25,000 Steps on a Sacred Mountain Made me Emotional (Adam's Peak) 🇱🇰

- Sri Pada or Adam's Peak is a religious site in Sri Lanka. To reach the peak it takes 12,500 steep steps up (and back down) if you approach from Ratnapura. Thousands of Buddhists climb this peak daily to pray at the Sri Pada temple. While on my way up (and back) I saw people of all ages, from kids to 85 year olds. Some take a few days to reach and others do it in one day, like I did.

With my UA-cam videos I aim to show a different perspective than what most travel vloggers would do by interacting with people and really getting the local insights of the places I visit. No matter their social background I treat everyone equal. Sometimes this results in awkard conversations but I love it!

All donations will go back to the communities during my travels, this can be through staying or eating at small businesses or even donating this money right back through one of my donations projects.

Greeting from Indonesia🇮🇩
Thanks for tuning in! 😍
❤
Thank you very much my country Sri Lanka
Thanks guy.I'm from Sri Lanka
Terima kasih banyak
Lucky man, You had the chance to climb Great "Sri Pada"
The natural scenery of Sri Lanka is really as beautiful as a fairyland, and the higher you climb, the more beautiful the scenery becomes, which is very meaningful!
There are Camino de Santiago in the West, but I didn’t expect that there are also pilgrimage route in the East, and the roads are more difficult to walk!
After listening to Abi’s explanation, I admired the pedestrians and local vendors even more!
And of course, including you, Tim, you are a kind-hearted warrior!
The simplicity, warmth and kindness of Sri Lankan people are really impressive, the smile of the lady at the end lit up the whole road!
Thank you so much for sharing such a sacred, beautiful day, you are a legend, super great job! 👍😍👏
Thanks for tuning in and leaving thoughtful comments as usual!
@@timtense It is my honor, thanks to you too! Take good care! Happy travels! 👍🥰🙏
Hi Tim, this pilgrimage is one of the oldest known traditions in Sri Lanka Buddhists which is older than 2500 years. It is so important that in early days people used to write the inheritance to rightful heirs and do this because their return was not guaranteed as the journey was so treacherous those days, evidently.
Mr Tim thanks for showing sripadaya to the world.Buddha bless you..and you wery lucky to see Buddha feet .. Respect and i do salute you..
you've tried that too? Lol me too. It was a freaking adventure right there. First it sounds like nothing. But once you climbed 500+ stairs you know the deal haha. The best part was the down hill. When I was coming down it felt someone's pulling me towards the ground. And it took so many hours for me to get down. I was emotional. But now what left is full of happy memories. Now I really wanna go again. But with my stuff I won't be able to visit Sri Lanka soon. But it's definitely in my wish list alongside with Maldives
Wow 🥺♥️
Yeah, insane experience but no regrets. My legs were sore for a week after it though 🤣
@@timtense LMFAO have you tried that massage center? That traditional one? I stopped by for a massage. Ngl it was hella comforting mate. My legs were shivering due to heavy load. But once I got it it reduced as a miracle
In Sri Lanka, we walk on the right side and drive on the left for safety reasons.
God bless you travel....❤
walk on the right side for safety reasons, but drive on the left side bcz of british influence
When you always walk on the right side, specially if there is no sidewalk, you can see vehicles coming to your front.because vehicles are always driving on the left. It’s a safe way rather than vehicles are coming from behind.
You can see vehicle front of your side.
Yes..the reason is visibility of the upcoming cars.
When we walk cars are facing us and driving.so we can see what they are doing and walk accordingly.p
Aggala is a sweet and peppery delight which consumed more than 2500 years by Sri Lankans specially while they are travelling in Cold climates. The pepper gives a burning sensation and that activates the heating system of the body. That's basically a portable heating machine.
Ure exactly right bro👍👍
Me and my friends climbed this sacred route 10 years ago. It was the most spiritual experience I have had in my life. Nobody I talk to understands the monumental task it is to climb this route. Thank you for sharing this and reminding of this awesome part of my life
"Hey Tim, there are 7+ trails to climb Sri Pada. You were climbing through one of the longest and oldest trail. The Hatton Nallathanni trail is the shortest one, and most foreigners are going through it."
I was staying in Ratnapura so I decided to approach from that side. It was a hard journey but I loved every kilometer of it!
@@timtense yes bro you have selected most beautiful trail♥️ Sad to say you have missed nice views due to mist. I have lot images captured in there If you interested I can send them to see the view♥️
From what I've heard, the most beautiful trail is Kuruvita route. Isn't it?
@@PasanArunajith Nope Daraniyagala Udamaliboda trail but it is not suited for Fournier thats why I didn’t mentioned that.
කොහෙද බං 7+ තියෙන්නේ. 3යි තියෙන්නේ. බොරු කියන්න එපා...
Very proud of you man, love from 🇱🇰❤️
Thanks bro coming for Sri lanka 🤍💫 so you very kind and help full. I appreciated your work. I think you very lucky traveler in this world. So Tim I watching your video. God blessed you 🤍💫
Tim,in 24:25 you saw the old path which people used to hike Sri paadha but now it's comfortable.right? My dad said in the past when people used that path(what u saw),they sold their staff like lands, houses, animals and almost everything because they were truly unsure about their life.(there had no stairs even)Some died on the way while the lucky ones reached the peak and realized their sacred belief in their life.❤ Every religion in Sri lanka has different believes about Adam's peak. We, Buddhists believe that's Lord Buddha's foot print. That's the story of Sri Paadha and that is the beauty of Sri Paadha.(Sri=sacred, paadha=leg)🙏🇱🇰
Thanks Tim for travelling in Sri Lanka & specially climbing" Sri pada" our sacred mountain.
In a road if u walking right side, vehicle driving left side.so vehicles are coming in front of u
But if vehicles drive right side , u walking right side vehicles are behind u so u should always turn around to see what's coming to your own safety✌️✌️❤
Correct 💯
In Srilanka vehicles are drive in left side that's why pedestrian work in right side....then they can see coming vehicles .....ur u programs amazing we like ....hope to see u in SL
Mr. Tim, again you come from our beautiful country. Your support for the promotion of this country is greatly appreciated, sir. ❤
You did it Tim. Be happy and have a blessed life. Triple gem bless you. Sri pada is most sacred place in the world.✨🙏✨🇱🇰

