I had Hyperthyroidism and it took me 2 years to really see a major improvement. I would do light massages around my eyes, drank ashwaghanda tea, turmeric tea, a probiotic every morning, exercised 4 times a week (jog and dance workout with light weights) ate more green veg, drank bottled water, prayed and did things that boosted my mood because hyperthyroidism can make you feel very irritable. Don’t give up on yourself, you will get better, you will see the beauty that was always there, you will rise above this with a testimony ❤

I honestly really need to hear something like this. Because of my Hyperthyroidism I got low self-esteem really bad because my face have gotten skinnier. I just don’t feel good about myself anymore. And it’s like no one understands

The same! I changed my lifestyle. I always have been active, usually 2-3 times a week. Now I am active every day. I walk almost every day and if I am not, then I go to the gym or swim. I don't drink anything with caffeine and I try to avoid as much as I can the processed food. I have been not taking any medication for over 2 years now! My results are stabile. Graves disease is in remission and hopefully it stays that way. The only memory of it are my eyes, which never got back where they were before.

I have Graves and I love what it's done to my lower face. It was puffy and now i have my high cheek bones and heart shaped lines back. I'm loosing weight and am taking Strophanthus which is saving my heart. I'm on a strict, anti-inflamatory diet and am actually embracing it even though it's not easy. It gave me my energy back. So glad I'm going the diet path and not the cut it out, poison it, or nuke it route. I'm not going to harm my thyroid because it's not the culprit. The immune system is the underlying cause in Graves.

I have been diagnosed with Hashimotos and have really seen my face change dramatically. With no changes in weight, I saw the bottom portion of my face actually expanding and filling out. These changes have been really distressing to deal with (along woith the other thyroid symptoms). I am have been tested for Graves Disease and Cushings Disease a number of years ago but that has been ruled out, so I am assuming it is just from the Hashimotos. I had initially though that the facial puffiness was from just fluid retention, but after I tried to manage what I thought was edema from fluid retention, it did not really help so I am thinking now that my body is just starting to store fat in different areas then before due to the autoimmunity, and that the only way to deal with some of these changes is cosmetically.

From my understanding of it after talking to my doctor, unfortunately no because treatment addresses the excess thyroid activity but it is the graves antibodies themselves, not the thyroid that cause the changes to the face and skin and those remain in the body even after treatment

@Alexandra Pastirik: Unfortunately, the answer is no. According to many of doctors I visited for my hyperthyroidism caused by Grave's, bulging eyes and other symptoms such as loss of muscle strength in facial tissue are not reversible without plastic surgery. More so, removal of the thyroid can make it even worse. I have severe eye-bulging and slightly visible goiter, but my face is unrecognisable due to loss of the muscle strength, so my face has drooped and fat from the top of the checks is now in the lower cheeks. It look like I aged 20 years over course of one year.

I was just diagnosed with Graves disease yesterday. Starting 4 years ago I was having symptoms. Doctor ordered blood work. Two years ago a different doctor ordered blood test. Still showed normal. A couple months ago I got a new primary care Doctor Who actually listen to me and sent me to an endocrinologist. They did more tests which I believe the other doctors should have done because I was showing symptoms. I’m thankful this doctor finally listened to me as we know our own bodies in when something is wrong. Please insist on antibodies tests as well as TSi. I can’t believe how weak I have become. I can’t leave the house for more than an hour or two. Otherwise I am home resting. I have been living such a bad quality of life because of doctors not listening. I even stopped working. My anxiety got so bad, quality of sleep was bad, lost almost 80 pounds and was losing hair by the handful, had shaky hands and could not go outside very long this summer. I can’t wait to start my new medication and hopefully feel back to my old self. I wish the best of luck to you!

Hey Kyle. No it is not reversible. No diet on earth is going to get rid of the fat deposits behind your eyes. The only medication that is on the market as of beginning of this year for the bulging eyes is Tepezza. Once your thyroid levels are treated and back to normal with the medications such as Methimazol (for HYPERthyroid) you might get slight improvement and won't look like a deer caught in the headlights. There are a few surgeries that can treat bulging eyes, depending on the severity. Stay away from a food that contains high levels of iodine, it helps in a long run. Good luck.

@Sun if gluten and dairy were the culprits then most people in the world would have thyroid issues. The difference between those who eat gluten/dairy and develop thyroid issues and those who don't develop it is chronic stress and burned out adrenals. Its only when the autoimmune has been triggered that's when gluten, dairy, grains, eggs, soy, corn, certain nuts and seeds become a severe problem when consumed.
