- It's episode 346 and if seven people fart in the woods, then, sorry, you're possessed now! This week Em takes us down an old English rabbit hole with the story of John Darrell, one of the most fraudulent exorcists of all time. Then Christine covers the devastating case of Lucie Blackman. Thither is a shit of an able bodied horse... and that's why we drink!
Rare book librarian here - the super long book titles from that period were actually written that way to summarize the book the way the back of a book does nowadays!
Also fun fact, the reference database for these early modern books is literally called the “short-title catalog” because even librarians don’t want to say the full title

Wow I feel for her father he made sure she didn’t die for nothing. He used the “blood money” for his other children and even set up a trust. Love that he clarifies that he didn’t take it just to take it. He made good of his resources. I hate that Lucy died but she uncovered a serial predator and was able to get Justice for the other women even if she wasn’t able to get it herself right away. She definitely didn’t die in vain. Thank you for sharing this story Christine I’d never heard of this case before.
First off, I discovered the podcast maybe 4 months ago. Instantly fell in love with the mix of spooks and true crime.

I have to say for Em that I thoroughly enjoy both of your stories every week! I am so pleased that you cover a haunty kinda story bc there are soooo many true crime stories out there but I find it harder to find good scary or ghost stories. I love the history that goes along with them. So I need both of your stories, especially Em's creepy ones!😍

This was such a great episode. I wasn't into the witch hunter story at first, not a big fan of witch trials but it was so entertaining. The entire episode was funny, heartfelt and sad.

Guys, I love you both! I started listening to ATWWD earlier this year and I've been obsessively listening to old (and new) episodes ever since. I absolutely love the spooky ghost/cryptid/alien stories that Em tells and the caring attention Christine gives to every victim, sharing their stories. I've listened to a lot of true crime/paranormal podcasts and you guys are by far my favorite! I've also been doing a lot of self exploration this year (started identifying as nonbinary with she/they pronouns) and your show has made me feel so welcome and accepted just as I am. Never stop! ❤ P.S., I live in VA and am hoping you guys will make it back out here for a show next year! 😉

I love both Ems and Christine’s stories but I’m a big fan of the paranormal
Just wanted to mention to Em that "kanji" is system of Japanese writing but "congee" (which is pronounced the same way) totally is a food! It's what I'm eating right now as that part of the episode came up. A savory rice porridge that's popular in China and southeast Asia. Really great with some pork meatballs and fish sauce :)

The only reason I ever may not pay as much attention to Em’s story is if it’s about aliens. I don’t know why but personally I just can’t get very into those stories. I still listen and laugh along with all the witty banter but those stories are ones even on other podcasts like Mile Higher where I just am more interested in other topics. 🤷🏻♀️ All this to say I came for the spooks and have stayed for how funny y’all are and the good vibes

Just started the episode, and as a fellow Squishmellow lover (and stuffed toy super fan), I am currently hunting for the Kuromi skeleton squishmellow. 😭 My current favorites are Tadita (the phone) and Silver (bag of gummy worms). I quite literally dove into a bin of squishmellows in a packed Five and Below to find Silver, because I couldn’t decide on which one I wanted.

WIth all the tragedy of what happened with Christine's story and understanding the frustration from the family's side - I'm really happy with how she handled the perspective from the Japanese cops' side too. The cultures, laws, and ways of handling things are so different I get that it was frustrating and difficult from both sides.
