100 Remington years ago , still miss it , but. this one , not for me , too messy taking apart etc . i ll stick now with my Benelli Auto, simple to take down , light, BUT a bit difficult ,to Un load in the semi dark evenings without dropping the shells in the mud ,with cold hands , my only criticism, compared to un loading the Remington Gas Auto easy straight pull back ! BUT still got my old Rem 870 pump, two sets barrels as back up , i d never ever sell ! !
How was the recoil compared to the SX4 and 940? You should do a review on the DECKED box, they have a new design with 30% more storage and a few features.
Thanks! Love my V3!
Love them. When is the 20gvs20g inertia vs gas coming out
my buddy and his brother inlaw had the v3's from way back and they were the biggest piles of crap. my buddys brother inlaw sent it in 2 or 3 times and it still never worked like it should have. my buddy, had cycling issues with his, and i heard so many other people had tons of issues with theirs as well. so hopefully these are better
I love all the remington pump guns I have. I always wanted a versa max back when I couldn't afford one. Now that I can afford one, you can't find them.
Awesome video thanks man. Love to see you get your hands on a new Versamax 2!
I would love to see the Impala Plus and Gforce Arms One (Benelli m2 clone) tested as more budget friendly options
Thanks.
Own the SBE3, VM, SX3 and SX4. The VM is the softest shooting of the 4, also the heaviest. Doesn’t really matter, as it’s a designated turkey gun.
SBE 3 or SX4?
What do you think of the SX4?
Bolt handle flying out. How common is that? Does that happen with all autos? (I'm replacing mine with a knurled handle but thinking maybe I need to pack the old one in a pocket when hunting, just in case ...)
Steve, which 12 gauge shotgun has the softest recoil? Remington V3, Winchester sx4 or the Mossberg Pro?
I have one and it has never failed me. The boys make fun of my cheap gun but its amazing. Very soft shooting
@@austinbeachy3873 Hey you just made the day I went and checked mine your right thanks for the tip
How Loud it is ? If some one breaks in ur house and u don't wana wake up neighbors and just scare thieves away?
amazing 8:58
I had trouble with assembly also.
Would love to see you review a Remington 1100 competition. Best value I have seen for top target gun.
I like how they come up to the shoulder and just point so accurately without a thought. Last I saw they were 1400$.
Very good review. Love this gun!
Finally. Been waiting for this one!
Do a shotgun showdown Remington v3 vs Winchester sx4
Its pretty much a Benelli M4 clone. My buddy had one, started having light primer strikes and misfires due to it. Replaced parts, still continued. From searching on the internet this is not uncommon on these guns.
V3 vs 940 ??? It will be a great comparison. 😊
What would make this gun a bigger success is Models in Trap and Skeet- Sporting.
I’d love to see you do a video on a ATA neo x
Gforce Arms G-1 waterfowl shotgun review next!!!
dude hip shooting thats impressive out of 25 shells how many dove do you kill
For you guys that own this and an 1100 can you tell me if it handles like the 1100? The reason I ask is because I’m looking for a duck gun. Decades ago I owned an 1100 that I just couldn’t miss with. If it’s like the 1100 and is reliable it would be a no brainer. However I just ordered a 940 Pro waterfowl and I can send it back if I don’t accept it at the FFL. So I’m very curious if I should keep the 940 or exchange it for the V3.
I've had the 1100 the 1187 and the V3. All seem to shoot equally well for me. I have not shot the 940 but have heard only good things about it.
@@rustyshacklfur2637 appreciate the report. Like you the 1100 to me is just that good.
I would think that there will be a Versa Max coming. The V3 is only a 3” chamber, so there will be a lot wanting 3 1/2” that the Versa Max has.
Gas system really similar to the benelli m4
Would you choose the V3 over the newest Montefeltro?
Remington versa max review? Or Remington 1100?
I like these as like a lot of things you cannot get the in the UK.
Can you review the ATA Arms NEOX 12 next?!!?
Please do a review about benelli beccaccia supreme!!
Do a review on the ATA Neo X 12 gaugw
Can you do a review on the gearsan
MC312
do this vs the 940 pro
The only difference between this and the versamax is vented ports?
Versamax is a 3.5in gun with the recoil spring in the stock.
USA! USA! USA!
Is it legal to shoot lead at clays over water?
No. Sporting clays courses do it all the time
Looks like a great auto loader. Fast and reliable. I’m not sure I’d enjoy that takedown though. To many small rods and springs.
You get used to it fast, well worth it
Do you have the Fabarm L4S on your radar? (ELOS N2 Allsport would be nic e too! ;-) )
Let’s see a Retay Gordion now!
Is the front sight threaded? Can it be swapped with a classic style bead?? or is it stuck with hi viz?
You could if you wanted too. Have to get it drilled and thread in the new bead.
can you do a breda astro pls
Gas system is similar to benelli m4 for the armed forces
Let’s cut to the chase, List your 3 best upland, water fowl pump & semi auto shotguns also over under will be waiting for your reply
