Having followed “ Frankenstein’s” original build, I’m so glad it’s still performing well for you 👍! I must agree on one point, even though I have one bike with a 300+ kilometer gas tank……I only have a 100 kilometer butt 😆!
As a cyclist I have learned that the pain in the arms and back comes from weak core muscles. It is important to keep the core strong. Doing so has helped me ride my bicycle for 6+ hours at a time when I'm out on those 160+km rides and has prevented me from having discomfort on my motorcycle.
Yes, interesting testimony. The main problem is, i don't make any exercise, which means i should ride my honda a lot more, until the pain went gone. Lol. :) Cheers.

Amazing you have time to respond to all of these chaps. I remember working as a mechanic at a Honda dealer. In the 1st models, CX 500's had a recall on cam chain related problems Hated to rip the little twins apart. Have to admit, your bike put the originals to shame in the looks dept. Beautiful bike, beautiful sound.

Time flies! Glad you still enjoy your racer! Ergonomics is really important when travelling. Therefore I would prefer a scrambler, or even better multiple bikes. One for "shorter & fun rides", one for touring. Recently I bought a Suzuki Freewind, which has some great potential to become a scrambler, and now ridden with it 1100km in 3 days. Mainly local roads, even some kilometers offroad, around 20 hours riding in 3 days. Of course alot of resting and sightseeing, but no pain in back, arms knees ... this simple bike impressed me!
An excellent review of the good, the bad, and the ugly of owning and riding a Café motorcycle. I can certainly agree you definitely hit the high points of Frankenstein. Nothing is perfect, but, Frankenstein is definitely a beautiful Café racer. And, as always, thank you for Racer TV, the Café racers only choice! Ride safe my friend and enjoy the rides as you take them! Hope you all are doing well….. Cheers:)
Thank you my friend for your support. I also think a lot of people is having the similar problems with the cylinder gaskets, just because there are no oficial informations about this. Because the absence of asbestos changes everything. Because the absence of asbestos on head gaskets, changes everything. I hope this video may be very helpful to many to solve this problem. Everything is great here. I hope the same from You. Thank you. :) Cheers.
I've been loving cafe racer for quite long and I'm about to get my first ever cafe racer which is a 250cc in a few days ahead and I'm really excited to get my hands on it. And this video answered my curiosity on cafe racer. Love this video. Thank you ❤
Splendid video, sir. Above all sincere. As you say, what is the best bike? It is the one that is really enjoyed. It doesn't matter, big or small; ugly or pretty; The best bike is the one you enjoy.
Frankenstein still looks awesome my friend!!!!! I hope your spring riding has been going well...ours has been not so nice with 6 degree weather and lots of rain....bikes are not happy! Bikers either!!
Thank you my friend for your kind comment. Your comment made realize how lucky i am about the weather. Here in Portugal is now about 20 degrees celsius. It might still be a bit cold during the night, with something around 12 degrees celsius. I really hope you could enjoy your bike very soon. Be patient, the good riding days will return. :) Cheers.
Great honest video Vitor It was nice to see Frankenstein again. She has aged well, the patina adds to her character. I have also had my head gasket leak. and the advice you gave me on how to retension the head was very helpful I have the same exhaust pipes as yours and I have added baffles to mine. But your sounds amazing I love my CX650 Cafe and I know guys that have ridden tham across Australia, they are a very reliable bike
Thank you Dear Steve. I think your exhaust pipes sound as good as the ones from "Frankenstein". The only difference, is probably on the way i record the sound. I usually use the GoPro camera to record the sound, because it captures a very realistic sound. I am very glad my tips/link will be helpful to you. Thank you my friend for your kind comment. :) Cheers.
Just a personal experience: I can definitely use mine on a daily basis, reliability wise I haven't really modded anything on a mechanical level that made it more unreliable or over-complicated or anything, the donor has always been a fairly simple machine with very little problems of her own. I have been working extensively on electric/wiring etc to be able to fit certain mods but they've worked fine ever since. Long rides? Not with my mono racer seat Comfortable? Not with my mono racer seat 😂 Still enjoy my 1 hour/2 hours trips though which to be honest is all I did even when it was a regular bike, otherwise I would have gotten a maxi enduro or something.
Thank you my friend for sharing your own perspective. It seems your major problem is not realy the mono racer seat, but only the butt. Just as someone already said here: "I have one bike with a 300+ kilometer gas tank……I only have a 100 kilometer butt. Loool :) Cheers.
Dear Victor; I have been riding my CX since I finished the transformation to cafe on July 2017, my experience is similar to yours without major issues so far, I can ride for two hours get off the bike half hour and get back on for others two hours, little discomfort here and there (my butt and lower back) but I love the bike!!!😣👍🏻
Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. As someone already said here: "I have one bike with a 300+ kilometer gas tank……I only have a 100 kilometer butt". lool. It seems you have a 2 hours Butt. Lool. Cheers.
I really love this channel.. bought my Cafe Racer Bike last week and almost half of my savings are used by that bike.. But it's okay .. I love motorcycles and I'll get old riding motorcycle with my son🤘⚡🏍️🖤
Cá em casa há uma CB750 Seven Fifty é uma grande moto, o meu filho adora-a e usa-a no dia a dia , diz ele que nunca mais a vende. Um excelente video como sempre.
Excellent video Racer., I think Frankenstein is ageing very well. Bikes of any age can have problems, nothing is perfect. I think riding a cafe racer or sports bikes for long distance is just a case of more ride time and getting ride fit, here in Oz every ride is a long ride. Take care and ride safe mate. Cheers
Thank you my dear friend for sharing your perspective. I can also testify that on long trips with good and straight roads, the riding position is not so bad, because the wind helps to keep the body up straight. The problem here in Portugal, is that most local/national roads, are full of curves, demanding a lot of braking and gearbox work. But like you said, after we getting used to, our body seems to be more and more resistant to fatigue and pain. You too. Thank you. :) Cheers.
i’ve been watching your channel for a few years and never have commented, but want you to know how much i have appreciated your sharing of the great bike builds around the world. I have great respect for your keen eye and meticulous attention to fine details… this being said, I have had many motorcycles, none of which i have built. I also love bicycles, and ride a considerable amount on various frame types that don’t include road bikes. I’ve actually just built my own using a $150. walmart bought aluminum frame, which is the only part of the bike remaining. the reason i mention this is because through my cycling experience, i’ve learned that simple changes ( which are much easier to make on a bike ) can make a huge difference in overall comfort… my point in all of this is that when you are comfortable , and everything feels right, it makes the whole experience much more pleasurable, and leaves you longing for more…in my opinion, there is no good reason to compromise comfort for coolness, because you can have it all when you get it right…there is a formula that works for each of us. the key is finding it. with highest regards, ashley
Dear Ashley, Thank you my friend for all your kind words. I appreciate your support, and especialy your tips. I think i understood what you said, but there is another very important point, that i forget to mention on this video. I can also testify that on long trips with good and straight roads, the riding position on my CX is not so bad, because the wind helps to keep the body up straight. The main problem here in Portugal, is that most local/national roads, are full of curves, demanding a lot of braking and gearbox work. And this is what causes fatigue in almost any motorcycle. Everytime we break on a curve, our arms have to handle with our weigh. And for me, this is the biggest cause of fatigue, and not so much the riding position. But i think I will all explain this on a future video. Thank you so much for your help. :) Cheers.
i guess it’s pretty good when the biggest problem is the curves in the road…keep ‘em rolling brother!…id never seen Your bike before now…quite a beautiful piece of machine and art…

