I paint dozens of whopper ploppers from 60 mm up through 130s -- I use a strand of rubber skirting and wrap it around the shaft between the two sections of the bait. It works great and can be used over and over again. Another great tip is hook size and color. Use a 2/0 on the tail hook of a 130 and a 2/0 red hook on the middle hook. Most of the fish we catch with this set up t-bone those things rather than taking it from the tail end. Good luck painting but keep in mind it can get addicting and expensive.
