Durango & Silverton Snippet - ALCo and a K-37 Teaming Up

  • During the K-28 100th Anniversary Photo Charter, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad still had a train to operate to Silverton. On both days of the charter, former White Pass & Yukon DL-535E #107 and K-37 #493 were in charge of the train. Since this was the only train to Silverton those days, the train was 15 cars long and most of the time completely booked, making it a slight challenge for one steam locomotive to operate this train. While it's unconventional, it was still pretty cool seeing an old ALCo working with an even older steam locomotive to get where they needed to go to.