I have run into many people that rebuild bike for the first time and want a cafe racer. They see the parts to put on the bike and ignore the internal requirements. As some one that has rebuild bikes, I have to explain that points, carbs, wiring, connections, voltage generation and regulation all require replacing on vintage bikes for daily riding. Neck and wheel bearings are 40+ years old. Of course, brakes need to be rebuild. Too often the coils are damaged by time. They over heat and the engine doesn't run when they get hot. It becomes a machine that they ride on the weekend and work on it all week. All the tweeking they have to do to get the modifications to run right. Vintage motorcycles come with vintage issues.
Un grand kiff As usual I love watching your videos; real and so pragmatic. So pleasant
Not only the "best bike you ever had"... absolutely still the best Cafe Racer ever on UA-cam. And the fact that it's that very special Honda CX 650 just make it timeless. I had a Honda CX 500 Turbo many uears ago and whenever I miss it I re-watch the "The Pure Sound of my Honda CX Cafe Racer" always at the top of my bookmarks ua-cam.com/video/Hm4W87MWkOU/v-deo.html
The longest I could ride my pseudo-cafe racer intruder 250 for 1 hour, i would get butt pains and the bike was not big enough, very uncomfortable. I can go longet on my Vulcan S now, but additional gel seats can help greatly.
Yes, your comment approaches a very interesting subject. I also noticed that a bike with a better riding position, will increase some pain on the butt. Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.
If the headlight lens is made of glass you can clean it with acetone (dimethylketone), if it is made of plastic you should have it polished internally by a coachbuilder
The headlight lens is made from plastic or acrylic. The main problem, is that the friction that causes the dust, is inside, and there is no way of removing the lens because it is fixed/sealed.
Thank you my friend for your kind comment. I find it very difficult to adapt the 6-piston calipers into a CX forks. The problem with these calipers is that they each have 3 pistons on each side, meaning they are very wide. And this forces the front suspension to have to be equally wide for the wheel to have enough space between the calipers. But here's some advice. First try installing a complete front suspension with calipers. And avoid the Kawasaki one. They brake well, but without being anything special. Cheers
Sou do Norte, a 30 km do Porto. Boas Curvas. :) Um abraço
Man ive been thinking about buying a motorcycle for a while and these old cafe racer builds are inspiring. I found a Honda CB750 is that an ok starter or maybe too big?
What I've learned from my Cafe Racer, a 1979 Moto Guzzi V50: - No, it's not reliable because sooner or later you'll find yourself at the side of the road; - Yes, it's reliable because there's no electronics except for the battery, and the whole bike is made of literally a handful of components, so whatever problem it may have you only need a bit of knowledge and the same 3-4 tools from your basic toolbox to McGyver the shit out of it; - Yes, you can travel with it, those engines (especially the 2 cilinders, low power, high torque ones like mine) love to run at constant, reasonably high rpms, so you can basically stay on the highway at normal cruising speed for as long as you have fuel; - No, I would not suggest to travel very long distances with it because your back will run out before the fuel; - Carburation is a bitch. You change the silencers? You have to do it all over again. You change air filters? Again. Did you do it for summer and now it's winter? Again. - It's a pain in the ass because cops really really really love to pull you over for the most creative reasons. I would suggest to have one for the fun of it, for dirtying your hands, for the learning experience and for weekend trips, *definitely* *not* as your main/only mean of transport.
Hi. I have been working on the design of the side covers during the last weeks, and I think I finally "hit the jackpot". It is now more beautiful than ever. Very classic, simple, loads of personality, and extremely elegant. But there is more. I finally found the perfect Builder to make it happen. I can no longer trust on Leonel's promises. I am very disappointed with him. I still haven't contacted the new builder, but I am sure he will be extremely interested on building my XS Project. Thank you for asking. :) Cheers.
I am glad you liked. My gloves are from Chester Jefferies cycling mitt leather/crochet. Unfortunately, they are not available anymore. www.chesterjefferies.co.uk/mens-special-offers/ But try to search on google for "gloves bike leather and crochet", and you will find similar gloves. :) Cheers.
It is the Bell Bullitt. But i don't recommend it. Too noisy, too expensive, and the head fit in not great either. But if you search on the internet, there are several other very similar helmets, with are a much cheaper, more comfortable, and almost identical to this Bell Bullit. :) Cheers.
At 9:50 great idea to pass 2 cars with 3 bikes crossing the center line before a bend. If someone would be the same idiot at the same time at the same curve from opposite direction, or a bus came or just a fast car... you would be dead. Congrats!
I would like to ask for your help. Would you be able to recommend, someone here in Portugal, who could properly restore to near original condition a fuel tank for a 1984 Honda VF1000R Motorcycle. Thanks so much
Oned a Hayabusa and you would think it was a proper bike for long fast trips. And it was to a certain degree when you fast got worn out in the body because of the rider position. I then bought a Triumph Street Triple and now i could travel far beyond what i could on the Hayabusa without resting.

