    Hi! Great design. I recommend people look at the parameterisation approach even if they aren't wanting to print this, as it is illuminating.

    Hi Mark This is absolutely fantastic work ! Such an engineering and powerful SCAD Skills ! I am pretty sure that there will be a lot of interest if you were to make a SCAD tutorial series.

      Hi Kerem, thanks! (and sorry for the late reply) I'm using OpenSCAD pragmatically, from my background as a software developer, with virtually no background in CAD. I doubt its "best practice" what I'm doing ;-). I hope the source code can be used by like-minded people, I invested a lot in quite thoroughly commenting it.     Excellent design. Could you maybe even modify it with an RC servo to make it a self-driving unit?

      The possibility to cope without motors and elctronics etc. is the heart and soul of this project, the lever and ratchet the very core of the design. It wouldn't make sense to put a motor on top ;-)

    I love your design! On another note: could you make a short overview on how you modded your liteplacer kit to be this rigid and accept the plates you show in your BlindsFeeder video. I would be really interested in the extrusion setup und mounting to a support surface as I struggle with wobble caused by my wooden table!

    I like your feeder. I have printed one and it went well, but it doesn't fit to the Index PNP machine. Any idea how I could adapt either the parameters on SCAD or/and the Index Pnp?

    Sorry, tried asking a question on the project site, but it would never accept the message (just sat there despite all mandatory fields set). The test print. Is the axle diameter changed when changing the clearance values please? Or is it only the size of the hubs. I am trying to work out how brave I can be printing out a batch of feeder bodies ahead of any chore of fitting fiddly bits :)

      There is a design principle, that the smaller/removable part has the play applied. So you only need to reprint the smaller/removable part when the play is not right. Still, I would not print multiple bodies before having tested everything together in one test feeder. Also test the fit (the squeeze) on the extrusion mount, which is in the body, of course.
      This feeder is optimized to work without any external (metal) parts. The downside is that everything must really fit together nicely, not too hard and not too loose. Once you figured it out, document everything and then go ahead and print a whole series.
      The idea is to invest a bit of time tuning up front, but then have a very, very cheap and easy to assemble feeder that you can multiply.

    how strong are those locks ? I think they will get loose over time being in same location

      First, please be aware of the use case, this is for hobby/ultra small scale prototyping. The feeder is intended to spend its life with the reel, i.e. there will be no reel change, it is so cheap you can print one for each reel. I expect my reels to last forever, because I will only use a few hundred parts of each in the course of my hobby and I think many people have the same use case ;-)

      Secondly, it is important to note that the mechanical holding force comes from the "squeeze" when you rotate the feeder onto the extrusion, not from the lock. This extrusion cutout is quite a sturdy piece of the model. The lock only holds that squeeze-rotation in place, i.e. ~90° to the actual forces, so only a small fraction of the load is on the lock (if that makes sense ;-)

      The feeder is designed so you can add reels of the full EIA specification width. I don't know if such monster reels exist at all today. But if you happen to have these, they fill up all the space and you can't then add the green holder on this side of the reel. Instead, use the clip to fasten the cover tape spool. The Reel will then only stay on the axle, if it is in a row with others. Well, that would then probably be a bit dodgy... but I wanted to fulfill the spec ;-)

    This looks amazing! I noticed you're printing in PETG, will it work with PLA or is it not strong enough?

      Sorry for the delay (somehow the notification stuff does not work).
      I don't think PLA will work, PETG is so much tougher and more elastic (for the springs).

    Hi this is an amazing design thank you for sharing this ! I wonder how if this still work well when the cover tape diameter is changing as long as this increase while in use. Do you please have any feedback on this ?

      @@markmaker4345 thank you for your reponse but I was speaking about the diameter growing when you have a lot of plastic on the spool. Are there differences between when you start and when your reel is almost empty ?

      As I understand it you rewind the plastic film which makes the tape advance but since the diameter of the reel that winds the plastic changes as you use it, this should have an influence on the progress of the band that is no longer regular. Is that the case ?

      @@JuPrgn Ah, ok I misunderstood.
      I'm afraid I can't say. Never used up a reel. The cover tape is just gobbled up, it does not pull the tape, so I'm not that concerned. And the spool can be very quickly emptied. Just pull off the cover, or simply unspool. The C shaped clamp makes it real easy and fast to reattach the new lead.

      No, the tape is advanced by that thing that looks like a dog, that Dmitry invented AFAIK. The spool just takes the slack in the cover tape.

      It does not work that way. The model is parametric. Best watch the entire video, especially the part about the test prints. You'll need to download OpenSCAD, but don't worry, you just enter Parameters in the easy to use Customizer GUI, no need to really have any OpenSCAD skills.

    Hi your project is very best! I have one problem. Thickness of tape inset is very small. Real thickness components tape approx. 0,6 mm! Sliding is so tight. Sixagonal shaft too very big. Where are is a change it? Thank you

      Thanks! Only the small and fast to print Tape Inset needs to be reprinted to adapt a different tape. See at 4:40 in the video where the tape is inserted. In OpenSCAD use the Customizer (right side pane) and there the Tape Specification section to adjust tape thickness etc. "Sixagonal shaft"? I don't understand.
