The American version of the show has the same attitude. It's just how the show is. Edit: Now that I watched the video, the British version is way more savage than the US version... the US version has some jokes at the expense of the contestants, but there's an audience and a laugh track... but the British version's "jokes" don't feel like jokes they just feel like insults, and the contestants don't seem bothered by the host's incredibly passive aggressiveness.