Yes, that is how the cooling liquid was getting inside the combustion chambers, due to the lack of torque of the head cylinder bolts. The the head gaskets were ok, with no traces of being burn. After an extra torque on the cylinder head bolts, this never happened again. :)

It might still be a bit cold during the night, with something around 12 degrees celsius. I really hope you could enjoy your bike very soon. Be patient, the good riding days will return. :) Cheers.
Great honest video Vitor
It was nice to see Frankenstein again. She has aged well, the patina adds to her character.
I have also had my head gasket leak. and the advice you gave me on how to retension the head was very helpful
I have the same exhaust pipes as yours and I have added baffles to mine. But your sounds amazing
I love my CX650 Cafe and I know guys that have ridden tham across Australia, they are a very reliable bike
:) Cheers.
happy to see that awesome bike after five years,Thank you Racer TV...and I saw a light blue coloured Honda CB750 cafe racer during this video.❤ that

Just a personal experience:
I can definitely use mine on a daily basis, reliability wise I haven't really modded anything on a mechanical level that made it more unreliable or over-complicated or anything, the donor has always been a fairly simple machine with very little problems of her own.
I have been working extensively on electric/wiring etc to be able to fit certain mods but they've worked fine ever since.
Long rides? Not with my mono racer seat
Comfortable? Not with my mono racer seat 😂
Still enjoy my 1 hour/2 hours trips though which to be honest is all I did even when it was a regular bike, otherwise I would have gotten a maxi enduro or something.
Thank you my friend for sharing your own perspective. It seems your major problem is not realy the mono racer seat, but only the butt. Just as someone already said here: "I have one bike with a 300+ kilometer gas tank……I only have a 100 kilometer butt. Loool :) Cheers.

