Do you guys play with many runners who slide to get the balls? If we're talking fractions of a second, depending on the surface, that can make a huge difference. Any thoughts on that? Or on what to wear when doing it?
Also, as a former track athlete, I can confirm, you want your more powerful/dominant leg in front when starting as it is bent and you get more drive out of the foot ahead (the back leg barely contributes to your start). Pyong's start also shows how much your arm drive propels you forward. Watch some 100m Olympic finals and you'll see some of the best ways to start - though with the run only being 9m, most sprinters aren't fully upright by then so there probably needs to be some modification

Thanks Michael for confirming the leg positioning! and very interesting thoughts!
There was a few seasons where we tried the sliding method actually! It looked and felt really nice when we were able to pull it off. Unfortunately the court surface depending on venues wasn't consistent enough to be able to stick with the sliding method.
In terms of what to wear. Dodgeball is still relatively new. Personally, after 6 years of dodgeball we are still trying to figure out the 'best' shoes for dodgeball haha
Soo many factors to take note of, but it is one of the many questions we will answer eventually!

How many metres to the central line? Would it help to practice short distance sprinting or count your steps?

8 metres from the base lines to the central line. A tip we heard recently is to look at how 100m Olympic sprinters run and learn from their form.

7:26 Bottom-right player #13 isn't touching the line. Does it matter?

It technically should be on the line, but it looks like if he puts his heel down then he'd be on and behind the line which is fine. If he put his heel down and he was in front of the line that wouldn't be fine.
