    Another great video Andy.👍
    One-day Andy, I hope you can get me to do fpv. I've built one before, I built the one what ua... "stew" built, a couple off year's ago. But i couldn't give it any power, or it would hit the grass very hard.
    Since then, I've tried to get back into the memory, but i can't seem to get in.
    So I quit. And never did do fpv.
    I even brought a tiny hawk off eBay, but that won't work. I plug the battery in to bind it, but it just keeps bleeping and flashing red.😠
    That's what happens if you don't know what your doing. 😕
    Anyway, keep them videos coming Andy.👍👍

I have a ISDT PC-4860 for my ISDT D2 charger and that works awesome too, but D2 is way too slow in discharging. ISDT should do a high power storage charger with cell balancing built in.

    • @AndyRCchannel

      All chargers built in discharge rate is slow. Some companies will advertize a 40a discharge rate but only in Regen mode. Which is basically hooking up another bettery to power the charger and transfer it to there. To me that is not discharging.

    Be aware that its 200w max. A 6s will max at approx 8a discharge. So the only way to get 25a discharge is on a 1s or 2s. Thats not something most would ever need. A 3a setting would be handier. I have found the bluetooth app to be very buggy and semi-functional, android.

    I have the FD-100 and really like it. If I come back from the flying club with an unflown 4000mah 4S, I can just set it for a 6A discharge. I have to put it outside the front door due the noise of the fan (!) but it will beep to let me know it's finished so all's good. It's way better than running noisy fans for hours as my iChargers discharge at a whole 1A! New one looks good but, at over £60, I'm happy to wait a bit longer with the FD-100!

    Finally someone with enough sense to know that these don't need to balance discharged batteries. I always see people complaining that these don't balance. Cells aren't perfectly matched so they will always be a little off balance when discharged. But when you charge it they will become mare balanced towards the end of the charge. Cells with lower IR will discharge a little more than ones with higher IR, but will charge a little faster when charging. My charger balances the cells at 3.8v each cell when put into storage mode and it drives me crazy bc when I balance charge the pack the cells will be off balance towards the end of the charge due to non perfect cell matching and the charger has to spend way more time tying to balance the cells.

    @majorlee9714 5 років тому +2

    Hi Andy, excellent review. I suspect you may have missed a trick tho regarding the usefulness of its discharge count. Here's what i mean..... Its highly unlikely that it only uses the fans to discharge @25amps. Its must have at least one other component to act as a load, like a resistor. Those massive heatsinks are likely sitting on it / them. So even if its just a simple resistor, at those types of current / heat going through it will affect its lifetime. Making that number a much more relevant one (for some people at least).
    Afterall, if it was only using the fans, then you wouldn't need the heatsink, right? 😜

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  5 років тому

      I thought It would be clear I was simplifying how it works considering neither fans or heatsinks result in bluetooth? However for your theory to be correct the manufacturer would need to tell us how many cycles It can take before Its no longer going to work. Coupled with the fact that once setup, people are barely going to use the app, or might not even want to use the app at all. If those figures are as important as you say they are. They should be presented on a display on the side? and the fd100 should also have one? Especially as It seems to get warmer and has a dedicated app that does not show those figures. But as a user who would run these until they no longer work anyways. Being able to reset the figures for a new batch of lipos would be more useful than an accumulated figure which tells me nothing other than how much it rained.

    • @majorlee9714
      @majorlee9714 5 років тому +1

      @@AndyRCchannel hmm, dont want to argue with you... so i'll just say... no (on all counts) and leave it at that :/ 😂

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  5 років тому

      @@majorlee9714 haha Its a discussion not an argument and a valid one. But they would have to tell us how many uses it can have to justify not resetting that number. I think the trick we are both missing is that when that figure gets high there wont be enough digits for it to read correctly (look at the picture of the app on the site) Its had some 500 discharges and the watt hour accumulation has disappeared. So perhaps the trick is you will buy another when the figures no longer show up...a marketing trick.

      Major Lee discharge count may be just so they know if a unit is returned, if it was really doa vs used for a while.

I am looking for the SP2417 400watt and or SP2425 600 watt. I can not seem to even find anything on either of those two other than they are listed on their site. The only one I can find is the SP3060 and that is more than I need. Maybe the other two are so new that they have not released yet or they decided to just not make them and forgot to remove it from their website. Anyways I really want one of those. They had not fallen off they were just not there at all and the box was new and shrink wrapped. Pretty bad QC. Starting to lose faith in ISDT. I have been using ISDT stuff for a long time but quality is deteriorating.

