Just so everyone knows, the puzzle piece was originated in the UK in 1963 because the creator thought autism was “puzzling”. Like many behavioral health entities, they’ve since changed their stance. Many people, people with autism included, have reclaimed it and use it positively as my wife has done here. There are valid critiques about the puzzle piece that we are not dismissing. We use it as a recognizable symbol of acceptance and love. In addition, autism speaks is not the only organization that uses the puzzle piece nor was the organization mentioned in the description. This video was made with love and for the enjoyment of specific individuals who were aware of what it entailed and described to their specifications. Enjoy
@CK0991 we are enjoying this, and the teachers are watching now also!! I am so grateful we had a few tears. It's rare that people do such kind things for families like ours, so this is truly so special ❤️💙
I absolutely love this. I work with adults with autism. I create the curriculum that helps them improve their academic and work related skills so they can reach their goals and obtain employment. This really touches my heart, you’re amazing ❤
Hello, autistic person here! I think its really sweet seeing all the comments here of others talking about the autistic people in their life, but I thought I'd give some commentary/insight from a autistic person myself whose been very into ASMR for years. For many autistic people, we struggle with sensory issues. This can be noises (Sometimes becoming misophonia) smells, tastes (Some label us "picky eaters" when eating certain things is like literal needles! I can't have stirfry for example because the smell makes me sick) and lights (My mom is also autistic and doesn't like the lights in Walmart - They give her a headache) so ASMR is a big thing for alot of us as a way to calm down or passively stimulate us in a way we can control - both visually and audio wise! Expanding on "passively stimulate us", sometimes we can become overstimulated (I can't go into places without earbuds, because raw noise of resturants makes me feel scared and like the walls are close, when I was younger and didn't know I had autism I had meltdowns because of this) but sometimes the opposite can happen, and we become "under stimulated". Its a bit hard to describe if you don't have it yourself, but essentially its a kind of numb feeling. And we start to seek sensories that let us feel at ease (I rock back and forth idly alot, or fiddle with my hands in a certain way) I personally watch ASMR to both calm down from over stimulation, and keep my mind up with under stimulation :D Another thing, for me atleast, is I've always gravitated towards "cleaning" type ASMR because I'm a massive germphobe irl because of my autism. I get really freaked out if someones in my items or room, or even if they need to use my bathroom. I dust constantly because the sight of dust sets off a discomfort in my mind. So seeing things become clean (Or things being picked up) is very satisfying. One thing you might not know about autistic people is "special interests"! To put simply, these are very intense interests us autistic people cling onto and are very passionate about. For me, my main special interests are certain TV shows. I spend hours researching interviews with the shows creators to archive them. Or I get seemingly unrelated things (Like songs or bracelets) because of a minor similarity to the show. Why am I mentioning special interests? Well, surprisingly, vacuums are a huge magnet for us! Theres so many of them, a history, and coupled in with the sensories I mentioned earlier, its a really fun hobby for us interested in mechanics. Sorry this was a ramble.. :,] Like I said, I really appreciate all the kindness from people in the comments about the autistic people they know in their life. But I will admit, sometimes its a little isolating having a neurotypical (Someone without autism) person "speak" for us in a way. Or the assumption we're all younger people. So please, research about the many ways autism presents! Theres a saying in our community, "If you meet one person with autism, you met one person with autism". We are all very different individuals with very different needs and hobbies. You can really understand what we need if you take the time to understand our way of thinking, instead of trying to apply a neurotypical worldview to it. Love from the spectrum ❤
Hello. Thank you for sharing personal details about yourself. It really helps to provide further insight of the fact that autism looks so different across the spectrum. What I gathered from what other commenters have mentioned shows that they met, raised, support, and love their person or people with autism. To assume that anyone is coming from a place that exemplifies a neurotypical mindset to me would seem as though only autism represents neurodivergency. Yes, this video was inspired by a young group of kids and intended to raise autism awareness but, we don't put people in boxes while simultaneously discussing a specific issue. As I mentioned before, thank you for your insight. It is my hope that we've all learned a bit more from the information shared in the comment section. ❤
Beautiful B!!! So very kind of you. I have two 21 year old male autistic cousins and a non-verbal female cousin that’s 30+ I also have a friend who’s an attorney with 4 sons & 3 are autistic. The oldest is severely autistic and has to be cared for 24/7. My friend learned as an adult he is on the spectrum hence his children having autism. So it’s so nice to see positivity featuring autism. I have advocated for grants for fire departments to receive training on how to recognize autistic children or adults when they respond to a call & to have stickers or something so first responders know there is an autistic person in the residence when they’re providing help. Thank You B. It’s funny, I was rewatching a video on your channel and saw a few I haven’t seen & this one came up. Great work as usual!!!
Allen, thank you so much for sharing this with us all, and for advocating for those with autism. What you are doing is absolutely amazing and I'm hoping for success in this endeavor. If there is any way I can give support towards this cause please let me know! ❤