You too. Thank you. :) Cheers.
I had the gl500d silverwing as a first bike. I would buy this beautiful bike in a heartbeat.
Such a beautiful bike! I really enjoy jour channel, thank you so much for your work!
Thank you my friend for your kind comment. :) Cheers.
i’ve been watching your channel for a few years and never have commented, but want you to know how much i have appreciated your sharing of the great bike builds around the world. I have great respect for your keen eye and meticulous attention to fine details…
this being said, I have had many motorcycles, none of which i have built.
I also love bicycles, and ride a considerable amount on various frame types that don’t include road bikes. I’ve actually just built my own using a $150. walmart bought aluminum frame, which is the only part of the bike remaining.
the reason i mention this is because through my cycling experience, i’ve learned that simple changes ( which are much easier to make on a bike ) can make a huge difference in overall comfort…
my point in all of this is that when you are comfortable , and everything feels right, it makes the whole experience much more pleasurable, and leaves you longing for more…in my opinion, there is no good reason to compromise comfort for coolness, because you can have it all when you get it right…there is a formula that works for each of us. the key is finding it.
with highest regards,
ashley
:) Cheers.

curves in the road…keep ‘em rolling brother!…id never seen Your bike before now…quite a beautiful piece of machine and art…

The first problem I had with my CX cafe was paying the €500 for the TUV inspection so I can register it.....way worth it.
Still looks good!

The longest I could ride my pseudo-cafe racer intruder 250 for 1 hour, i would get butt pains and the bike was not big enough, very uncomfortable. I can go longet on my Vulcan S now, but additional gel seats can help greatly.

If you put a little lubricant in cream before screwing the headlight you can reduce friction and the formation of acrylic powder.
The problem is, my headlight seems to be sealed. I don't see any way to remove acrylic. But thanks for the tips.
Great sounding bike 👍
Thank you. I'm glad you liked my friend. :) Cheers.
He still loojs amazing.
May i ask are they CX forks and any mods to fit the 6 pot calipers ?
Thank you my friend for your kind comment.
I find it very difficult to adapt the 6-piston calipers into a CX forks.
The problem with these calipers is that they each have 3 pistons on each side, meaning they are very wide. And this forces the front suspension to have to be equally wide for the wheel to have enough space between the calipers.
But here's some advice. First try installing a complete front suspension with calipers. And avoid the Kawasaki one. They brake well, but without being anything special. Cheers

Man it feels like you just made this bike a few months ago. It's been 5 years 😮😮
Man ive been thinking about buying a motorcycle for a while and these old cafe racer builds are inspiring. I found a Honda CB750 is that an ok starter or maybe too big?
What I've learned from my Cafe Racer, a 1979 Moto Guzzi V50:
- No, it's not reliable because sooner or later you'll find yourself at the side of the road;
- Yes, it's reliable because there's no electronics except for the battery, and the whole bike is made of literally a handful of components, so whatever problem it may have you only need a bit of knowledge and the same 3-4 tools from your basic toolbox to McGyver the shit out of it;
- Yes, you can travel with it, those engines (especially the 2 cilinders, low power, high torque ones like mine) love to run at constant, reasonably high rpms, so you can basically stay on the highway at normal cruising speed for as long as you have fuel;
- No, I would not suggest to travel very long distances with it because your back will run out before the fuel;
- Carburation is a bitch.
Yes! cafe racer style ❤
Thank you very much...

Looool. Good one. Thank you my friend for sharing your very interesting perspective. . :) Um abraço
Oned a Hayabusa and you would think it was a proper bike for long fast trips. And it was to a certain degree when you fast got worn out in the body because of the rider position. I then bought a Triumph Street Triple and now i could travel far beyond what i could on the Hayabusa without resting.
Are you Attenborough's son? Nice calm speaker voice 😊
Lool. The truth is, this voice is not exactly real. I use this "robotic" voice created by software, because I'm Portuguese, and my bad English accent (and voice), can ruin the documentary character that I like for my videos. I already tried a real British voice in one of my videos, and, surprisingly, almost everyone hated it. Curiously, the robotic voice sounds really very real and professional for most non-English Speakers.:) Cheers.

7:02 There is obvious HG leakage on the intake side to the cooling jackets. Am i missing something? 🧐
Yes, that is how the cooling liquid was getting inside the combustion chambers, due to the lack of torque of the head cylinder bolts. The the head gaskets were ok, with no traces of being burn. After an extra torque on the cylinder head bolts, this never happened again. :)