      @@AndyRCchannel How is it not Discharging?
      It moves the energy from where you do not want it (the lipo pack) to a lead acid battery where you want it. (to be reused later)
      Then you can use that again to recharge the lipo again at the field (minus the normal conversion losses)
      This thing just converts the energy into heat with a voltage cut off.
      The cellpro 8 does ALSO discharge at 10 amps normal (heater mode)

The ISDT AC chargers can charge up to 12 amps each from AC which suits my needs, If it doesnt suit yours im not sure why this video is of interest to you? The cellpro 8 perhaps can discharge internally at 10 amps although other users tell me they get no where near that but they also cost (for the v2 229 dollars) where as the cheap one you have linked to says it can discharge internally 0.24a They also dont seem to be geared towards miniquad pilots so I think you are preaching to the wrong crowd. As for discharging to a lead acid battery, that's definitely not where I want it. Although im not aware of the type of lead acid battery you are using (flooded, sealed sla) It would have to be pretty massive to safely charge / discharge at 40A and I dont want another brick in the process. Now I imagine you are not charging or discharging at 40 amps using regen but rather trying to make a point. Which is why Ill stick to these very convenient fast discharges which are wireless and dont take up any space, and you dont have to gain an understanding of how to safely operate lead acid batteries when there are enough things to keep up on in this hobby. because its dangerous and highly inconvenient compared to these devices id say. Quad components are kept cool by the air flowing around them. You would also have to bypass the pid loop otherwise they would just go to full throttle held down and the only way to do that is have it teathered by USB which would just get mangled in the props unless you use the speedybee device. No matter how you turn it, these ISDT dischargers would have been so much better when they had a functional balance lead connection:
    A: It’s way safer, you would not need to monitor the cells.
    B. Your lipos will last longer as now you basicly always need to balance when you charge again. And that involves continues charging and discharding of all the other cells when only ONE is a bit lower.
    C. In general you have plenty of time when you discharge. Sometimes you need to charge for unplanned flights (the wheater cleared up for example) so if a pack in storage state is balanced than you also win time.
    The Aokoda system remains a far better system in that way, sadly using the bulbs and the heat that comes out of them it aint that conveniant. So yeah I mostly use my 2 FD-100’s, but a balance discharge function remains missing on the ISDT’s. Saying you only use lipo’s that never have an unbalance is a bit of a fairytail I think, I have loads of lipo’s and having inbalances on them is not a weard thing ;)

      @@JustaPoke which method are you using to measure internal resistance? the ones built into chargers are massively inaccurate. Something thats not talked about much. People can argue until the sun goes down about these devices not balancing the cells but does your plane or quadcopter balance the cells when it drains the lipo? for me this is just a safe way of doing it fast when it rains, and even if it had the balance function you would still need to monitor the cells. You should never charge lipos unattended. A simple lipo checker with a beeper attached to the balance port would put the overly caucious person at ease however I usually check the internal resistance of my lipos regularly so Iv had no problems with any storage discharge. If you go deep into this most people making DIY discharges agree that balancing them is over kill. You should be more worried about the condition of the lipo before you put it on a charger or discharger

    • @JustaPoke
      @JustaPoke 5 років тому +1

      @@AndyRCchannel I use the ISDT D2's or Junsi iChargers mostly for that. Not aware they are massively inaccurate but that again you need to know how to use the function and give it some time to give the reading. Can always use a simple multi-meter to compare. Even IF they are not super accurate, they will still give me a good idea what's going on inside a lipo. For example the Gaoneng brand you use I've notist very high resistance on some from a batch I bought. Was not that happy with them. One can have different opinions on what's prefered when to balance is ideal, but again I personely find over-charging a cell to balance another far less ideal than balance on discharge. I also find fidling around with voltage checkers is a bit dumb when you already have a rather smart device at hand. Especially now when we move from 6 to 25A on the 200 BT model! Would be happy to pay 10 bucks more if it removed the need of a battery checker alarm. And to let it turn the discharge simply OFF by itself when it reads someting is going wrong with a cell. Why would you NOT want that? With monitoring I mean you better stay in range of the discharger, I never leave the house but to many times I find myself using no checker with the FD-100's. If it had the connector simply on the device I doubt I would not plug the lead in. Ever. ;)

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  5 років тому

      @@JustaPoke nah you need a dedicated Lipo ESR IR checker to get a proper IR reading. The Wayne Giles Module is considered the most accurate I think hobbyking may still sell it but you will find its as expensive as a charger on its own. You can figure out for yourself why that might be. I have tens of chargers and they all read massively different figures from the same lipo. Id argue they arnt needed though and Im afraid any IR reading from the isdt chargers or any chargers will give you duff information. If you are measuring the internal resistance of a lipo then you already suspect something is wrong with it, otherwise you have too much time on your hands. As the forums say, people go far to deep with this subject. My opinion as well as the many people who DIY this system agree that a balance system is overkill. But Its a device so useful to me so thats why I made the video and also bought two.