You've done a great work.

✌️
It is not easy to climb sri pada even for sri lankans. You are a hero. I think you started it without knowing how much challenging it is
love from sri lanka!! but please visit the Sri Pada again cuz u gotta see the "IRA SEWAYA" that means the sun rise from the top, i guarantee you it will be one of the most beautiful scenes you've ever seen,
Strong man in the world.Mr.Tim❤
Tim You are a gem for tourist destinations.
You are so lucky. Because you went Sri phada 🙏
Thanks Tim for your visits & contributions for promoting Sri Lanka tourism ❤
I learned one of the biggest lessons in my life when climbing that mountain. That is;
if we focus on finishing any task, it feels very big and harder to complete, and we feel disappointed. But if we just focus on what we are doing now and keep doing it without thinking of the result or the end, we won't feel much hardness and will be able to do it without realizing that we have already finished it.
In here, if we keep thinking about reaching the top of the mountain, we feel it's very hard and disappointing. But if we just focus on only the next step or a few steps ahead, we won't feel that much difficulty, and can reach to the top without even knowing it.
And it changed my life. ❤❤
Enjoyed your beautiful video. The way you gave the running commentary was impressive. Neither too much or too little.
Aggala, the last sweet ball you ate,has black pepper with the intention of making your body warm it’s said.
Thanks. Good luck Tim❤
no this time you are the real legend for us.. Love from Sri lanka . Such a amazing effort keep it up tim .... I am so sad for the foggy
Do it again on a clear day… it is out of this world.. view is to die for 😊

Why hasnt tim resppnded to you?😢
@@A.MBandaramanike He's ignorant
I think he missed this cmnt ❤@@EllisWR
@@minura1 I feel sad about it
@EllisWR don't worry bro ♥️
Actually the other route has about 5000 stairs to climb the Sri Pada [isolated] mountain but this route may contains twice of that. It's a sacred mountain in Sri Lanka famous for Lord Buddha's foot print of Buddhism. And the god who protects the mountain is called God "Saman" [ Saman Deviyo ]. AND FOR THOSE WHO CLIMBS : PLEASE DO NOT PUT GARBAGE ON SIDEWAYS. Thanks for visiting our country! #TimTense❤️.
#VisitSriLanka ❤🇱🇰
Well written 👏
You have to climb only 5000 steps when you take the path from Hatton. The path he took is from Rathanapura Palabaddala and it has more than twice of the steps that Hatton path has
@@edwardgraham3475 yes!
This route has more than 12,000 steps up

When you start climb Sri Paadhaya, no one will say that you can not do it. It is tradition to encourage people and blessing. Bringing "Aggla" is also unique tradition to keep energy while climbing.

Sri Paada pilgrimage has its own culture among buddhist sinhalese...You heard that people were chanting slogans..And you were offered Aggala..that pepered aggala is a part of Sri Paada pilgrimage culture..We have bunch of Sinhala words that we use only for this pilgrimage not in other places...Our Kings used to climb the mountain on this Rathnapura road..you are going through that path of Kings.Namo Buddhaya!!!

I eagerly watched how you were climbing the Sri Padha mountain which I have been to around 10 times.
You are so lucky guy. This is one of the most sacred place of buddhist people. 😊
It's not Adams peak
It's Sri Padasthanaya.

Im not missing any of your videos tim 😍♥️ its very enjoy to watch all of your vlogs 🎉🤗😁 stay safe mate lot of love from sri lanka 🇱🇰
Glad you like them!
you are lucky .. when I was climbing there was a lot of crowded and I couldn't reached it.
We took the shorter route. Set out at 11.30pm, got to top around 8am. Got back to bottom around 5pm 😆 we must have set the record for the longest climb in recent history. It was pouring for the last 3 hours or so. The view was incredible at the top and it was the most amazing view I’d ever seen. A bit like looking from a plane but even better as so detailed. Seeing the sun rise above the clouds was surreal. And hardly anyone there as it was Sri Lankan new years. In the olden days, people used to write their will before setting off as they didn’t know if they will make it back. They used to climb for days as there were hardly any steps and no hand rails. Interesting fact: the shadow of the mountain is seen on the clouds instead of on the ground as it usually would be. Someone who went with us but got up to the top before sunrise videoed it for us to see.
You are a good person man. Good luck ❤️
Thank you so much 😀
You are such a sweet person …
You climbed the sacred sripada mountain. Now you're a true legend tim 😊
